Possible Total loss. Need opinions

Some one ran a red light and hit my wife while she was driving her 2017 Z. Im thinking its a total loss. what do you guys think? The front end is pretty smashed. the Passenger window looks to be out of alignment so it may indicate the chassis is pretty crooked.

Sorry to hear about what happened and hope the most important thing is your wife's Okay!

It looks like it maybe a total loss. :ugh2:

TerribleONE 03-23-2017 10:05 AM

Glad your wife is ok. Cars are replaceable people aren't.

I agree with trips looks like a total loss.

danegrey 03-23-2017 10:08 AM

Glad she is ok,
yea another Z bits the dust

Krazzzz 03-23-2017 10:58 AM

Dammit. Just hope the wife is ok. Effing idiots running lights.

Ghostvette 03-23-2017 11:09 AM

I'd say you probably are looking at a new car. Another stupid SUV/pickup truck driver.

OldGuyFla 03-23-2017 11:09 AM

Hope all is o.k. I would push for a total loss, shouldn't have to repair a new car like that. It just isn't the same after a crash that big.

Triggerhapy 03-23-2017 11:21 AM

Thank you guys for your concerns. My wife is bruised and sore and you're right, she priceless compared to the car. The airbag deployed and seatbelt retractor did their job. im hoping for a total loss as I'm fully covered and have the gap coverage too.

Excellent. I've crashed a few timea really tough racing karts and just have her take it easy. It'll be a few days of soreness.

Good luck with the z as well.

Nixin 03-23-2017 01:41 PM

Don't worry too much about the Z, that's what insurance is for. As long as your wife is OK, that's the most important thing. As for the SUV driver, pass the baseball bat.

Duc_Z09 03-23-2017 02:06 PM

That one's binned for sure. Hope the wife is OK.

Triggerhapy 03-23-2017 02:09 PM

Sucks. We only put 8000 on the odometer. Never even got a chance to really dog it out.

HulaGirl 03-23-2017 05:09 PM

Sorry. Those pics are painful to view. I'll be interested in what your insurance says.

alcheng 03-23-2017 06:44 PM

gosh.. glad your wife is ok, but better go to a family doctor to have it fully checked couple days later since that's when those pains start surfacing.

I'm pretty sure the insurance will write it off, too much a hassle for repairing stuffs like that.

Good luck man!

kenchan 03-23-2017 06:48 PM

Ouch. :(

Hope ur wife recovers soon.

nis350 03-23-2017 11:07 PM

glad to hear that she is ok. you don't want that car back.

Sucks man, glad your wife is fine. No way I would settle for fixing it. On the bright side maybe you can upgrade to the Nismo with the settlement? Good Luck OP

Fuzzzy 03-24-2017 12:34 PM

My opinion is that your wife is a lucky woman. Glad she is ok.

Good luck dealing with the Z aspects and aftermath!

Triggerhapy 03-24-2017 05:21 PM

Yeah, I was debating on getting the nismo but I'd be glad just to get the same exact car but in white. Just anxious waiting on insurance to see the outcome.

I'm glad your wife is ok.

It does suck having to wait for the insurance though. When my Mustang caught on fire it took 3 weeks to get a decision from the insurance company.

Usually when the airbag deploys, it's totaled. Does the opposite party have good coverage?

Glad she isn't hurt bad.

37zeroZ 03-24-2017 08:57 PM

Hopefully for your sake they total it, but I'm leaning they will not.

ZeeingAround 03-26-2017 09:46 AM

Please make sure you keep asking your wife questions on anything abnormal. Take no chances. sorry to hear about your car. I wonder if the police can determine if the other driver was texting/talking on phone. Just curious.

kynseon 03-28-2017 10:02 AM

Glad your wife is okay. You could probably get a brand new Z if is a loss.

Rocxtar 03-28-2017 11:56 AM

That will buff out!

On a serious note, glad everyone is ok.

280z/300zx 03-28-2017 12:11 PM

I'm not an expert but unless the frame is bent I wouldn't say it's 100% a total loss. You have a 2017 which means the insurance company is going to be looking at a higher valued car than say if this was a 2009 370z. It's a myth to think that when airbags deploy that insurance companies won't fix the car, because they will. I would strongly urge you reach out to your insurance adjuster and push for a total loss.

My 2010 NISMO was involved in a front end collision that looked similar in damage to yours, except mine was all front end damage. I thought for sure it was totaled. Then they said no they thought it was fixable due to cost of replacement for the car vs. damages to the car. I fought with them for weeks explaining it would never be right again. I lost the fight and they "fixed" the car. It took 6 months to "fix" it. In the end the car had to be returned 3 different times. The second time the shift knob came off while pulling out of the parking lot. Why the shift knob was even messed with still remains a mystery as it was not damaged initially. But I showed them the tool marks that clearly indicated someone had tampered with it. The third and final time the car lost power, fuel, brakes, etc while driving 45mph. Luckily I was able to pull the car over without incident. The same week I got it back after that I took it to CarMax and sold it.

Looking at your car, and again I'm not a professional, I'd say you have less than 20k in damages to the car. So unless there is major engine damage unseen or frame damage that isn't in the picture they may try to say the damages don't exceed what is required to total the car. Good luck and fight them at all costs to total it out.

Fren_Z 03-28-2017 03:06 PM

Glad she's ok. Sorry for the loss.

Raeshlavik 03-28-2017 07:05 PM

Very happy to hear your wife is okay! (whew!) And yeah, you'll never get it back to 'new' from something like that.

I'm also continually impressed by how well the Zed does in an accident; looks like the car did exactly as was intended and the damage never made it past the a-pillar.

And it clearly gave as well as it took...

ZAtlanta_OG 03-28-2017 07:37 PM

Similar to my accident, and they totaled mine. Glad everyone is ok.

You should have got a lawyer, if you weren't comfortable with having the car repaired it would be very easy to total it.

Not sure what insurance you have but my s2000 was about to get repaired from a rear side impact [which wasnt enough to total it], I made one phone call and told them I didn't feel safe with the car being repaired, no questions asked, totaled the car wrote me a check.

Triggerhapy 03-30-2017 07:35 PM

The car was deemed total loss. The chassis is tweaked pretty good, enough to move the RH door support(door is out of alignment). The strut bar is buckled.

It was the best they could have done. Now time for a white Nismo

Are they offering you a fair settlement?

I guess my "yer not from 'round 'ere, aintchya..." is showing. Haha!

I grew up abroad, and pretty much the rest of the planet pronounces "Z" as 'zed' versus 'zee', so I occasionally slip up. :icon17:

Triggerhapy 04-07-2017 03:53 PM

I got my replacement 370z sport. Pretty much the same as I had before but with the mudflaps and light up sill plates.

Side note: damages were 28k in repairs quoted by the body shop.

Magic Bus 04-07-2017 04:29 PM

Good to hear Trigger, now go out and enjoy again!

JARblue 04-07-2017 04:37 PM

Congrats on the new ride :pics:
