Nissan screwed up on this. I understand cost savings and complexity of machines and fabrication, but really?

$50K car shouldn't be spared fine details specially if it has NISMO attached to it.

I'm refereeing to the switch blanks that come with the NISMO because we don't have heated seats or convertible.

So, a light bulb came into my head and I designed something for the 3D printing guys to come up with.

The Cup holder and blank assembly pop off as an assembly. NO TOOLS required.

The Switch blank is attached by 4 screws. Off it comes and now you have a square hole.

Problem is, it's not deep enough but it will hold an Iphone5, IPOD or whatever you want immediate access to.

Here are the pics:

I like the idea, I may try to model something up and 3D print something to fit in there. I'm not the best designer, but I can probably get something to fit

kenchan 01-29-2017 01:21 PM

Looks like a good seat for my badtz maru plush.

Right now he looks like he's dipping in a hot springs in da cup holder..

rey127 01-29-2017 01:50 PM

I wouldn't mind that. Currently my phone stays on my lap.

I have to try it with Iphone7 and higher. Like I said, It will hold the phone but it's not deep enough, so bigger phones may be in way of shifting. Better than the lap. ;)

jaedub 01-29-2017 02:52 PM

I think its a perfect spot for coins. All my coins are in the cup holder.

Yeah I stuck my i7 in the cupholder yesterday standing up and it still gets in the way more than I'd like.

Ditto

Tick64 01-29-2017 03:01 PM

Great idea! Always looking for more storage space.

dctoe 01-29-2017 03:52 PM

Zooms, what did you use to fill the hole? This is a great idea I've been wanting to do something like this for sometime.

I made a quick and dirty design that will fit in that spot, please don't judge.

It does require a little bit of fitting to be able to get the cup holder all the way down, but if you do it correctly it requires no glue

Whenever my wife gets home I'll get her to snap a picture of my iphone 6s w/ a case sitting in the cubby.

ChaseZ 01-29-2017 05:20 PM

Nice! I really need to get me one of these 3D printers to play with

JTM88 01-29-2017 05:56 PM

Here are a couple of pics with the phone sitting in it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...155c5152f5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2538ee3381.jpg

The picture makes the scratch look way worse than it is. i'll probably take it off again to tweak the design, right now the cupholder piece is just shy of sitting flush, and when I do that I'll fix it.

I was about to ask if the phone now gets in the way of shifting but I see you're running the same knob as me.

Great idea and execution, and it really should've come like this for non-touring models.

My arm brushes it a little bit in 5th and 6th but not enough to affect shifting. I think it got in the way more sitting in the cup holder.

Xhilr8n! 01-29-2017 08:57 PM

Nice idea. I mount my phone up on the vent by the headunit but a little storage space there could be useful for sure.

eliboy 01-30-2017 04:40 PM

That looks great! May I add to it? Can one of you add 3 USB ports? We can attached USB hub inside and use it to charge the phone and connect it to a head unit if you have one that supports it.

I was thinking of a Hardwired Docking station! Just drop-in phone to charge and play, cordless. :tiphat:

I'm not sure what you are asking?

The hole stays open, like pictures show.

It's a custom made slot/cup from plastic, using 3D printer. Hope that helps?

I missed that part about the 3D printer. Thanks!

This would be awesome... I wonder if my iPhone 7 plus would fit... It seems that the regular iPhone is tight the way it is.

The opening is 74mm if I remember correctly, and the 7 plus is 77mm wide

Dang... I just looked it up, 77.9 to be exact. 4mm is a lot.... maybe it wouldn't look too bad diagonally in the opening???

I'll double check the dimensions when I get home

The width is 77.2 mm barely too small. You could probably put it in at an angle

It would probably face you (driver) better at an angle.

JARblue 01-31-2017 06:32 PM

Personally, I keep my phone in my pocket while I'm driving.

But I like the creativity, OP

Yes it would fit on an angle and might be even better with a smug fit.

I bet it would work, it would just sit up higher

Nithmo 02-03-2017 01:51 PM

I will forsure take one of these!!!

Do you know if it can hold a Galaxy S6 with a thin case?

Nithmo 02-03-2017 02:37 PM

Actually I don't even care if it can hold a phone. It's still ten times more functional than the ugly block out plate. If anyone is selling these, PLEASE PM me!

So a lot of people want these on the facebook groups and as much as I'd love to be able to make and sell these I don't have the time, capability, nor the desire to do this. However I am giving away the files for free, so if you have a 3d printer or have access to one you can make one for yourself. If you don't I attached a link to a website that you can use to have it printed.

I'll put the link to the files, and to a place where you can have it printed. I did a quick look and you should be able to get it printed in ABS for about $50.

Here is the file 370z Blank Button delete by JTM88 - Thingiverse
Here is the site where you can order prints https://www.3dhubs.com/
