What's your daily driver and how does it compare to your Z?

Mine is a 2011 Mazda3 touring, 48k miles. Bought it brand new and have owned it for 5 years now. It's a decent little car and I like the reliability and low cost of maintenance. It's only 140hp so compared to my Z it's obviously very underwhelming but I'm still happy that I have it and it gets me from point a to b. Just curious what some of the other members have as their dd and how it compares to their Z.

DeliriousClam 10-01-2016 06:22 PM

Usually my daily is the 370 unless either:
A: it's snowing
B: I really don't feel like taking it for whatever reason.

In either case, it's a 1998 4-banger Camry that's slower than terri schiavo

roadie 10-01-2016 07:06 PM

2009 Honda Ridgeline RTS. Obviously no comparison, but I didn't buy the Z to be practical, just a blast to drive.

My daily was a 2000 accord but at around 215k oil leaks got annoying so I gave it to my brother. Got a 2014 used Nissan sentra with 9k. Slow as crap but blends in with traffic, reliable, $16 to fill up and great on gas so I can't complain.

2015 Sentra, got it new. Gets me to and from work just fine, gets great gas mileage, but I love the weekends when I can take out the Z

My DD is a salvage title Grand Cherokee WJ that I originally got as a winter beater. It was a total piece of sh*t when I got it but it's respectable now.

Custom paint, bedliner, cut wheel wells, 4" Rough Country long arm lift, 32" tires, auxiliary LEDs, 3.73, 0.030 overbore, 505 Performance stage II head, Comp cam, Rugged Ridge header, CAI, Racetech 9.5:1, 2.5" pipe, Flowmaster 40.

More to come: bigger throttle body, upgraded injectors, roof-mount light bar, roof rack for a spare wheel, rock sliders, front push bar, mount for my 4' jack, rear swing gate for 2nd spare wheel and 5gal can of gas.

kenchan 10-01-2016 10:29 PM

Modded GTI. Thing is a rocket and blast to drive actually.

ayrton88 10-02-2016 07:38 AM

The Z is pretty much my DD for 3 months of the year. I have an old Avalon that is my winter car and what I drive when I have to leave my car on the street in Wrigleyville. That neighborhood is only getting crazier...go Cubs!

night blade 10-02-2016 07:53 AM

My DD is below, 5 years and around 78k later it's still going strong, does what it's supposed to do, that is haul around my family and groceries.

eyeteeguy 10-02-2016 10:13 AM

The Z is my daily driver. Maybe because I'm in Florida, there's no snow, and I work from home. Other than snow season, why wouldn't it be everyone's DD? Just asking... It's too fun not to drive all the time.

littlejuanito 10-02-2016 10:40 AM

I have two DD. The main one is a 2015 Q50 Premium and the other is my good ol' 2009 VW Jetta.

Living in PA, we get snow 4-5 months per year here so I keep it garaged during that time. During the spring & summer months, I'll still only drive it 2-3 times per week and it's mainly highway driving so I can enjoy it. I won't drive it to run around town shopping, running errands, etc.

Hopefully this is finally the year for the Cubs. We'll see.

The Z is my DD as well. I love it as a DD. Everything except the gas mileage. The cargo space doesn't bother me at all. It keeps me from having to run errands for everyone. Besides my muscle car, this is the only car that I haven't upgraded the radio. I very rarely turn it on. The exhaust is the only music I need. Probably why my gas mileage is suffering... :happydance::ughdance:

Lol same. Ever since I got my exhaust and intakes I don't need music while driving.

DD is a '16 F350 diesel crew dually, nothing much to compare

ErinBoBerin 10-02-2016 01:27 PM

My Z is my daily driver. Come to think of it, I've never had more than one car at a time.

Nithmo 10-02-2016 01:36 PM

2006 Acura TL A-Spec Dynamic.

The "dynamic" moniker wasn't actually well known, besides for in dealerships (and on the sales summary sheet). The Dynamic came with a 6MT, LSD, Brembo brakes on the front, amongst some other minor goodies over the auto version. I also have the OEM Navi in mine, and I've added some bolt ons over the years. Exhaust, intake, wheels, beefier rear swaybar, throttle body spacer, lowering springs, etc...

I'm an old school Honda guy, but these days Honda/Acura is nothing short of disappointing. The companies have become "vanilla" through and through, since 2008. Reliability sucks. Any trace of sportiness is gone. Just disappointing.

It's sad when Hyundai/Kia have surpassed Acura/Honda in every way imaginable.

Speaking of which, I also have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited w/ Navi, however, it's the wife's daily that I occasionally drive... I try to avoid it though, due to it being an auto. It has good power (274hp and 270lbft) and full torque is available from about 1600rpm. Besides the auto transmission, the suspension annoys me. It's just waaaaay too soft for my liking. The wife always gets queasy when I drive because the car nose dives when braking even moderately, or has annoying body roll in the corners (without pushing it much). I'm sure it could easily be addressed with some coilovers and swaybar, but I have no desire dumping money into that car. However, it has been reliable as hell for us. In 80000 miles, it's been to the dealership for one actual issue.

3.7 ZPA 10-02-2016 01:54 PM

2014 Subaru Legacy 2.5. It doesn't compare, but it's roomy, and is a tank in the snow.

old guy 10-02-2016 03:31 PM

I've got an old 06 maxima, good car, good ride, good in the snow, dependable, but can't compare to the Z in anything except, that it's a Nissan!

cv129 10-02-2016 06:19 PM

2010 G37s sedan - sits higher, quieter, softer, red leather, same VQ grunt. Plenty sporty. Sometimes I feel I no longer need the Z. Stupid thought goes away when I get into the Z. The G simply does not react to braking and steering input with the same urgency and directness as my Z (275/285 RE71, coilovers, SPL arms).

2010 Jetta TDI wagon - love low end the torque, DSG, big trunk, great stereo, turbo diesel! Not comparable to Z.

Rusty 10-02-2016 07:19 PM

My DD is a '08 Power Wagon. :D

This is actually what I'd love to have as my dd but I'd prefer not to have more than 1 car payment so I'll have to stick with my Mazda3 for now lol

Mark1010 10-02-2016 09:18 PM

Mine is a 2004 Civic VP, 116k miles. Bought it brand new. It's a decent little car and I like the reliability and low cost of maintenance. It's only 115 hp so compared to my Z it's obviously very underwhelming but I'm still happy that I have it and it gets me from point a to b.

I'm actually very fond of the Mazda3. I think the cabin design and layout has been quite timeless. My first experience was a rental, some 10 yrs ago, and I was throughly impressed, much more business like than others in the same class at that time, felt like a more expensive car.

Test drove a 2014 at a Mazda event, sadly things had gotten more expensive as the fully loaded one went for 30k+....but the interior once again felt and looked great, leather seats were supple (stiff sport seats in my G), interior somewhat put the G's interior to shame.

I do however love the synergy on having Z and G, easy for me to deal with maintenance and research.

Btalont 10-03-2016 02:48 PM

I bought a little Hyundai Veloster R Spec turbo in April. Did a few breathing tweaks. Fun little car with decent mileage. I jump from that into my NISMO and it's a different world..the Z is immediate in everything and stiff..love it! The Veloster is great for the commute, quiet, Sirius and a back seat for the grandboys.

Larso1 10-03-2016 07:36 PM

Been a Datsun/Nissan owner/advocate continuous since '77 with my first Datsun B210 fastback 4-spd. Then, an '83 Datsun 4x4 KCab pickup. Now my daily is a '97 Maxima 5-spd I bought in '00. Still drive it most days, still love it at 185k miles. 197-hp VQ engine same family as my '12 370z. Have no reason to change from Nissan...value and reliability.

P's_Z 10-03-2016 08:06 PM

Wifes '14 is250 fsport is our DD, its an auto, has leather seats and is pretty comfortable. Weekday traffic is awful here in PR, and since we work in the same place we carpool

No comparison with the Z, heavy, slow, takes a lot of time to pick up speed and only gets about 22 mpg :shakes head:

On the upside, respectable braking and front grill/bumper looks great to me :driving:

ChiefPat 10-03-2016 08:47 PM

My Z is my DD, I have my tow pig 2000 F250 for when the weather sucks. The Z is easier to park and more fun to drive, but it is nice to listen to the turbo spool in the truck.

srbrubak 10-04-2016 04:16 PM

I drive my Z as much as possible when the weather is nice. But, when it is crappy out, I drive a 2015 Mazda 3 S Touring hatchback with a 6 speed manual. When it gets real crappy out, mostly during the winter, I drive a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. There are a lot a lousy drivers here in Iowa who don't know how to drive in winter weather. If one of them hits me, I just as soon it be my van that takes it tough.

it's either the Z or this...

rcking91 10-04-2016 06:36 PM

My daily is a 2008 Sentra. Tanabe lowering springs, sticky BF goodrich tires, 5Zigen rims, Megan exhaust, 3 chassis bracing bars. she does me well. Just wish I would have gotten a SpecV instead of the CVT, but hey a new car in high school, I can't complain too much ha.
