Very very long time.

Mod goal is "poor man's" 996 GT3.

When I get a new car, it is always with the intention to keep it until it is no longer financially feasible to keep.
Somewhere along time I get it paid for, I always start to get an itch for a new one. So, I guess about 5 years?

Another old guy here. Bought it new 2.5 years ago. I plan to keep it as long as I am able to climb into it, which I hope will be as long as I'm able to drive. (I'm beginning to notice that other cars aren't much easier for me to get into than the Z.)

I'm afraid the biggest monkey-wrench in my plan is the obvious inability of other drivers to see a freaking red sports car. It is incredible how many cars have pulled out right in front of me in the past two years.

Driving mine till the wheels fall off... with everything I've done to it, it is like a totally new car that feels amazing to toss around. I got solid subframe bushing to install, then clutch+flywheel, new seats. After that a built v6 9K screamer of an engine replacement at some point. That's my plan, so I'm gonna own the car for... a long while.

The interior is simple and functional, the quality is great and there's nothing else I see that is like it, even in just being simple and minimalistic if you will; too much tech for me with the new cars. I also think that why there's so many examples of people taking older cars and rebuilding them top to bottom and keeping them simple and just straight up fun, since that's what it is all about...

I bought mine new in November, 2010. Had no idea how long I would keep it. I am getting older ( will be 70 this December ) and thinking about settling down. Their are a couple of cars I would like to buy, but I am undecided at this time. I would like a car that has some get up and go but can be used as a year round DD here in Iowa. For now I plan on keeping my Z until one of the car companies make something that really appeals to me and fits my budget.

Never considered a car you drive an asset. Unless you have all the z models with under 1000 on the odometer and have them as a collection. Might be worth.

That said for me I got my car in 2014 as a used 2012. Had about 15500 km on it. I said I will keep the car until the engine pops or the floor rusts out.

Currently sitting at 50000km

:iagree:This. I never buy anything that doesn't excite me enough to keep long-term.

I've only sold 1 vehicle in my life; my first motorcycle (2007 Harley-Davidson 1200 roadster). I ended up taking a $1500 hit after 5 years of riding it, so no real harm done. What I actually wanted/ended up with would have been unsuitable for a beginning rider anyway.

Must have been quite a change from an 80hp 500 pound cruiser to the Duc 848. I like your current choice sir ;)

It was quite a change, but that 80hp 500lb cruiser had its place. It taught me that 80hp on a 500lb bike could put me on par with a 320hp 4,000lb car. It also let me make a lot of beginner mistakes that the Duc would have bitten me in the @$$ for making... I don't regret the HD at all, and it was a great first bike. Slow, yes. Loud, holy **** yeah (my own fault for V&H exhaust). But at the end of the day it was exactly what I needed as a semi-newb rider. And I still maintain that if the Duc had been my first bike I would have gotten myself killed.

I got my new Z in July as a retirement gift to myself. I retired about 5 years early. So I haven't thought all the way through the end game yet. All I know is I wanted a fast car and I don't need a back seat...

Probably would've kept it until it died, so many many years.

Hope it doesn't take 20yrs.to get another one!
it all starts with a house, then kids, then college, then weddings ( if you have girls ) then if you can convince the wife to take a gob of money for a personal toy, you're back! GOOD Luck!

I always shoot for 3-4 years then I get bored.

Magic Bus 09-24-2016 12:46 PM

As a business owner who can deduct/depreciate his car for taxes. 5 years is the sweet spot for taking advantage of that and re-sale value. So if there is no new Z by next year, I'll be driving something else. But 5 years from then, if the new Z is hot, I'll be back in one.
