What was the first blemish on your Z?

Hey guys, a few weeks ago I put a small scrape on the sideskirt of my Z which was my first real blemish after 3 months of owning the car. Even though it's basically unoticeable, it bothered me to no end and got me thinking about other Z owners.

That leads me to the question, what was your first blemish on the Z and how did you deal with it?

Gunzero 11-27-2009 11:04 PM

2nd day i had it.. the e-brake disengaged and the car rolled to the curb and scraped bad. i couldn't eat my food after i saw the damage. i was really pissed and still am.

gleonard 11-28-2009 12:59 AM

I scraped my front bumpber on a chunk of asphalt I thought I had made enough room for while doing a slow u-turn. Big scratches! I don't have much of anything that stays nice for long, but I got it repaired like new. This car is one of the few "things" that I got to extra lengths to keep as nice and clean as possible.

dszombiex 11-28-2009 01:23 AM

Flying pebble to the hood on the freeway.

Sadly though it seems like all sorts of scrapes and chips are appearing on my Z outta nowhere lately. I think people keep scraping me in my work parking lot.

Its pretty lame I'm gonna have to start taking pics of my car daily and examining it after work and ask for camera footage if I keep gettin scraped up like this.

kdo2milger 11-28-2009 01:26 AM

having trucker tire tread fly up from under the car in front of you and smacking the front of your bumper hard enough to leave a nasty "fingerprint" that has not been buffed out to date...:shakes head:

Ouch, kdo and zombie. Those sound rough!

My first was bad because someone else did it. My audio installers put a scrape in my console finisher (silver ring around the shifter). They used some touch up paint to get rid of the chip, but the crack is still there. They said whenever I want, they would remove the whole thing and sand/paint at a body shop for me.

Last week I also got my first 3-4 small chips on the front Nismo bumper lip. I don't mind those much, but makes me want to get clear bra that much more.

SlikNik 11-28-2009 04:40 AM

Be very careful with the lighted kick plates. I dropped my 2nd cars keys the other morning onto it. It left a small dimple ( pen tip size )

damn that stuff is thin

radio5boro 11-28-2009 05:34 AM

3rd day i had my z, i parked it at a bowling alley parking lot. come out three hours later to 5 or so dents/scratches/paint chips on my front pass fender. all in one spot. looks like some person in their suv opened their door way too hard, and the bottom corner of the door just slammed right into the panel... i was soo pissed.

First 24 hours - two chips on the hood. Don't know if it wasn't there before I picked the car up, but the dealer took care of it.

After I got that resolved (took about a month total), less than 24 hours later, I got a small nick in the front fascia near the Nissan logo. I left that alone. I had a detailer come in and give my car teh shine job it should have had when I picked it up originally, and they also found another nick in the front fascia by the passenger fang. I don't remember when I noticed this but there's also some light etching where I didn't get the bug guts off quite fast enough. I'm sure those would come out with a polish though...

Since then I've not noticed much...until the other day I found a chip at the corner-edge of the hood where it meets the passenger headlight housing - about halfway up the headlight housing. The housing seemed to take a bit as well as there's a small nick in that too.

The car is a chip / nick magnet....in fact, they should rename the color "Magenetic (for Road Debris, bugs and poo) Black"

Same. I finally softened it to almost invisible with "agressive" detailing..

2000 grit sand paper
rubbing compound
hand glaze
polish
paint sealant
wax

took 20 minutes for 1" by 3" blemish

import111 11-28-2009 08:14 AM

Parked on a lot I don't know well. There was no parking beam to the left or right of where I was headed so I pulled in further than I normally do (Lowered on coilovers, 3.5 inch clearance up front). The 1 spot I parked in had a parking beam and scraped my front drivers side up pretty bad.

Got my 2nd bad one 2 nights ago pulling into Walgreens. Lip was too steep and I not only scraped the black front sport lip but it scraped the smaller lip behind it.

Ha! A Z sandwich front and rear hit at 200 miles and 5 days old.

How'd I handle it? Insurance and $7K in body work... Better than new now.

Needless to say, small stuff doesn't bother me now!

TonyBPD 11-28-2009 10:06 AM

Falling eggcorn on my passenger side fender. Tiny ding. YOu can only see it at certain angles. That tree is coming down in the next month though!

theDreamer 11-28-2009 10:13 AM

I have four rock chunks taken out of my bumper, found one a few months after I owned the car then two showed up another month later and then this last one. Not sure on my plan yet, as no one sees them unless you are close, but I know they are there.

There is no bfe at work with respect to parking. All the lots fill completely up and then some. To make things worse the parking spaces are narrow as hell, the Z barely fits in them.

I suppose I can go park out in the street somewhere but I see that as more of a liability because the parking lot at work at least has cameras and I can ask them to pull the footage if something major goes down.

What else can I do?

Mike 11-28-2009 03:53 PM

I had an off at little Talladega and scratched up the bottom bar of the front bumper, but fortunately, just on my clear bra. I did put a small dimple dent in it though.

kenchan 11-28-2009 05:22 PM

Dealer installed swirl marks were the first blemish I needed to polish out...

marcussoori 11-28-2009 06:23 PM

Well, nothing self-inflicted:

1) Someone stopped next to my car when it was parallel-parked on the side of the road, and intentionally opened their door into my passenger door, leaving a dent and scrape.

2) Someone keyed my left rear quarter panel.

3) Someone accidentally opened their door on my right rear quarter panel leaving a small dent.

4) I have rock chips on my bumper and hood (I'm waiting for it to get worse before buying a CF vented hood and painting it along with my front bumper in the GT-R look).

Grrr...

First blemish? Scuffing my driver's kickplate just about every time I drive it. It probably started with the test drive. I consider this minor. I was out waxing today and am now seeing lots of little chips on the front. This I'm more worried about. Gotta start backing off another car length on the freeway to keep the rash down.

Mergnthwirker 11-29-2009 10:40 AM

Found a good scratch on the passenger side rocker panel. Neither my wife or daughter will 'fess up to it tho...

kdo2milger 11-29-2009 10:58 AM

oh almost gorgot...

i ruined my front chin spoiler on a parking lot curve...it'll get replace soon...

ctzn 11-29-2009 04:47 PM

A couple weeks after I picked my car up, back in Jan I ran up an asphalt island downtown SF near my office and scraped the length of the underside of the driver side rocker panel. You can't see it unless you get on your back but it still bugs me knowing it's there. I will be getting it fixed though in coming weeks...

Also have some good curb rashing on my rear wheels, having that fixed this next week when they are powder coated...

pty370z 11-29-2009 04:58 PM

The first blemish was a neither small nor large rash on the border of the passenger side front wheel. It hurt like hell but can't do anything about it I guess. Any advice here other than replacing the stock sport wheel..??

Second blemish was an idiot on a motorcycle that put two small scratches on the passenger side door. No dent though. I think it can be repaired using the touch up paint.

Hhhhmmm, now that I read those two blemishes over again, I have the feeling my passenger side is cursed. lol!

Other than that, nada..

Zvengeance 11-29-2009 07:37 PM

on my nismo i got a scratch under the front side of the hood. that hard black protector that protects the bottom.

anyone know how to get rid of the scratch or any time of material to protect it from future scratches?

i got it going down a hill and i took my time since i knew it would hit the bottom.

I hear you on this one, I have a scrape on my side-skirt that's almost impossible to spot unless you are bent down looking for it, yet I'm contemplating getting a whole new skirt because of it.

vipor 11-30-2009 08:12 AM

just some rock chips... 2 on the hood, 1 in the windshield, and I even got one on the rear driver quarter wtf

KillerBee370 11-30-2009 04:49 PM

Scraped it underneath the first day (like I do every day I drive it) entering and leaving my driveway and I said "Good... now I don't have to be so OCD about it".

nicknick 11-30-2009 05:19 PM

To avoid getting your front hood and bumper chipped by the car in front of you on the freeway, you should be driving aapprox 50 to 70 metres behind.

jmlenz 12-01-2009 06:40 PM

the first blemish on the 370 came from the factory...those hideous side mirrors that they took from the Titan parts bin:bowrofl:

Mark5092 12-01-2009 08:05 PM

1st month and about 500mi took a rock off the windshield at about 70 mph. F'n shattered windshield. Sucked watching it get replaced! Have clear bra on complete front nose, 18" up the hood and on both mirrors, really does the job.

frost 12-01-2009 08:37 PM

semen

PapoZalsa 12-01-2009 09:15 PM

Is the 370Z a pain to work on them like the 350?
