Nissan dealer wants my 2013 370Z!

Dealers keep pestering me with postcards, email and phone calls the last 3-4 weeks saying they want my 2013 370Z in trade (or outright to buy it from me). What's the deal? I told them I wasn't interested until the new Z is released. What would be the point of trading a 2013 touring with sports and all options, plus HKS catback, Stillen G3 CAI and UpRev tune for a newer, identical, 370Z other than lower mileage and new warranty (which I already got an extended warranty on mine so it's good for 5 yr/60k miles already and I'm nearing 40k miles)?

I thought the auto industry is doing great the last several months, so why are they jonesing so hard for used cars (or to simply generate transactions from people upgrading/trading in)?

ROFL I didn't even notice that!

Dealer doesn't give two sh!ts about your car. They just want to sell the newer model to you. This is just a bait to get you into their stealership.

jcosta79 08-17-2016 12:15 PM

These are computer generated flyers sent out to try and lure people to buy a new car. Trust me, nobody at that dealership even knows what car you currently drive, nor do they care.

Well, their computer obviously knows what I'm driving; it's right there in their emails. In addition they offered to simply purchase my car whether I bought another car or not.

Because your information is all in their system.

It's a marketing gimmick, nothing more.

Blk_Z34 08-17-2016 09:36 PM

They just wanna sell you a new car. The deal is just lure you in. I get the exact same mail all the time.

Jimiz06 08-18-2016 01:02 AM

Its basically junk mail. I still get those for my 06 350z which i dont own anymore.

The computer knows that you purchased a particular car somewhere along the way. It does not know if you actually drive that car or still own it. I get similar mailings for cars I haven't owned in five or more years.

Sure, they'll purchase your car. For $25K? ROFLMAO The price they are mentioning is full retail (what they would try to sell it for) - hard to stay in business if you're not making a profit.

As others have mentioned, this is just a come-on to get you in the showroom. Ie, circular file material.

But there's no harm in asking and you may learn a valuable lesson about dealerships. Go ahead and see what they will offer for your car. My bet is that you will be sorely disappointed.

ZeroZeta 08-18-2016 01:52 AM

"it's a trap!"

mults 08-18-2016 06:36 AM

Sounds like the same scheme to get you to buy an extended warranty on your brand new vehicle even when it still has 3 years of warranty left. I get these in the mail every few months, even for vehicles I don't own any more.

kenchan 08-18-2016 07:04 AM

u know wat it is though. dealers just getting back at the dumbarse general public for all da BS dey endure on a daily basis.

i mean u got taffyapples, and all dat other shitt out dere dey are forced to answer to.

madeinjapan 08-18-2016 07:55 AM

I get them all the time. Sometime I get offered book value. I think the demand is high in your area to get them in lots. But they are just trying to make your Loan longer.

My offers go straight in the trash

enkei2k 08-18-2016 09:33 PM

as someone who works in the auto industry in sales, these emails are 95% of the time, a waste of time and energy. However, there are certain instances where the customer may want out of their current car (high interest rate, just don't like it, etc) where it kind of works in their favor. If their previous car had a ridiculous interest rate due to bad credit, they can trade that in and get a newer car at a lower rate if they made their payments on time.

I've had many customers where we send out those emails and they did indeed get into a newer car at a slightly higher (less than $10 a month more) payment. Keep in mind, if you do trade in your car, you also get the tax savings as well so sometimes it is in your best interest to trade it in while your car is still worth something.

PS - KBB is a worthless tool to check current car prices because it doesn't factor in CarFax reports and other things.

I'm in my car at 3.5% interest. I think I posted this in another thread but the dealer I bought my car from kept sending me these and I eventually sent one back to them with a post-it note on it with "**** off" written in all caps

Cyber370 08-19-2016 04:59 AM

Yeah...........dealers do this all the time. My wife got one for her 2010 Kia Forte Koup for heavens sake! Dealers just want to get you into the showroom. They don't care about what car you have as trade. You can be sure that they will lowball you once they see you're interested in getting something new. Believe me I know. My brother was sales director at both an Acura and Audi dealership.

hey dere enkei - u still at it at the dealership, huh? cool  much better dan the terrorist manager biotch at the previous company?

kenchan 08-19-2016 07:03 AM

yep, carfax is kinda worthless too cause accidents dont show up very quickly.. if my car ever got into an accident, the day it comes out of the shop it will go straight to carmax or dealer trade.

I haven't checked KBB for my car recently, but sticker on it was 46K so 25K doesn't seem out of the bounds of reality.

Then what are you waiting for? Get thee to the dealer posthaste.

MacCool 08-20-2016 08:50 AM

I got one of those for the 2011 Z I was leasing. I was skeptical but called them on it - a Nissan dealer 90 miles away. Long story short, they wanted my car bad enough that they bought out the rest of the lease (6 months early), gave me a smoking deal on a 2014 Z, picked it up in Chicago, delivered the new car to my house on a flatbed, and hauled the 2011 away (snowstorm rendering a Z undriveable). I never even set foot in the dealership. It was like ordering a pizza.

I told them I wasn't interested until the new Z released (think I said that earlier). What does that have to do with whether the car is worth that or not (which is what I was replying to)? He was trying to make it sound like my car isn't worth that, but it very likely is worth that and more. KBB.com shows that a dealer would ask between 26K and 29K for it so yeah, that looks right that they'd offer 25K for it.
