I'm still wondering why the salesperson asked if I wanted to sit in one while they ran my information for a Z. I didn't think it was anything that special, honestly.

The two dealers that I usually visit for service didn't have their GT-Rs roped off or anything.

Same with Corvette Z06..they don't want people driving them for fun to feel the 500 HP and walk away...then people who want them dont want them with miles, and they get stuck.

That said, I have also noticed that car dealers tend to rope off their high end cars, whatever they are. I remember when the S2000's landed, and the Honda dealers were very anal about a $32k car. No test drives, and so on. It was a bit ridiculous.

There's a Porsche/Audi dealer in DF/W that I visited, pretty much just to get a look at an R8. The Audi guys had that mentality. Then I went to the Porsche show room and 20 minutes later I was driving a turbo 997. I doubt they'd let me sit in, much less drive, a Carrera GT. Attitude is relative to the top of the line.

There's a huge difference in the attitude of salesmen at high-end lots. It's not very surprising that the Nissan dealers are uptight about the GT-R. They've got a car with a great deal of mystique and it's probably natural that they treat their average customers as the unworthy heathans.

Which Porsche/Audi dealership? Is it the one in Plano, if so, my parents own the Shell right next door, and im really good friends with the owner. I see the R8s come to the gas station all the time!

Yes, that's the one. The salesman reminded me of a California surfer dude, stuck in the 70's.. cool guy.

FWIW, I see more R8's in Dallas than 370Z's.

they actually didn't let me drive the NISMO before i bought it. The salesman did take me out in a touring 370 (im pretty sure it wasn't the sport, so without SRM, though i could be wrong. All i got out of him was that the NISMO would be a "meaner" version of the car i was testing.

I can only imagine trying to test drive a GT-R, serious or not, when they were so protective of the Nismo.

I can understand the no test drive unless you are serious deal, but let's be honest.. it's not a ferrari.

Yes, so what does "its not a ferrari" mean? Does a car have to be a certain price before people acknowledge it as an exotic and go "oh ah".
the GTR is a great car with the performance and quality to match and better some exotics. It really annoys me when people judge cars by badges and big buck marketing campaigns.

Well.. yes and no. Yes, in that the more expensive a car the less we see of it - a la "exotic." A 2010 GTR base price is $80,790. What a fantastic price.

And no... in that high end SUV's fetch $80k+ these days.

BMW X6 M - $88,900
Porsche Panamera S - $89,800
Land Rover Range Rover HSE - $78,425

You mean all those "from A to Z" commercials I've been seeing lately are privately funded!? :icon23:

When purchasing my Z, I asked the salesperson about it, and he said that the dealership would run a credit check and insure that you actually have the funds in your account before they would consider it. Same thing when I was considering the STI, they were very reluctant, and said they would be forced to run a credit check before they could allow me to test drive.

when i went to the dealer here in town awhile back they had one that they were washing for a customer that was buying it, that customer has since backed out and the last time i was up there a few weeks ago it was still there...
in the second pic in the bucket you can see the brush they used :shakes head:
