That said, I have also noticed that car dealers tend to rope off their high end cars, whatever they are. I remember when the S2000's landed, and the Honda dealers were very anal about a $32k car. No test drives, and so on. It was a bit ridiculous.

There's a Porsche/Audi dealer in DF/W that I visited, pretty much just to get a look at an R8. The Audi guys had that mentality. Then I went to the Porsche show room and 20 minutes later I was driving a turbo 997. I doubt they'd let me sit in, much less drive, a Carrera GT. Attitude is relative to the top of the line.

There's a huge difference in the attitude of salesmen at high-end lots. It's not very surprising that the Nissan dealers are uptight about the GT-R. They've got a car with a great deal of mystique and it's probably natural that they treat their average customers as the unworthy heathans.
Which Porsche/Audi dealership? Is it the one in Plano, if so, my parents own the Shell right next door, and im really good friends with the owner. I see the R8s come to the gas station all the time!

Yes, that's the one. The salesman reminded me of a California surfer dude, stuck in the 70's.. cool guy.

FWIW, I see more R8's in Dallas than 370Z's.

The GT-R may look nice, but is sure is nothing special, especially when it comes to guys who know how to build muscle cars right.

You do realize the gtr RAPES the z06 on every single track, in addition to the dragstrip too. that is despite the weight advantage the z06 has. You do realize the gtr is faster than supercars 2-3 times its price, and that it has defeated cars like porsche 911 turbo, gt3, gt2, ferrari f430, lamborghini gallardo, murcielago, mercedes sl65 amg, bmw m3, m6, etc....

besides the fact that we can do the best numbers in a gtr due to its setup. None of us would come anywhere near the Z06 numbers, being as we're not professional drivers. the only limits you'll find with a GTR are what you have the balls to do, you'll be spinning out all day in a Z06!

Just visited my dealer. My sales guy said that the gt-r buyers come in with cash and drive out (the dealers has financed *one* gt-r sale). That's it. Basically, if you ask for a test drive, you're not serious. Now, you can make the argument that anybody paying that kind of money would want to make sure that individual car's not a dog, but point is they have the money and intent before they ever get behind the wheel.

I can understand the no test drive unless you are serious deal, but let's be honest.. it's not a ferrari.
Yes, so what does "its not a ferrari" mean? Does a car have to be a certain price before people acknowledge it as an exotic and go "oh ah".
the GTR is a great car with the performance and quality to match and better some exotics. It really annoys me when people judge cars by badges and big buck marketing campaigns.

Well.. yes and no. Yes, in that the more expensive a car the less we see of it - a la "exotic." A 2010 GTR base price is $80,790. What a fantastic price.

And no... in that high end SUV's fetch $80k+ these days.

BMW X6 M - $88,900
Porsche Panamera S - $89,800
Land Rover Range Rover HSE - $78,425

You mean all those "from A to Z" commercials I've been seeing lately are privately funded!?

My dealer salesman asked me if I wanted to try a GTR on a test-drive on a visit to the dealereship a while back. (I had already had my 370 for a few months when this happened.) I really wanted to, but declined. Here's my reason....

If you were the purchaser of the GTR that had been test drove, wouldn't you have serious concerns about how the miles (that had accumulated on the car) had been driven? I know that when I test drive a performance car, I try and see just what it's capable of. I did it with the two 370's that I test drove (read: I drove the snot out of them). So, judging by just my experience test driving the car, I sure wouldn't want one that had been agressively driven.

(But, I still want to try one. Just try not to buy the one that I test drove )

They must've been really desperate for sales. That or the car was used, or a dud. No self respecting dealership will let people go for a joy ride in their flagship supercar. On the other hand, you wouldn't happen to have the dealer's address, would you?

Yes, the car was new (they had three of them). The dealership was Sherwood Nissan.

just find a friend with a car costing 80K+ and walk in, grab a sales guy..tell him you want to trade that in for the GT-R but you want to test drive it first. i think it might work..they'll see you're already in the price range of the gt-r

after the test drive..just tell em u didnt like it and out you go.

I honestly think what they are doing to protect the super car in the show room is right because seriously, why would they want people racking up miles on the super car when you're not serious about buying it? It's a flagship GT-R which makes the car special. I think there are others that are more "exotic" or expensive, but I know the GT-R is special and I know I won't be able to afford one so I don't even want to test drive one no matter how much I WANT to test drive it, I want to make the actual OWNER of that car feel like the car is brand new off the show room.

i had to buy my gtr blind--no test drive, nothing. i alraedy knew everything about the car (more than any of the salesmen), so i was sure this was the car. its funny becuase i had been able to drive every car under the sun (f430, gt3rs, turbo, maserati, gallardo, and r8). they just handed me the keys and expected it back by tomorrow...with the gtr, they looked at me like some kinda punk...damn nissan. it was behind the velvet rope with do not touch signs on it. overall had a crappy experience at teh dealership, but whatever...Nissan is just REALLY proud of this car. thats y ur "not allowed" to mod the gtr lol. its a great car tho. and modding is the easiest thing in the world. picked up 100whp with just a midpipe and a tune.
