Default VIN coming up as a 2010 350Z?!

Hello all,

Just went online to Nissan Recalls | Nissan USA to check if my 2010 370Z Touring Sport built on 06/2010 was eligible for the steering lock recall, turns out it was not eligible. Then I realized my car came up as a 2010 350Z Touring (see attached).. WTF?

1. Has your 370Z registered as a 350Z?
2. Is Touring Sport not a model? Only Touring with Sport Package?
3. Anyone else with a 2010 built around 06/2010 get your steering lock fixed prematurely under recall?

Kind of worried that uneducated dealership staff will offer trade-in appraisals based on me having a 350 instead of 370.

Thanks!

That seems to be a simple typo.

I agree with Trips: appears to be just a typo. And who cares what Nissan calls it as long as it's correct on the paperwork (title, registration, &c)?

It's a glitch in Nissan's database/software. I filled out something for Nissan last week that required me to input my VIN. My 2014 came back listed as a 350 with no way for me to edit.

See, even Nissan can't tell the difference between a 350z and a 370z. That 200cc displacement bump and weight savings are all smoke and mirrors; pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

On a more serious note, if the last letter of your VIN is an M, then it's a 370Z. Nissan manufactured its 350Zs in Oppama/Tochigi (T), but manufactures all model years of the GT-R and 370Z in a factory dedicated to performance vehicles in Tochigi (M).

Incorrect. 350Z production shifted from Oppama to Tochigi midway through the '04 model year IIRC. '03s will have T's as the 11th digit in their VIN as will earlier '04s however later '04s through '08s will all have an "M" as the 11th digit in their VIN.

The most accurate way to determine whether or not a Z is a 350 or a 370 via its VIN is with the 6th digit as the 5th and 6th digits indicate the chassis code. A 350Z's 5th and 6th digits will read Z3 for Z33 whereas a 370Z will read Z4 for Z34.

There's that too, but Z1 and Z2 (300zx) already collide with new Nissan models (Cube/Murano). If they keep that up, then you'll need to know both the model and where it was manufactured to figure out what it is Dunno why their website is having a hard time decoding this though, z3 and z4 are still only used by the z33 and z34 - it's probably just a typo.

I thought they kept the plant code T for all z33s though. Admittedly I only owned a 2003.

Okay, seems like I'm just worrying for no reason. I bet a good lawyer could get a 370z driver off the hook for a ticket by saying that the cop issued a ticket for a 370z, when according to the vin its a 350z! I'm gonna pull that card some day for sure.

Not a good lawyer, just a shady one. Though I guess those two things go hand in hand?

Check CarFax.com and enter your VIN. Likely an issue on Nissan's part.

I have the same thing for my 09 Z. When I bought my vehicle, I had to sign a form informing me that my vehicle is recall-free. After reading the documents when I got home, I realized that the form listed my vehicle has an 09 350Z, rather than a 370Z. When I emailed the dealer, they said they typed the VIN and the make/model autopopulated. But everything else reflects 370Z.
