Do 6 speed manuals have Overdrive? Insurance problems

Posted this in the Nismo thread but wanted to post here also Incase any of you have any answers.

So my insurance company Allstate is evaluating my 2010 Nismo for total loss and compared it to other 2010 and 2011 370 Nismos for a payoff value. Two of the four comparable vehicles 2010-2011 Nismos they list as having overdrive but mine is listed as not having his option. We all know they are identical cars so this is impossible if they are listing the other two comparable vehicles as having overdrive. The evaluation company Allstate uses is CCC.

My question is does anyone have any documentation or proof of the Nismo having overdrive. The total loss adjuster needs me to prove I have overdrive even though CCC has listed two of its exact comparable Nismos having it...

Help please! Thanks in advance.

You should go to the dealer and get something in writing...also you people need to stop crashing your Zs wtf, thats like 3rd one this week.

Manuals don't have overdrive, we have 6th gears.

MagmaRed370z 06-30-2016 11:41 AM

No they don't. Not even the 7AT have OD.

SouthArk370Z 06-30-2016 11:42 AM

The owner's manual, sales brochures, FSM, &c will have transmission gear ratios. Nearly all manual transmissions nowadays have at least one OD gear. In the 6MT, 6th gear is OD. 0.79:1, if my source was correct.

I don't think any Nismo has a separate OD unit, just a high gear in trans.

NismoZ370 06-30-2016 11:53 AM

All I need is something official that says overdrive and Nismo 6th gear in the same sentence. I'm not home so I have no paperwork for my car. TDY in VA.

^ what Southark says

OD is "an automotive transmission gear that transmits to the drive shaft a speed greater than engine speed". For 6MT box, 6th gear is the OD.

Your adjuster is an idiot.

cooltoy 06-30-2016 12:02 PM

All you have to tell them is that all Nismos are the same. If they have one that says it's has overdrive, then they should mark yours the same (no matter if it's true or not). Yours is no different then the others. There were variations of the Nismo.

NismoZ370 06-30-2016 12:04 PM

I have mentioned this several times. She is placing the burden of proof on me...

cooltoy 06-30-2016 12:10 PM

I guess you could technically call the sixth gear overdrive.

Ask them what proof the other Nismos provided.

I told her to contact CCC and find out how they know the other nismos have overdrive

Well I guess now we know why this "overdrive" thing is an issue lol.

I just searched through the PDF file of 2010 owner's manual, and a 2013 sales brochure, used keyword "Overdrive", "Over Drive", "OD", no result. Used keyword "Gear" to see if I come across anything resembling OD, I saw none.

Show her a 2010 brochure and owner's manual and that it makes no mention of OD gear, that an "OD" NOT an add-on option on any 370z, that the mistake is on her end and burden of proof is on her (easier said than done, I know).

Sorry for the hassle.

:iagree:And how.

Simplest fix. Tell that broad to pack sand and find someone else in that department who has the slightest bit of a clue on cars to take over your claim.

NismoZ370 06-30-2016 03:03 PM

If they remove overdrive from the comparable vehicles will that bring the value of mine down, since they're value will also drop?

Print out this thread, write that across the first page, and hand it to her.

ChaseZ 06-30-2016 04:17 PM

Tell her you want to speak her manager.

JARblue 06-30-2016 04:18 PM

I would be calling my insurance agent and explaining to them that the adjuster is a fuckin moron. Let them deal with this kind of $hit; that's why you pay them. And if they feel differently, I'd dump them as soon as you get this claim taken care of.

kenchan 06-30-2016 07:27 PM

Just show the gear ratios in the owners manual, no?

If the adjuster don't know what overdrive is just teach him.

Spooler 06-30-2016 08:20 PM

Good luck, Your gonna need it. If you still owe on the car I hope you have GAP insurance. My 2012 Nismo was totaled. The high mileage got me at 60K miles. All comparables only had 30K.

I had my neck surgery due to the wreck on June 20th. To put salt on the wounds even more my Wife was hit in he rear in her Maxima that night coming back to see me at the hospital. It is a total loss also. Hope it was not your fault.

SouthArk370Z 06-30-2016 08:35 PM

Nearly all cars made in the last 20 years or so have OD transmissions. Back in the Good Old Days, some vehicles would have a separate OD unit, but nowadays they just add some gears to the transmission (the 7AT is OD in 6th and 7th). There is no difference between your OD and the OD of other Nismos (or any 370z).

mayday813 07-01-2016 06:30 AM

Ask to speak to the adjuster's supervisor. Adjuster's handle many types of vehicles so it doesn't surprise me that they're not that familiar with 370Z's. Suggestion, find other comparable cars in your area with similar mileage and equipment to show the adjuster valuation. The adjuster is probably using CCC. Take a look at KBB and NADA to get a better idea of value if you haven't already.

Dirk McGurck 07-01-2016 07:38 AM

Just tell them the car is worthy Eleventy Zillion dollars.
