Someone broke my lock pillar finisher

Hey guys, I just discovered this unpleasant surprise and thought I would share my pain to help with the grieving process or maybe even get some advice.

So the other day while washing my car I noticed that the black shiny plastic part next to the driver’s side window (lock pillar finisher according to the service manual) was looking a bit weird, it looked like it had a gap on the top right corner, so I decided to move it to the correct position but it felt loose. Upon further inspection I found out that the top clip was broken ("Pawl" according to the diagram, I don't even know what that is ), not only that but it had some silicone to “hold it in place”:shakes head:.

Obviously I didn't break it, so I’m only left with two options of where this could have happened.

1.When I took it to get the clear bra on
2.At the dealer

I first called the clear bra place and asked the owner about it, and he said that he had noticed it and that the part was already like that when they got the car. (They added clear bra to those parts as well so that how they could have known). To be honest it seems weird that they could have broken that part because they have no reason to remove it or apply pressure. Anyway they denied that they had something to do with it and I can only trust them because I have no real evidence.

So my next stop is going to be the dealer, I'm still not sure how to handle it. I don't know if I should just state that the car came like that and make a big fuss about it, or remove the silicon and say that it just broke and file it as a warranty claim.

If none of those work I'm looking at $63 to buy and replace the part myself.

So that’s my story. Any comments? Advice?

Hold dealer responsible. They'll always try and screw customers just to save some dollars. Never trust the stealership, plus it sucks to think you go in with a bright attitude all happy to get a car and the. You get this kind of crap from them? Sucks.

Also, if the clear bra place noticed it did they take any pictures of that being like that already? And why didn't they notify you immediately when they noticed it? I'd think that to CYA (or in their case theirs) they'd call you and let you know that there's a prob with the car as to eliminate the possibility of the customer getting suspicious with them??? Idk my thoughts.

kenchan 04-27-2016 01:37 PM

use some VHB tape.

My thoughts exactly. That would have been the right thing to do IMO, that's why I can't completely discard the possibility of them having something to do with it, but like I said I also don't have any solid proof :(

if walked into a hair salon with a bald spot on ur head, they're not going to point dat out to u even if they noticed it. :ugh:

kenchan 04-27-2016 01:43 PM

or like...hey, u got a fugly face, just letting u know before we do any work on ur hair.. :ugh2:

quarryninja 04-27-2016 01:54 PM

Lol

Well they should. If you're fugly and don't know it someone should let you know haha

kenchan 04-27-2016 01:57 PM

get some VHB tape and stack it as needed. should fix it up nicely.

Hahaha I see the point being made XD but I've seen it done a million times in mechanics cases man. They must let you know in order for them to cover their ***. I do it all the time in construction, if your car is broken near a place I'm going to be working on then I'd rather let the person know before I do anything. A beauty salon and a mechanic or body shop is very different.

Alternatively I'd use this opportunity to get better pillars? Say some carbon fiber? Lol

SMFH it's 60 bucks dude, go buy a new one /thread

I never said it was expensive. I clearly stated the price and said I would buy it if my other options don't work.

If that's your take on thing well then OK, but just to be clear it's not about the price, I know it's not expensive but it's a brand new car why should I have to pay for things I didn't brake.

If there's nothing cosmetically wrong with it just get some VHB tape like Kenchan suggested.

But again it's a brand NEW 2016.

Personally I'd just replace it.

ZVox 04-27-2016 09:07 PM

OOOOOH boy I just went through a month of hell, with those stupid *** trim pieces. I had to have my windshield replaced from a rock that cracked it. Well severely long story short, the glass place broke and had to repair the following...

- Rearview mirror
- Had to install 2 windows, first one was defective
- Interior driver side pillar cover...they scratched the hell out of it.
- BOTH outside pillar covers and BOTH of those little black trim pieces, because they removed them in the wrong order, breaking all the clips and then tried to cover it up. By gluing the dam things back on.

So my 300 dollar window repair became a 2000 bill for the window place.

quarryninja 04-27-2016 09:21 PM

WTF!? How could they've broken all those things for only a windshield change?

I guess I'm lucky to just have one broken piece then haha

I have no clue man, believe me it was a nightmare, I dropped off the final bill to them today, and Im waiting for an answer tomorrow. They better cough up the dough because I have to go to small claims they wont stand a chance with the evidence I have.

Never seen such a shady, crappy, low down thing in my life.

Either way, I've prepared my google, yelp and any other review page I can hit. And I'll be contacting the Better Business Bureau.

Update.

Went to the dealer, told them about it, they asked for my papers and told me that the new part will arrive in no more than 10 days.

Thought it was going to be a big hassle and I was prepared to do a big scene but they didn't even give me a chance lol.

I was in and out in 15 minutes. I think this is the best dealer experience I've ever had.

If this hadn't happened then I would have probably used the double sided tape as suggested but deep down it was going to bother me everyone I looked at it.

kenchan 05-01-2016 02:26 PM

If u do it correctly the tape works just as good.

Not like ur other tabs might or might not be broken. :ugh:
