@stick_shift has a valid point, often I pass by a window at work and just stare at her, then go to take a picture from the exact same angle and the depth, lighting, shadows--they're just not there. The car is hard to capture "on film," but there's no doubt it's much more in person--especially behind the wheel.

There are awesome shots on the forum, high contrast, over-saturated, sharp focus, no blow-outs, with excellent color palette and visually interesting. I tip my hat, those are not easy to get, and there are so many people here with talent.

Just took another look out the window at her, black sport touring roadster...I'm drooling. I put showroom LED lighting in the garage just because of the car--every morning before work and every evening when she's parked I reflect on how fortunate I am to be able to enjoy her.

It's a photogenic car, but it's even more better looking in person

BobbyLight 05-04-2016 03:07 PM

I agree it looks way meaner in person. It's a beautiful car to photograph or otherwise, but I didn't prefer it over the 350z I had for a time. It wasn't until my first zdayz that it grew on me. Also seeing Lou Panda's red 370z on the poker run disappear like david blaine himself was driving . I was maybe 20-30 yards behind him on a long sweeping right turn when he got on it, at which point the trees blocked my view. The turn opened up into a significant straight, 300 yards at least; and he was nowhere to be found. Gone. I wanted a 370z after that.

I'd have to agree that in stock form, it's not that appealing :ugh:

It's a helluva lot better than a 350z

It really depends on the picture, imo. The angle, the lighting, shadows, etc. Same can be said about most other cars too, and very often there's a lot of touch up, or it's not stock to really bring it out.

With stock, it's a bit harder to catch all the curves, which I think makes it look incredibly sexy. It also depends who's looking at it. Z enthusiasts will already have a bias, and know what to look for. Those who aren't familiar with a Z may not catch all those nice details in a basic photo, but usually appreciate it a lot more when seen in person.

I had a recent example. One of my friends who aren't really into cars, so therefore knows practically nothing about a Z, sees a basic photo of my 2016 370z and thinks it looks kinda like a "Fish" (cuz of the front "mouth"). I later traded that in for the 2016 Nismo (I regretted not getting the Nismo first, but pricey lesson learned). When he saw a pic of the Nismo he said it looks like an "Angrier Fish". Oookayyy.

But when he saw it in person, he was like, "Oh wow, looks much better in person".

Of course, I don't claim to be a photographer either, so this is based on a simple average Joe phone photo.

My car (albeit not even close to stock) is probably one of the easiest cars to take pictures of. Looks great from every angle IMO

felix0121 05-09-2016 01:29 PM

Maybe it would be more accurate to say that "Zs are comparatively harder to be on a nice angle for being photogenic than other (sports) cars".

The new nismos look sick with the new front, but looks are always subjective, photos depend heavily on lighting and background.

This looks like crap because it was taken from a phone but had it been a DSLR, would have been epic!

Very Photogenic depending on the lighting

My car looks better in person than it ever does in the photos
I look at my car and it looks so nice... then I take a picture and it looks like crap lol
+1 on not being very photogenic

markesc 05-15-2016 01:39 PM

I think the key with this car is you need to physically stand farther away, use a nice zoom lens, and capture it that way, otherwise the wide angle distortion in most shots/perspectives will make the car look more rounded...

**Also** Shoot @ Sunset with the light hitting the car... the middle of the day stuff rarely works.

markesc 05-15-2016 01:42 PM

Not the best lighting... but a good backround certainly helps!

I resemble that remark. ;)

Great photo though; nicely done!

+1 - It's hard to capture how nice it looks in person in a photograph without some careful planning.

I personally think it's because so much is lost when the car isn't viewed dynamically, or at the least in 3D.
