New VR engine in same 370z body for 2017?
Hey guys. First time post but long time reader. I drive a 07 350z and am strongly considering upgrading to a 370.
Question is, what's the chances nissan just drops the new 400hp tt VR engine into the existing 370? Maybe tweak it/ give it a face lift. They did that with the Infiniti sadan. It was a vq and now a VR. So why not save money and drop that beast in the 370 which is still the sexiest car out in my opinion. Thoughts??? |
no chance
|
I don't see that happening. The VR has to take up more space and with the additional plumbing and air handling, it would take a decent amount of work to squeeze it in. The Q60 was a redesign, similar to the G35 Sedan changing exterior first, then engine.

if youre a long time reader you should know where the search bar is by now lol also i agree with dirk it would be a pain to fit and need redeisgned. |
Sorry regarding the new thread. I just haven't seen specifically this discuss anywhere else.
I'm sad you guys say no chance though. It'd be sick if that did that then came out with new body after. Send off the 370 with proper power package. |

Either they will drop the Z line again (the smarter move), or a completely new model |
You want them to kill the Z?
|
Highly doubt Nissan is gonna drop the VQ if they continue the "370z" name. VR is a much larger engine and the current Z engine bay would need to be redesigned.
|
Honestly there probably is a good chance that will happen... I would wait.

It would be sweet if all car manufacturers let you put in any engine as an option. Mine would look like,
Car: 2017 Nissan 370Z (base $26,000; excludes engine and transmission) Engine: GM V8 LT-1 460 hp, 455 lb/ft. torque at 5600 RPM (add $7,000) Transmission: 7-speed manual $2,500 Sport package: add $3,000 Total MSRP excluding destination: $38,500 ...Do you want to proceed? |
I saw a commercial for the q50 advertising 400hp car yesterday... you never know...
|
u guys cry about some dogdamn steering lock and now u want an engine made by GM? :ugh:

Shut Up and Take My Money. Also acceptable would be the VK45DE with a flat plane crank.

[TROLL]
Rumor has it that the next Z will go back to its roots as the 240Z featuring a normally aspirated 2.4L inline-4 making about 200 hp. Apparently Nissan wants to compete with the Mazda Miata. TROLLOLOLOLOL [/TROLL] |
So now we have two sucky Z threads.

What kind of oil would be the best to use in this engine?

I think this thread can also use an argument about manual vs auto.

New VR engine in same 370z body for 2017?
Quote:
Yeah, there's never been a good 3.0TT motor. All those Supras running around don't count. It's obvious who's never put aftermarket turbos on a car when they make it sound so easy. I think every one who has done it would have preferred that it was turboed from the factory. |

I don't understand what's so hard about dropping the new VR in the existing 370 --
Obviously I know very little about this subject, but wouldn't modifying the 370z engine bay be much cheaper than developing an entirely new platform? And just give the thing a face lift and you're done. Sounds easy to me (relative to developing a completely new car). |

b. the current Z is now in it's 8th model year......it's tired. it's time to move forward. new look, new engine, updated tech. |
And it's not just fitting the engine in. Nissan is very particular with where the engine sits in the car, so if the VR fits, but sits a foot towards the front plus the weight of the turbo system, you now have poor weight distribution. Also, air flow for a turbo system is different, so all of the aero, including the shape of the hood and bumpers and where everything is inside the engine bay, would have to be reworked.

This. OEMs don't just drop an engine in a car and call it a day. |
