My thoughts on the new NISMOs..
About 2 years ago, I bought my 2012 Pearl White NISMO. When I was at the dealership last night for a Titan XD unveiling event, I noticed they had a new 2016 Solid Red NISMO. I have to admit - it looks really nice as its own design. I just think that they toned down the "original" 370 NISMO "track-ready" styling. I was also very disappointed to see that the new NISMOs no longer come through with a NISMO serial plate identifying what number they are for the particular year. :shakes head: It's like Nissan decided to just turn it into another trim level and got rid of the exclusivity associated with the model. Kinda feels more like a Juke NISMO to me now.
The dealer was trying to convince me that I should upgrade, but I honestly never had that feeling like I have to have it. I definitely won't be trading mine in for one. What are your thoughts? Edit: No offense or hate meant to anyone that owns one of the new NISMOs, but they just aren't my cup of tea. |
I prefer the wheels/body style of the pre-2015 Nismos to the newer ones. I must say though that the seats in the newer ones are pretty awesome.
|
I agree - the seats look really nice. They are much firmer than the older style which is probably good for spirited driving, but probably less comfy on longer drives.

Also, the painted headlights are an improvement. |

And I like everything about the new model... except the wheels, go figure. |
my thought since the beginning has not changed. nismos are too heavy where the base with the sport package out accelerates, out brakes them.
the new design in white i kinda like though.. but honestly if i was to get the nismo, i would get the AT as it is special in that regards. the only time i would get an AT is if my left ankle completely gave away, so u will probably never see me in the current gen nismo.. |

Just curious if there was data showing the 370 sport pkg out accelerates the Nismo model. I looked online and didn't see anything saying that. The sites that did have numbers showed the Nismo as like 0.1 seconds faster to 60. Just curious |
I really liked the older ones. They really stuck out from the regular Z's. Now Unless you know what you're looking for you would pretty easily mistake them for a regular Z.

yah as for AT, i dont really care for them.. |

i never saw the point of getting one and paying 10k more for a different body kit and 18hp. you could get all of that stuff for way cheaper. if it offered more hp or way better handling then i can see paying 10k more.

I kind of just like how rare they are and how most average people don't even know it's a Nissan until they look at the badge. Edit: Oh, and the NISMO Rays. :driving: |

Neither body kit does it for me really. Fine and different but nothing special. The 2015 bumper is a tremendous improvement though. And I like the way the wing blends into the hatch.
Pre-2015 wheels for sure. And serial number. But I absolutely love the new seats (except I generally prefer darker colors). I also really dig the new black headlights, black fuel gauge face, and the darker gun metal trim throughout the interior cabin instead of bright silver like mine. But I'm pretty sure these are on all new Z's (not just Nismo models). |
Love the look of the '15+. Never liked the 350 NISMO nor the 370 prior. Too "boy ricer" for me. Kinda feel the same about the STi look. And for the price....no thanks.
|
Both are super Ricey in my opinion. Like some pep boys model.. or more like lipstick on a pig. Also they priced it way too high.
nothing beats a gunmetal or pearlwhite sport package with fangs. |
I like the white model. after seeing the black in person it's okay... the red is a bit too deep and makes it more subtle.
|
Hmm, sounds like everybody has their own likes and dislikes between the '16 and previous year Nismo models. Go figure! 😂 It must be the reason there are so many different options and trim packages. I must say I do prefer the '16's rear spoiler.... and I expect everyone in this forum to agree with me 😀😳😂😔😏
|
the rear spoiler on the current nismo is too small. if u can put something like a mine's lip or something to balance out with the rear bumper valance, then it could look pretty cool.
|
No regrets with my 2014 gunmetal Nismo. I told myself if I were to get a 370z it NEEDED to be a Nismo. Anyone with a Nismo will understand the looks it gets from other people on the road. A lot of people love the look and just can't seem to understand what kind of car it is, which is why they stare at it (especially non car enthusiasts). Plus, a lowered Nismo with wheel spacers will catch way more "thumbs up" from people than a regular 370z, and I'm the last person to care what other people think - it's just kinda cool.
Whether the Nismo is worth the premium over the base and sports package, that's all personal preference. If you're not looking to mod much and want a real eye catcher, the Nismo fits the bill perfectly. |
or just use photoshop..

the earlier Nismo's were built by Autech and were a special car. The current ones are just a trim level. That being said, I drove one on a supervised track and an autocross in Japan a year and a half ago, and was very impressed
|
They are both stupid re badged money grabs over the sport model. F the seats i want factory turbos.
|
Also none of the production nismos were ever built by autech only the 380rs's were. I have ripped an 06 350 nismo to the frame and counted the welds exact same car as an enthusiast only with the hr motor that became standard in 07. At least in 2006 that was enough of a justification to actually make it worth it.
Edit: i actually have a really funny storry about going to branson z fest where a guy who had an 06 nismo drove my car and then told me that even though my car was faster his had better feel thanks to his (non) seam welded chassis and (almost identical to a base) tunned by autech (again nope) nismo edition suspension. |
I would say that the new gen Nismo is an upgrade except for the spoiler. The wheels seem lighter but it ain't as pretty as it's older sibling. I could not find info to compare how much each weigh so it is conjecture. Nissan missed the perceived value of numbered Nismos. Clearly, their intention is not to have limited edition pieces. Hell they're pushing their bumpers for cheap. Much cheaper than the previous gen Nismos.
|
I love the new Nismo but personally not worth it for me. It's 12k more than the base with insignificant performance improvements. If money isn't a factor, I'd get the Nismo in a heart beat.

I like them, but not enough to trade my current Nismo for it. Not enough changed and too mild in the aggressive category IMO. If it had came stock with the Carbon Signal pieces on it with a more aggressive rear spoiler, I'd be on it in a heartbeat!!!

Now driving a 14 Nismo, price and mileage was just too good to pass up. Tho the 370 are fat heavy hogs anyway I do think my 12 sport/touring would out accelerate my Nismo. I use to hate the boy racer spoiler but it has grown on me. 15 Nismo blends in with the other level Z's so would i pay eXtra nah. I would take the new Nismo headlights in the blink of an eye, that is about it. Yeah the seats are awesome but can't see them being comfortable enough for road trips.
|
All they had to do was throw FI at it, but no... can't have anything nice when the bean counters are in charge.

Way to go Z-Girl. |
No regrets on my 2010 Nismo purchased new. Still enjoy driving it and received many positive comments over the years. No plans on trading it in any time soon.
|
Now, will we ever see the Nismo roadster? Or was it just a concept? Now that's a Nismo I would love
|
The current Nismo was the model I was hoping for when I bought my 2010 touring/sport/navi. The old Nismo was way too boy racer looking for me with a base model interior. The pre 2015 still has the best looking wheels though, specially the silver ones.
|
I love everything about my 14 Nismo over the 15+ models, except the seats and headlights. I installed the headlights (nice contrast of black on white), and if I ever get those seats my car would be the ideal Nismo for me.
