Anyone have any idea what this switch is

While installing my SprintBooster switch under the steering wheel, I came across this other switch with a green button on it. It's right under the steering wheel close to where one of the AC vents is.

Is this something aftermarket? I bought the car brand new from dealer so it's kinda odd and doesn't seem to be OEM.

Does anyone know what it could be?

You know i was helping someone else with a newer Z and it had this same switch. I asked him what it was and he didn't know ether. I have a '10 and it does not have this switch.

perhaps this could be common among the the newer models. I wonder what it is though?

What would it be used for?

zmanelite 12-11-2015 08:47 PM

Can you follow the wires ??

Almost looks like part of a aftermarket alarm

cooltoy 12-11-2015 08:54 PM

You two should meet.

+1. If you can figure out what the wires are connected to, that may be a big hint as to what it does.

That's what I thought at first, but why the connector/jack? If it were for a "key", OP would have to plug the key in to disarm alarm. shrug

I hope somebody figures it out; my curiosity is piqued. :)

littlejuanito 12-11-2015 10:58 PM

The wires ran all the way inside behind radio and after that couldn't follow them anymore. Of course unless I disassemble around the area.

The car belonged to a Power Dealer.

RN SHARK 12-12-2015 12:12 AM

I know what that is!! My 2009 has it, as does my 2014 SRT. It is a car tracking/alarm that is a dealer install. Actually, the company is Karrtrack. They install it at the dealer, takes about a day because the tracking device is hidden within the car. Anyway, the tracking portion is a paid subscription and you could most likely activate it. My Z is alarm only, but my SRT has the full package. I've answered this riddle for a few people in this forum.

Tracking device?

Not doubting you, but it seems odd that a tracking device would have a switch that can be used to turn it off??

I wonder if it was just a dealer alarm and the button is for the valet mode or on/off

barncobob 12-12-2015 10:51 AM

my new 2016 Sport doesnt have it.

That switch doesn't turn it off... It doesn't do anything really, I think you need a transponder with it.

I had this in my Maxima, had it ripped out because it was fücking with the car. The one that was in it was REALLY intricate, it could roll the windows up, lock the doors and turn the car off.

I was told 99% of cars that lived at a Power dealer had these installed

littlejuanito 12-12-2015 11:13 AM

What's a Power Dealer

Dealer network, they got bought by Auto Nation
I don't know if all Auto Nation's put these on their cars, but most Power's did

The green button can be used to adjust the sensitivity of the alarm. I called Karrtrack and asked. There is a sequence and such and the light blinks accordingly. My SRT was way too sensitive. It may do some other simple function, but that is what I know from speaking to them via phone.

RN SHARK 12-12-2015 01:26 PM

This add-on is popular in the southwest US, as my Z is from the Bay Area and my SRT is from San Diego. (We recently moved to NC, bad idea, but I digress). With the tracking, I get text message alerts when my alarm goes off, I can track its movement in realtime. It came in handy when the transport semi took my cars across country. I could see exactly where it was in the U.S. at all times.
