Buy American?

on a recent Sunday morning, I was behind a medium sized GM SUV while driving my Nissan. My daughter noticed the decal in the right corner of the rear window, the cartoon guy urinating on the word "Imports." In the left corner of the window was the gold and black decal of the UAW. I saw the large sized blond woman look at me in her side mirror as she flicked her cigarette into the street. She turned into Walmart and the incongruity of shopping there considering her decals seemed lost on her.

vipor 11-06-2009 09:07 AM

hillbilly!

i prefer to buy from companies that will be around in the next few years, and aren't owned by obama

That's a awesome.

frost 11-06-2009 09:14 AM

Now the real question is, is it one of the SUVs that were built at GM's Silao, Mexico plant.

vipor 11-06-2009 09:14 AM

Missouri.... probably the Arlington, TX plant

vipor 11-06-2009 09:15 AM

vipor 11-06-2009 09:20 AM

haha yeah lol

lemansz20 11-06-2009 09:36 AM

When they start making interiors that are not borrowing their quality from legos, i will get back to the american cars.

Endgame 11-06-2009 09:38 AM

^ DANG!! That was good!!

Just depends on how much you're willing to spend, rofl.

Premo34WV 11-06-2009 09:52 AM

Yeah frost that interior is sick:bowrofl:

lemansz20 11-06-2009 10:08 AM

Oh I forgot, you are right cadillac is an exemption, and I think lincoln has decent looking/feeling interiors as they are the higher brands. I guess I should be more specific, i meant like chevrolet and ford. Camaro for example, I am pretty sure the dash is made from the same material used in the tupperware in my fridge.

But you are right, I was just meaning like for the same price range, the z, the g, honestly even alot of mazdas have better quality then the american cars. ( and for the record I REALLY hope to own a cts v soon)

I was thinking navigator, as they are pretty nice inside I would say. Never sat in one, but looked pretty nice. I am just surprised with all the normal priced cars like the z for instance, chevrolet would step up their game and see that for a good price you can get a quality interior.

KillerBee370 11-06-2009 10:47 AM

"Buy American"? I do... I buy Nissan cars sold in America.

Now that (your car) is an awesome car. I didn't want to sound stereotypical, but the woman grabbed her cell phone and was yelling at her kids who were bouncing all over inside the truck before she gave me a dirty look and turned into Walmart. Me? I was laughing too hard to say anything.

KillerBee370 11-06-2009 02:39 PM

Yeah.. about the only thing we can do is pity people like this. I certainly wouldn't want to walk in their shoes. Even for a day.

I really like my Lincoln MKX and the value for the money was right on. Not to mention it was made right here in Canada. Well, Ontario, if you can call that part of Canada still. As for the Nissan 370Z I just ordered, well, I like to think I am helping the global economy too!!

Should have stopped them and told them to buy a Toyota then:

My dream car is still an Escalade EXT and it will be my next car. Built the way I want it, it'll be around 65-70k, which is about where I want to spend for my next anyways. So it'll either be that, or something like a BMW M class. I didn't want either now, because at 26...I don't want to feel like an old man yet.

I've owned/driven 6 cars. I still own all the imports, and the domestic ones are in a junk yard somewhere. Cadillac or Buick will be the only domestic car I own from now on.

cptspeed 11-06-2009 03:58 PM

I'm a union worker and believe in supporting local labor and businesses. However one of the great things about this country is the freedom to do basically what I want and choose to buy what I want. Build an equal car thats made here and I'll buy it. Period. Show us that you are superior,UAW!

kenchan 11-06-2009 04:21 PM

This thread reminds me of another thread at a different forum when one of the members there cracked me up saying something about the patriotic american flags these rednecks wave. The flags which are made in china. :D

Hahaha.

Thank you. I was just searching for this article. :tiphat:

fncrow 11-06-2009 04:56 PM

When i drove my car up to Michigan as soon as i hit the border i saw virtually no imports on the roads everything was american. I got looks from A LOT of people lol. I just thought to myself "You're just giving me mean looks because your upset your car doesnt look as good as mine"

Forrest 11-06-2009 09:44 PM

Alot of Nissan's are built in Tennesee. just not the Z.

People say that buy American crap but they dont understand the concept that America was built off competition and capitalism. That means to me if some one can provide you with a superior product you dont buy the crappy product.

Simple fact that Goverment bought out GM means they messed with a already good working system. GM should have went under, that would have left space for a new company to arise and profit, providing us with something possibly better or worse. You cant keep providing garbage and hope every one bails you out.

I also bet you take any one of those idiots that spout buy american, i can almost promise they would drive a brand new ferrari if it was handed to them.

Oh yeah, there is NOTHING American that i could have bought that was 31.5k that is better than my Z.

dad 11-06-2009 10:11 PM

Buy American?
Execluding automobiles!
What is left that's built in America? All the plants are south of the border, or over seas! GM wants to build automobile plants in Russia!

I've actually sat in that interior and trust me it doesn't compare to the quality you get in BMW/Mercedes/Audi. That shiny black plastic on the center console is just terrible, the plastic in the 370Z feels better than that crap.

vipor 11-07-2009 02:04 AM

it looks like they hired an Infiniti designer. hell, look at the analog clock...

Well, one of the reasons the interiors in the same price range no way compete goes back to that little sticker on her vehicle that read "UAW" :iagree:

:iagree: ................ and back to the OP's original comments, most everyone here are car enthusiasts and understand the "global" reality of where parts are sourced from, where different makes and models are assembled, etc. It is really sad when some ignorant fool wants to damage you or your Z because you didn't "buy American", when so many imports are assembled in America, while that "American" vehicle they are sporting around was built in Mexico.

The Corvette guys are the first to wave the flag. They're in complete denial when you tell them there car is only 79% US content..

You took the words out of my mouth. All I can say is amen.

ZKindaGuy 11-09-2009 09:38 AM

I am sure if you tear down every vehicle made you are bound to find a mix of foreign and domestic vendors. Even the Big 3 have preferred vendor lists based on lowest cost. The whole thing is one huge irony!

kenchan 11-09-2009 09:59 AM

Irony and deception. The dumb gets dumber and poorer, smarter gets richer. And the middle class gets to pay the price.

DIGItonium 11-09-2009 12:55 PM

Wow... I pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant downtown last night to meet up with some friends. All of a sudden I kept hearing some V8 revving and roaring. I was already  about other things, and the revving got me ticked off. [Foolishly] I started revving back wondering wtf was going on, and he started revving even more. Then I shutoff my car and proceeded to walk in the restaurant with my gf. We kept hearing more revs, so I walked out and this bald douche kept staring at me with the "I'm going to kill you" look and kept revving. It was an El Camino with a couple of dirt bikes on the back. I walked back in, he pulled out and left. :shakes head:

j.arnaldo 11-09-2009 01:20 PM

...I must confess I've been considering the Mercury Milan as a DD; you know, like to spare my Zed the daily wear and tear. The main problem's the pre$ent $ituation!

Are you kidding? From what I have experienced Mazda's interior are very good.
