I must look in the manual and see how it's done. I'm really not all that familiar with the controls on the V1. I never use 'em except to turn it on. YaV1 has a mode where the display on the V1 is black so it doesn't light up like a christmas tree at night. YaV1 runs on the phone down low in the car. All the alerts go there.

That's why you get so many false alarms. None of the filters are working unless you turn on full Logic mode. Push the power button until you get a small "L". Then push it again until you get a large " L". That's full Logic mode. Filters out all the false alarms. V1 in unfiltered mode is unbearable. You will fall in love with the V1 once you use it properly and enable full Logic filtering.

Edit: You only have to do this ONCE. It will turn on in full Logic mode every time after you do it one time.

I put my V1 in the car today for the first time in ages. I looked at the manual last night to see how to switch modes. Today I ran the V1 without the phone and YaV1 and the only thing that showed when I switched modes was a large U and a small u. Then I remembered that YaV1 reprograms the V1 so I figured I'd have to link to the phone again and change things to get the V1 back in its normal state and get those logic modes. I'll try it again tomorrow for the h*** of it.

Not trying to be an @ss but when I was younger I got fewer tickets after I gave up the detector. Just got to find the right(and safe) places to get on it.

Hi everyone! I want to buy a good radar detector. What is the best police radar detector right now?

Thanks!

The Valentine 1 still beats the latest and greatest from the other folks in the tests I've seen... I know mine has never let me down in all the years I've had it. :)

The V1 still performs, but looks dated and does not have a lot of the features the Escorts have. If you are willing to be a bit more engaged with it, getting the bluetooth module and using the YaV1 app will give you the featureset the escorts have out of the box.

I wish Valentine would start giving us this stuff... I have an escort MAX 360 and it's nice, but the arrows are far less responsive when compared to the V1. I didn't think it to be acceptable to have to connect my phone and use an app every time I got in my car, so I went with the escort.

I've used the V1 since 1999. It's paid for itself many times over.

With the bluetooth module and Iphone app that I recently added, it's even better.

soo the way to go is the Valentine One right?

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Here is a general buying guide, based completely on my opinion but I have had a V1, Escort 9500ix, Escort MAX 360, Laser Intercepter jammers, and Antilaser Priority jammers so I am somewhat into this stuff.

Best overall performer:
V1 + bluetooth module + YaV1 app

CON: You have to use the bluetooth module and app with your phone to get features like GPS lockout (if you are unfamiliar, this uses GPS positioning to find recurring false alarms and stops reporting them to you. It's a fantastic feature that I can not live without).

Best performer out of the box:
Escort MAX 2 or 360 (depending on if you want the arrows).

CON: feels a little laggy compared to the V1, but gives you a complete feature set out of the box

Best detection performance:
Bel STI-R

CON: Basically featureless.

Note: Do they primarily use laser in your area? One thing anyone in the market needs to realize is that no detector will protect you from laser. If laser is commonly used in your area, laser jammers are the only thing that will protect you. If you are in the market for jammers, the only one you should consider buying right now is Antilaser.

I personally run a MAX 360 and Antilaser Priority with two jammer heads in the front.

Also.. if you go escort - you can follow a DIY thread on here to make this nicely integrated mute button out of one of your switch blanks:

Great bro! thanks a lot for your time and all the Info! I really appreciated

Laser/radar jammers are illegal here in Cali, radar detectors are not.

I'd love to run jammers:tup:

Huh, I didn't know that.. Looks like several states have passed laws against them.

I'd imagine the risk of getting caught is very low though. Proper technique with jammers is to slow down to the speed limit when you get the alert and turn it off so the officer can get a read on you instead of wondering why his gun isn't working (I have literally driven by cops shaking and hitting their guns thinking it is malfunctioning). The Antilaser has a configurable auto-shutoff. I have mine set for 4 seconds.. so when it goes off, I have 4 seconds to slow down before it stops jamming automatically.

As far as visual inspection goes, my AL also behaves as a parking sensor and I can demonstrate it easily in case someone questions what the little black boxes are for.

I have an Escort Passport max2 and after passing a number of statepolice pointing their laser guns right at me and near by cars and not having any warnings. I did some reasearch and found escort has been falling behind and does not detect all laser guns especially ones becoming more common in NJ. But through use of Waze I and common sense it has yet to be an problem.

You cannot go wrong with any RD of Valentine (V1), Escort, or Beltronics.

It seems like the V1 and Escort 360 are at the top of the pile. I'm in the market for a scanner and curious if anyone with a scanner has new opinions with their setup?

Check our the Uniden R1 and R3. These are phenomenal radar detectors.
