Socal370z:

WOW way too much work. I would hire you to do it. I'm so lost.
I would prefer a different color. That's why when I get my Z, I have to think about getting them because I would never be able to install them my self. But thanks for the instructions anyways

It is not that bad to install. I'm just a detail person, and like to understand the workings and relationships of things so that's why you see the detail in my post. I should, and was planning to photograph the installation to demonstrate to others, but had a small time window and needed to concentrate while installing.

My biggest question is for those who ordered their Z with this accessory installed from the factory as I want to know where the fuse is located in their situation?

The supplied "T" wiring loom connector pin locations are completely occupied although the existing connector going into it had relatively few wires (this is owed to options here and elsewhere sold on Zs around the world). If I had my druthers, I would have used the proper pin tool and simply removed the pins from the "T" and punched them back into the existing connector plug the connects to the "T." That way you would not need the "T" altogether.

For those who have ordered and received them on their Z do you have a fuse in the fuse box for the sills? If you had it installed at the dealership, or you install them yourself you receive a wiring harness "T" that includes an inline fuse. [I]This is great with the exception that the fuse is hidden behind a passenger's side kick panel that is not quickly removed to check the fuse; let alone even knowing where the fuse exists if you are the successive owner of the Z

Maybe as a courtesy to the future buyer or a reminder to yourself a few years down the road (funny how a person forgets), just put a sticky pad note in the owners manual on the fuse box page with reference to the inline kick panel fuse and its location.

Did anyone put these instructions in the DIY section? I would like to see some pictures for some mod opportunities. I don't think my car came with illuminated kick plates, so I may order these and switch out the LED colors ahead of time.

tvfreakazoid 03-13-2009 05:16 AM

Nope you don't have to worry about that. It's optional. I do prefer a different color. Bluish/purple would be sweet or changes colors.

I'm sorta hoping it doesn't come pre-installed when I get mine, so I can look forward to a group like EVO-R to do something similar or better. White LED illumination is something I'd like. Otherwise, I'd pull it apart and change out the LED. :-D

I just did mine. Tour & sport package, it was not pre wired. It is very easy and would not pay to have it done if you have a little bit of experience playing around.

Hardest part was disconnecting the wire harness from the box. It is on the passenger side under the dash. The connector was a little bit hard to get off and in a hard to reach place.

I would also recommend you have a cable snake to route the cable from the passenger side over to the driver side. Mine had a about a 1/2" space to slide the wire through. Cable snake made it very easy.

I just did mine as well the other night. Like Bulaman, the hardest part was disconnecting the wiring harness. Those things are on there really good, and obviously for a good reason. But that also makes it difficult to unplug.

According to the directions, you should pull the carpeting of the passenger-side floor board back, and then route the wiring through the front of the center console. I tried this and was unable to find a spot to route through the front of the center console. Instead, I did like Bulaman did too, routing through the tight spot in the back of the center console. I didn't have a cable snake... I used electrical tape and wrapped it around the end of the wire, and attached that to one end of a chopstick. Just pushed it through the small opening in the back of the center console, and it just pops out the other side.

Also, when you're attaching that plastic plug into the back of the kick plate, make sure you line it up correctly with the holes in your door frame. Pushing the plastic plug all the way into the slot in the kick plate did NOT line up well with my door frame.

OVerall the job is not hard at all. Hardest part is definitely the connector. And I wish I didn't waste time pulling back the passenger-side carpet and trying to figure out how to route it through the front of the center console.

Nice MacGyver chopstick trick!!

That wording on the instructions was crap. I sat there looking at it for a good 10 minutes trying to figure out what I was missing. Finally decided I wasn't missing anything because you would have to pull out the console to run it through the front of it....unless they meant the front of the car. That would make no sense because the pictures were from the perspective of a person sitting in it. Oh, well it was pretty easy. Wife thinks I am a dork for doing it....cool friends see it and say "ooooh nice!"

I WANT THOSE LEDs IN THE HEADLIGHTS!!!!

Auto-Windows

SoCal.... Thanks for the auto-window note. I installed my illum. kickplates over the weekend. Tonight I started washing the car and noticed the driver window down a bit, I jumped in started it up, rolled it up, shut it off, jumped out, watched the window drop, shut the door and the darn thing didn't go back up. So I sat there and played with the door switch and the window just went down with each press of the button. This should fix it, I was worried I might've pushed a pin on the connector during the install. The only 2 options my Z didn't have upon purchase was the illum. kickplates and the carpeted trunk mat, which I had him order when I purchased. He sold me the kickplates below invoice for $128. So now my Touring Z Sport/Nav 6MT has every factory option on it.

nicknick 06-01-2009 10:16 PM

They look crap. Better to go with stainless steel or aluminium plates, looks better.

Thanks
