I would personally not mind getting the Genesis coupe. I did consider it and strongly thought about purchasing it so that I would have 10k more in my bank.

in the long run I chose against it because the name "Hyundai" has not become known for reliability "yet". They are on the right road, and They will probably surpass many of the best brands out there soon, but until it happens....

good luck in your new car!

agreed.

and lets not forget, i love the 370. would have bought it if the guy could make the numbers work like he had said previously. i like the extra 25 HP and the way it can rip around corners. its a great car.

but I dont love it 10k more then the gen coupe. and lets not forget Hyundai's 10 year powertrain warranty.

that was the point. few things i like about the gen coupe over the Z and a few things i like about the Z over the gen coupe but in the end the price difference was to much for what really is a similar car in many ways.

nurburgring 11-03-2009 09:54 AM

i think this is a pretty good and funny review.

it addresses the side where people say "i cant buy a Hyundai" etc.. its a fair review with positives and negatives.

Anyway, walked out thinking I was going to go to the next nissan dealer. Decided to walk right next door to the hyundai dealership the whole time dismissing the Gen Coupe in my mind. Saw it in pics and it was ugly. Let me tell ya, in person it looks a helluva lot better especially the track model with the 19 inch wheels and red brembo's. Car comes with pretty much everything. Heated leather seats, Touch screen Nav, bluetooth, climate control, shift paddles, push button start, HID lights, limited slip dif, brembos, track suspension, 312 horsepower (with premium Fuel) and the list goes on all for $31,500. I was pretty amazed at the quality of this car and how well equipped it is for its price point.

Still I said, this thing probably drives like a heap of sh*t. Had to give it a good test drive. Took it out and surprise surprise this thing can move and takes the corners very nicely. The shift paddles are very responsive and the Brembos bring you to a stop in a hurry. Its a little harsh on the shitty jersey roads because of its track setup but that is to be expected. 0-60 comes in at about 5.8 seconds. Not quite as fast as the Z but honestly its still damn quick. It has a better exhaust sound then the Z also. A nice deep pur when you hit the gas. The Z is a bit harsh sounding. The interior is nicer then the Z. No doubt about it. Its immediately obvious when you get in, different league. I do wish that it had 25-30 more HP to match the Z in speed but those numbers are more bragging rights then anything because you cant even come close to pushing the Gen Coupe to its limits on the street. None the less, that extra 25 HP would help me match you guys on the track.

It all comes down to this, I love the 370z its a great car. But with the genesis coupe 3.8 track I get pretty much everything the Z has at almost 10 grand less!! I just could not justify the Z after driving the Genesis Coupe.

:tiphat: :driving:

So what are you going to do with your Porsche Turbo?

jookiyaya 11-03-2009 10:44 AM

probably trade that in for a 370z LOL

They are quite nice cars. I had one before my 370.....it was fun to drive and it had enough get up and go for me.

(Now that I've experienced the 370....that might not be so true anymore about it having enough get up and go....I had no idea what I was missing!) :icon17:

Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion and is based on real feelings I had when cross shopping cars. Just being honest. I'm not saying its right :)

I saw my first Genesis up at Altered Atmosphere when they had that meet in June. Was that the first time you saw it, too?

Oh man....:icon18: That clears up a LOT.

No wonder he went with the Genesis...

YamahaR6 11-03-2009 11:11 AM

Thank God he did.

At least keeps the insurance rates low.

(Considering if he's really buying a car and if he actually have a driver license.)

in all fairness its the girlfriends and its a 911 carrera. she had it when i met her.

not a huge Porsche guy. i thought all 911's were turbos. lmao

YamahaR6 11-03-2009 11:24 AM

oh...so it's the girlfriend's 911 now....

so is your girlfriend the race driver?

TRock 11-03-2009 11:25 AM

This may be the only post I make on these forums but I wanted to say thank you. For the most part people did not give this guy any crap about buying a Hyundai (for the most part). We all know the 370Z outperforms the Genesis in most areas, but the price difference and how far Hyundai has come in the last few years makes it a nice option for those who want a nice sports coupe. It is good to not see the bashing like in other forums. Had this been a Camaro forum, and he decided on the Gen coupe instead, there would have been 1000 replies calling him an idiot or a moron. Obviously this forum has much more class!!

the first time you don't sound bitter and angry at the world.

maybe you can learn from nurburgring after all.

life is fun, enjoy my friend.

you have a great car. i would love to race you in the Gen Coupe to see how it turns out. you have the slight advantage in power but i think i would be more aggressive at the wheel and i think the brembo's are better brakes then you have so i could brake later. :driving:

ohh i think you will be surprised my friend.

depends on the driver and the type of track. if it has long straights etc the z will take it easily. but if it is a heavy breaking track with sharp turns i have a feeling the brembos and the harder suspension in the gen coupe will play a roll.

XwChriswX 11-03-2009 12:15 PM

You're getting colder.

Come to think of it. Insecure and bitter almost perfectly describes someone who makes up a test-drive crash in a Z and makes up driving a Porsche that's owned by an imaginary girlfriend...all for attention.

I'm a car enthusiast (which I think is safe to say most of us here are car enthusiast first, Z enthusaust 2nd), which can find the good in pretty much any car (within reason). While the genesis didn't catch my eye for more than a few mins, it is a great car for the money and I really hope it sells well and continues to evolve. If it follows the same path from Tiburon->Genesis->?? the next one will kick pretty major ***. I just hope they lose the rear window-droop.

BTW, I like the way the camaro's look on the outside, but that interior turned me off...I even get GM discount but couldn't go for it because of the interior and just how heavy the overall car is. The '69 camaro on the other hand, I'd drive in an instant...I miss the raw feel of cars like that.

That being said...to the OP...:gtfo2:

You came on the forum excited about the Z because you crashed one in a freakin' test drive. You claimed to have a 911 turbo and be a professional driver and never denied it until just now. You are extremely immature for all of the above reasons, and the only constructive post you have on this forum was a review of the Genesis compared to the Z. It's people like you that make anyone reading this forums have to sift through BS just to find useful information.

zZSportZz 11-03-2009 12:35 PM

Well...I must say. In the time that I've been away from this thread in a meeting...its has turned into pure WIN. I didn't make the connection before between the OP and the test drive crash thread.

Yeah, that was the first one I had seen. However, there is a dealership outside my office window that sell them now :) I like the car, I don't think they look half bad. I just can't get past the manufacturer. If the 370z was badged as a Hyundai, I wouldn't have bought it. They signify cheap in my warped little brain. Like I said, I'm not saying its right......because they could make the best car ever created and I would miss out on it.
