Wrong vin for model?

i was looking at this 2011 370z touring. The guy said that the vin number shows up as a nismo instead of touring. Is it possible? Wouldn't that affect the car insurance and I have to go through the dmv to change it?. Thanks! I also haven't check the tittle paper work with the car vin yet, but I will before buying it.

mishuko 08-27-2015 07:11 AM

if the guy still has his OEM windshield there is a little peep area on the bottom section driver of the windshield that will show the VIN without having to step into the car.

TeratoZ 08-27-2015 09:12 AM

I understand about matching the vin of the car with the tittle but, does it matter if the model showed up as a nismo instead of touring?

enguyen88 08-27-2015 10:41 AM

if he's selling a nismo at a touring price, buy it!

2009_370z 08-27-2015 10:44 AM

And if he's selling a touring with the Nismo price :ugh2:

Then what? Lol.

Memphis370Z 08-27-2015 12:23 PM

If you have it, post the VIN and it can be run though a VIN decoder that a member posted several years ago. Can't find the link at the moment, but I'll get it for you.

I ran the VIN through Carfax and it shows an accident history in 2013 (between Jul-Sept) with airbag deployment. It looks like it has had three owners so far (accident with owner 2). The damage was listed as moderate to severe with damage done to left front. Carfax also has it listed as a touring/Nismo.

TeratoZ 08-27-2015 03:05 PM

Dam, they say the title is clean

TeratoZ 08-27-2015 03:07 PM

So No deal then?? Thanks shukotuz! Forgot to check carfax... How did u check carfax w/o paying for it? Lol

ShutokuZ 08-27-2015 03:10 PM

Carfax does show it as clean, so that probably means that it was never reported to the ins company as damaged, and paid out of pocket or cash given from the other party.

TeratoZ 08-27-2015 03:15 PM

Sucks, I was going to get it by tonight too. Good thing i check with the forum members.

Merv 08-27-2015 06:38 PM

Take it for a test drive and if it drives great, take it to get inspected by a mechanic. If he sais it's solid, use that accident as a bargaining chip! If you were to buy it and keep it for like 5 years,by that time the accident won't effect the re sail. I know some people have to have a used car that's never been in an accident, but if it drives like new, then what are you really missing out on? But if he's asking for a non accident price tag for a vehicle that's been in an accident and won't budge, say see Ya later!

TeratoZ 08-28-2015 12:14 AM

Right

TeratoZ 08-28-2015 12:33 AM

What should I offer him if the mechanic said everything is good? 15K? Also should I take it to a Nissan mechanic or doesn't matter? Lol sorry I'm new

How many miles? Does it look clean?(interiors good,no dash scratches, rips, curb marks on rims, scratches in paint, clean under the hood. Etc..) too many variables. I would check the car out first. If you Haven't really car shopped before, bring somebody with you who has some experience doing so. As for price, find out what the book value is for the shape its in and miles on odometer, than knock off a couple grand. Just make sure to mention that it's been in an accident. Typically people ask about 1000 more than what they think the car is worth, hoping to get what they want,or settle for a little less. What are they asking for?

Merv 08-28-2015 07:46 AM

Don't take it to a dealership. Any reputable mechanic would be fine. But only do it if your serious about the car,and he's willing to budge in price. Otherwise you'll be wasting money on an inspection.

TeratoZ 08-28-2015 09:06 AM

They're selling for 25k$ I offered 23k when I didn't know about the accident. Got custom pain and staggered wheels, reverse cam,25k mile, touring edition. In side and out side looks good. Kbb 22k fair price, but with accidental airbag deployement I might be asking 19k or 20k for it, that should be reasonable right?

Fuzzzy 08-28-2015 09:34 AM

They tried to sell you a car without disclosing that it had been damaged.

If I were going to make them an offer at all, I would low-ball the crap out of it and be prepared to walk without a screaming deal.

TeratoZ 08-28-2015 09:49 AM

Are we talking about 17k$ or should I go lower? Lol

mishuko 08-28-2015 09:49 AM

they didnt disclose the accident? well i'd throw 19 at them. settle for 20. OR

spend a few extra grand to get a non-damaged z.

not doubting mechanics but once in an accident things will start rattling, buzzing, moving, breaking.

TeratoZ 08-28-2015 09:54 AM

What year is your Z? The production statistic look-up tool only goes through July of 2013, and when I searched for your VIN, nothing was found.

Here's the link to the tool that a user named Vince created - Nissan 370Z Production Statistics
