On a scale of 1 to hell naw, how pissed off should I be?

Hello everyone. I live in dallas TX and purchased my car back in may. It is now august 18th and I still do not have my plates. Every time I call I am told that texas is behind in plates and everyone is waiting. I find that hard to believe because I have had 4 other co workers purchase cars after me and they all have their plates.

If the state of texas is behind, how does everyone else get their plates who purchased their cars after me get their plates before me? I have called twice, both times I am told behind and everyone is waiting. Go to the stealership today to receive my second extension, request a manager only for him to give me the same nonsense. Now I don't know how the process works as I do not work for the state nor a stealership but I feel like somebody is bullsh**in.

How is this the only place with the issue? At this point I'm think I'm going to write a very long letter to corporate (as the buying experience as a whole was completely botched) but I wanted to know everyone else's thoughts. How the hell do I get my damn plates? Thanks guys, and hopefully I didn't come off too incoherent because I am furious.

I bought a car July 3rd, and got my plates in 3 weeks including them being mailed to my house.

who cares. i drove without plates for a year. least you'll never get a red light/camera ticket.

Is it really worth getting that upset about? Sure, it might be an inconvenience to go in every month or two for the extension. But how many times have you had to do this? 3 times? I would try not to let it stress you out.

That being said... ask for the manager's boss next time. If they say he's not there, ask for his boss. If they say none of them are there, ask to make an appointment to speak with their boss(es) in person at the dealership. Hopefully someone in that chain should be able to help you more than "Texas is behind on license plates". Because I'm sure that's just some :bs: We just bought my wife a brand new Accord at the end of July, and I just got a call that the plates came in yesterday :twocents:

I wouldn't stress it.

You're all right. I think its time for a cold beer. I'll just keep playing the waiting game.

I would call the Texas DMV (888-368-4689). Give them your VIN and purchase date, they should be able to give you the correct answer. No way it should take that long to get your first set of "general plates". (All my vehicles have always been registered in Tejas. In thirty-plus years, it has never taken longer than four weeks to get my tags.)

Good Luck, Tim

OP: Take a pildora frio. No big deal. More important things to worry about.

It depends on the county you purchased the vehicle in, some are much slower then others. At least that's what I was told by county clerk when I called about same problem earlier this year

OP: Is it a used or new car?

I bought my used car last November and the dealer said my plates would come in a few weeks. Months past and I was worrying like you. I checked online and looked at the possible reasons.

Do you have a dealership license plate in place of where your plates should be?
Mine were actually behind it THE WHOLE TIME.

See how in the front of my car, it has a Century Auto plate. It was behind it so check yours if you have the same thing. That's why mine NEVER came because it was on the car already.

It happens. When my GF leased her Legacy last year, it took over two months to get her plates. She had to go back to the dealer three times. Then I leased my Legacy, and it took about two weeks to get my plates. Go figure.

This is in NY, by the way.

It says he drives a 2015, so I'm guessing it's not used (although possible).

But that is ridiculous. What a stupid fuckin dealer :shakes head:

I work in Arkansas, Georgia and Minnesota.

I rarely go to Texas.

That is all.
