Advice from those over 100k miles

So the Z is at 99k and I'm having some second thoughts going forward. It's always been properly maintained and outside of a failed CSC 1000 miles ago I've had zero issues since buying it in 2010. I took the opportunity to replace clutch kit and master cylinder while I was at it. The car is bone stock and on the next oil change I will be swapping the gear oil on the differential and replacing spark plugs. Belt still looks good.

I am currently debating on keeping the car for another couple of years or selling it and buying a new 2015 ride with warranty for piece of mind. For those of you who have driven the car from 100k miles onwards please chime in and let me know what issues, if any, you have had. I'd love to keep the car if repair costs can be minimized to maintenance items only. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Z's reliability.
Thanks in advance.

Would love to hear from others also. Since this is my daily driver would like to see what to expect. I'm already starting to put money away anyways for those just in case things that will happen.

The advice from a family of car dealership owners/salesman is to sell the car now and buy a new one. Unless its a 40th then maybe not but even i have mileage limits. Mine is at 46k now and we will see how I feel around 70k. After 100k unfortunately most values decline dramatically. Depends on how you look at it from an investment standpoint..

I am not ever going to sell mine. I have driven a many a Z to the high mileage range of 160K to 300K. What you should expect is the water pump to go around 120-140K. Next would be alternator, and then the starter. Drivers side window motor some where in the mix maybe. Only one guy on here has that kind of mileage. He has had minimal issues. Look for the mileage thread.

Oops, I left off the CSC replacements. I think the guy at 200k had 3 replaced. By the way, paid for is good.

You can expect a few repairs for sure, but if you take care of the car you really shouldn't have to spend a lot of money on it. Some things are more likely to fail than others. I would just set aside some money for whatever happens so you can fix is asap.

Here is the thread Spooler was referring to: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...000-miles.html

Thanks for the thread. Wow, 300k miles.

Thanks Jarblue. That's actually not too bad for over 200k.

As a few guys have mentioned, i'm well over 100k miles. rolled 225k the other day. Since the last CSC about 45-50k miles ago no other problems. Still on original starter, Alt. Hell i'm still on the original battery! LOL Other then the CSC there hasn't been anything other then the regular maintenance time stuff. With my next oil change i'll be doing a oil sample for blackstone, forgot with the last change, but I don't for see any problems there either. As long as you keep up on the normal maintenance you should be good.

Things I would do now if I was planning to keep the car another year...suspension, it's a little sacked out at this point. As well replace the rad...mine has taken a beating, not sure how much air really gets through it now, but that's due to hitting a LOT of bugs. lol

Oh and paint! winter driving in Canada has taken a bit of a toll on the car.

If you have any questions, just pm me.

Curious how your transmissions are holding up aside from CSC issues. Any synchro issues or gear grinds?

Aizen Sosuke 07-20-2015 08:59 AM

No issues from my transmission at all. 2nd gear was getting a little notchy right before the CSC failure. When I swapped out the stock clutch it still had a good 20-30k miles left but I wasn't going to drop the transmission again so I replaced it with the southbend street clutch kit. I replaced the gear oil with some mobile 1 and shifts are as good as day 1.

Mine has been good otherwise...Redline oil change every 60,000 miles.

NismoNY 07-20-2015 10:47 AM

That's good to hear. You hear a lot of synchro issues on this forum and it's good to know this is a transmission that can last if taken care of.

really? ive not read much about a syncro related issue in a while.

i only remember reading one guy that posted he had a defective syncro going 5th back like 5-6yrs ago..

njobe89 07-20-2015 11:53 AM

when reading that people replace their csc multiple times, why not go with the z speed csc?

the highest mileage car i owned was my rsx-s at 104,xxx and it had no problems.

my dad has a 99 toyota rav 4 with 250,000 miles and it's still going. he changed the oil ever 2,500-3,000 miles.

i personally think how much you take care of your car is how much it will take care of you.

kenchan 07-20-2015 11:58 AM

yah, if mine ever goes out while i own my 17k mile 09, i would get the one with the external slave cylinder like the one mr.jar haz.
then i could fix it on my own.
