Tommy Kaira?

I guess I don't get it, can someone please explain why people are spending $250+ for a shift knob

It has been discontinued, therefore it is rare and it's JDM, and it is a well designed weighted knob.

It's like asking why do people pay $4500 for an authentic Amuse kit.

The same reason why you would spend ~30-40k on a 370Z.

because the specter is a better knob.

Same reason I would gladly pay 300-400 for a Zele shift knob if it ever comes up for grab.

I got one, love it.

TK knob is rare, but not that rare as an ARC or TS oil cap. However, I think in a few years, it will be as rare.

Great JDM pieces. You can easily resell them, so why not shell out $250 for a knob?

I have mine for the turtle. Plus it has an excellent feel and perfect weight.

That's four date nights I'd have to give up.

Btw, DE offered me the TK knob but I know it would be a pia to take out the one I have now. It is pretty much stuck with the amount of red stuff I put in there. I do remember telling him, I'd rather spend my money on other parts though. It was a time when my diff bushings went squirt.

Then there's no reason other than " because you want to ". To each his own, your money so do what you like with it. OP, I don't get it either, but it's obvious that it's not meant for us to get.

Exactly. I'm also onboard the "I don't get it either" train. Who the hell is Tommy Kaira? Why is ANY shift knob not made from 14th century Spanish gold worth $250+? And if it's due to rarity, what does that mean mine's worth, since it's the only one in existence?:roflpuke2:

Some people like rocking name brands...

I remember when I was a young buck asking my brother why he wore Tommy Hilfiger socks. He replied with some asinine comment about wearing whatever he wanted to because he could afford it. Didn't make sense when I was 14, doesn't make sense to me now.

There are definitely other quality, weighted, stylish shift knob options out there.

speedfreek 06-08-2015 08:28 AM

There are many different reasons one can associate as to why someone wants this particular shift knob.

But I believe the most direct answer is that said person who would pay the cost of ownership because they simply are a fan of Tommy Kaira's products and/or they like the way it makes them feel when they hold his knob.....ok I am going to stop there :wtf2:
