The Club, is it worth it?

So I'm not sure how much they upgraded the systems, but for a 2014 model would you put a club or not really needed? Thanks!

littlejuanito 04-23-2015 05:33 PM

I don't think it's worth it with this car, or any other car for that matter, as the steering wheel can be cut with a hacksaw

MR.nismo 04-23-2015 05:41 PM

If you are referring to anti-theft system and seen that you live in Brooklyn I would put anything I can get my hands on. At least the club is visible and It might deter someone unless they are so desperate to steal a Z. But remember that no system is totally 100% secure and there are always ways of deactivating/disabling anything.
To me the best system is a garage (a home garage) not a public garage, and even inside my garage I lock the vehicle. Read these two and might give an idea of what thief are looking for when selecting a target vehicle. Good luck.

Great videos Mr. Nismo, you're right if I get a club, at the very least it's a good visual deterrent.

kenchan 04-23-2015 06:35 PM

i hear you can put 2 bags of clubs in there.. :ugh:

vividracing 04-23-2015 06:50 PM

The Club basically is a visual deterrent only. If someone really wanted your car they can just cut the steering wheel.

The thing about cars these days though is the technology is getting to a point where you can't hotwire a car, the computer won't let the engine start without the key, and if it's a push button start, it's practically impossible without the keyfob. What you can do is get a flatbed truck and just drag it away, the alarm blaring and all.

A push button start is a nightmare to a thief.

I once had a version of the club in the one that connects to your brake pedal. You may start the car but you can't get it out of park without pressing the brake, and yea the brake pedal is by law made out of steel and the position of the brake lock is awkward to a thief, you are super exposed having the door open and you sticking out to try and get it free.

Never had an attempted theft but then again it was a cheap Chevy Aveo so even I wouldn't steal it haha. My BRZ has push button so no anti theft device necessary.

when I visited England my cousin had a device that went over the parking brake and locked on to the shifter. It looked difficult to defeat, and was a visual deterent.

Once saw a 60 Minutes type "car thief" show and they had the club off in 20 seconds...no joke!

ajm216 04-23-2015 08:38 PM

I tell my female friends not to lock their clubs for two reasons.

1. You can get in your car and drive away more quickly if you are not feeling safe.

2. If someone wants steal your car they will already have away to defeat the club if it were locked.

TreeSemdyZee 04-23-2015 08:44 PM

The Club is good for only one thing. Clubbing someone that is trying to steal your car.
Don't waste your money.

Sorry x2, but it was funny

DOOMMONKEY777 04-23-2015 10:20 PM

I wouldn't worry about car theft here, in bk, but i did have my wheels stolen, window broken x2, hit and run, and a bunch of times scratch, hit.

Soooo.....that club is useless really.

Yes,yes you can :happydance:

enkei2k 04-23-2015 10:24 PM

I have one. I put it on occasionally if I park in places I'm not familiar with, or parking lots.

Rest of the time, I just keep it there in case some $#!+ breaks out and I need a weapon of some sort :wtf2:

AngelNismo 04-24-2015 07:10 AM

I also heard LoJack is pretty good, expensive as hell though.

6MT-Z34 04-24-2015 07:25 AM

Correct me if im wrong but if you have an automatic car, maybe get a viper alarm system on it with auto start and also a blackvue 2 way channel camera...I don't have the viper alarm but i do have the camera on my car and it does give you a piece of mind, also, you can set it to record even after you shut the car off for XX hours or if the voltage on your battery drops below whatever you set it to...so it will not kill your battery

zmanelite 04-24-2015 09:21 AM

Get something like this instead
Use it over brake/clutch pedal as they cant depress brake to start car

The Club, ha!

The Club lock can be picked by an amateur. Check out the FJM Security Products, HS7100 Silver Steering Wheel Lock. A REAL lock.

Most thieves wouldn't steal a manual, so that itself is an anti theft device.

kenchan 04-24-2015 11:45 AM

my pops-in-law said the same thing long time ago when he saw that all my cars were MT. :icon17:

kenchan 04-24-2015 11:46 AM

You'd look like some crazy weird homeless guy carrying a steering wheel around the mall.

From first hand experience and being from the car theft capitol on the planet back then for 20 years straight of Newark, NJ. The club is useless and I've seen a guy steal a RX-7 where the owner had taken off the steering wheel, but the thief drove the car away with a pair of grip pliers. The only thing that ever worked for me is the Kraco Nightstick and that has to be used a certain was for it to be useful. Don't leave it in an upward position like advertised, you need to put it on and turn the steering wheel until it locks and the nightstick is dam near touching the floor and with the keyhole on the back facing the dash, this way there is no way to stick a snatch bar in it and rip the keyhole out like they do the club. I had my BMW broken into, started up and the steering wheel bent like pretzel trying to get this dam thing off, but the car was never stolen. I came downstairs, they left the dam car running all night, broken window, ignition ripped out and the last man standing was my nightstick that I still have to this very day and this was in 1991 and I've used it on everything up until I left that Wasteland in 2002. If a professional car thief wants your car, he'll get it, but like someone else said, put everything possible on it, Nightstick, alarm, kill switch, E-brake lock, pedal lock and a Boot, put it all on there at the same time and make these lazy, jobless pieces of shiit really have to bust there azz if they want your car.
