I have owned 7 mustangs.

Yes they are faster, they also can't touch the feel of a dedicated 2 seater. And they creek, rattle, thud, grind, etc. They are over 500lbs heavier. When you own one it seems people hate you. Resale on them is terrible unless its a shelby.

Camaro: The seating position and driving ergomics are gawd awful. The trunk is a porthole and could possibly be even worse than a Z in some ways. Its also over 500lbs heavier and seems to draw hate everywhere. GM seems to have recalls constantly and ford isn't far behind.

The back seats in both really arent back seats. The exterior of new models in both look great at first and then seem to become passe' about 18 months after being released.

What im saying here is calm down.....at any given time a mustang is faster, or a camaro or sometimes something else. The Z isnt as slow as i thought it was, and its ok for it not to be rated the fastest.

All i wanted for the S550 was for it to have IRS and be lighter....it ended up GAINING 200lbs and actually ending up slower than the 13s and 14s but everybody loves it because it now has a new look, some added features and IRS. Its also just as heavy as a camaro now.

Unless you get the track pack, it rolls like a boat. If you get the track pack, the suspension is hardened and starts to beat you up again. If you drive an auto but want the bigger brakes, tighter suspension and summer rubber....tough luck, it can't be optioned that way. If you want the nav, leather seats and high end stero, you are going to end up paying about $44,000. To this day, chinese made MT82 transmission in the manual version sucks. They are also the cars you drive an unwittingly get lumped in as the car owner who "doesnt know better/is stuck in his high school glory days/should have a mullet" and worse.

Yes we can leverage a bunch of insults at the Z but the grass isnt always greener. Ive had big over powered cars and now im gravitating towards smaller cars with better balance.

YMMV

Unless I am misunderstanding something about the system (which is always possible), its just another form of NVH control. It's an electronic "resonator" or "muffler" rather than a mechanical one. It's not a synthesizer or something.

If it can be programmed to make the engine sound like a cat meowing or a horse whinnying, then okay, it's a sound effects generator machine, and that is lame/silly/potentially hilarious.

If it's a noise canceler/harmonics enhancer then, at worst, it's an electronic acoustic tuner, enabling you to play with the tone via keyboard rather than mechanical valving, not really any different from fly-by-wire, EFI, or any number of electronic devices that have replaced the service of strictly mechanical ones.

Really, now, if you could hit a button that cancels out guttural rasps when you change the piping rather than have to experiment with welding on new metal resonators, what's the problem?

I'll give you more details on how this ASE works in the next few days when I get the time to mess around with it. Yesterday, the dealer finally got the Z I ordered last year :P Was supposed to be a 15 but the PW was out of production for that year model so I had to wait for a 16 PW instead. I'm picking her up today :D I'll get back to you guys on this.

they have the middle-aged baldy mod. those put extra throttle voltage beyond our recognition.

What did you say?!? Electronic Sound what?!? Huh?!?

Shoot, I can't hear a damn thing coming through the speakers over my FI exhaust...I hope I'm not missing something important....

NVM the fuel starve issue, let's install a synthesizer!

mishuko 04-14-2015 12:36 PM

at the rate this is going they will smoothen out the car and then add a small motor to the shifter to simulate the feedback/vibrations

Powerwiz 04-15-2015 03:45 AM

Many makers are using this. Ford, BMW to name a few.

Nissan has its priorities in order. Fix the unreliable CSC or terrible fuel pickup design? Nah, active sound!

It is definitely a growing trend within the industry to move to pumping sound through the stereo, but c'mon. There are more important things to focus on on a "sports car."

I'm not for or against fake sound, by the way. I just think Nissan's handling of the Z since launch has been somewhat comical.

Yeah, save that tech for family friendly hot hatches..

Sports cars need NATURAL sound.
