Well guys been a while since I have posted up since I traded my Z. I purchased a 15 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack and let me tell you the domestics have upped thier game.
Bone stock I have run an 11.90@118. All I can say is stay at the race tracks with corners in them and dont race any of them at the drag strip. You will be beat badly. |

Ha ha. No mullet here guys. My 60fts are 1.7 to 1.9 and I have to run slicks to get it to stick. Its rated at 485hp and 475 ft lbs of torque off the show room floor. I have only added a K&N Typhoon to the car and thats it. Then of course the next model up and thats the Hellcat and holy bejesus those cars hit low 11's or high 10's stock.
I sure do miss my Z at times but with the power, comfort, and room you cant beat it. If handling isnt a big issue for you check one of them out. Once you test drive one its all over and you more than likely drive it home. Im very pleased with my Scat Pack. She is a big girl tho. |

Some guys on the Dodge forum claiming low 10's with slicks in the Hellcat. Like real low-10.1 at 139+ |
On Motor Trend's Ignition series, Carlos Lago clocked a 2012 sports package with stock tires with a manual transmission at 4.8s. I think it's just hard to replicate in the manual Z due to the transmission.

Here is a video of me and my Scat Pack running a 12 flat on drag radials. That little STI awd wagon got :owned:
https://youtu.be/XA5mTPiS5aA Back in 09 when the 370 came out it was whooping the pony cars pretty easily. Fast forward seven years and its not the case. I was waiting for the next gen Z with better performance but it looks like Nissan has lost sight on it focusing more on the GTR. I would love to see the Z up their game and would be hilarious beating a pony car. Definitely a different kind of crowd to be around for sure especially these Mopar nuts but in reality I love all sports cars and the Z was a gem of a car. I just got tired of falling in, climbing out, banging my head, and road noise. Getting older didnt help matters either!:roflpuke2: |

Yes sir just posting specs is all in comparison to the heavyweight Challenger. I never said it would hang with the Z in which I do know it cant on a tight course.
Im not here to start a heated topic but the pony cars in overall performance far exceeds the Z. It needs to be updated badly. I will bow out and move on. You guys take care and I had a great time being a part of this forum. |

I can't speak for the challenger, although, I assume nothing has changed with it since it was re-released. It is heavy and wasn't made to handle, but there might be some variants of it better suited than others. I've heard the new Charger is nothing to laugh at. Call it bench racing all you want, but the American automakers have realized what it takes to be competitive these days and they are building some impressive cars. |

The new Mustang is a great car, I'm happy Ford finally decided to try putting a modern suspension under their sports coupe, they did a great job with it. It's pretty soft and cushy when you push it, though, and the steering is still a lot slower than I'd like to see in a proper sports coupe. I could live with the steering, and I suppose springs/struts and sway bars aren't an outrageous thought. Plus, unlike the Z, the stability assistance actually lets you have a little fun before it goes into full nanny mode. The transmission shifs nicely, the Coyote V8 sounds sweet at redline, pedal position is great for heel-and-toe, it's actually a really good driver's car. I have not driven a Camaro but I would like to, and I would probably buy one if the legendary visibility issues are really no worse than the Z. As for the Dodge... No thanks. The quality issues are more than enough to make me not even care if they did handle, and the skidpad number doesn't tell you much at all about how the car handles at all. Enjoy your car, and I will enjoy mine. :tiphat: |
Wow. Piece of garbage? Rough crowd here as expected.
You better hope you are on a tight course or road there Mr. Davey because you will get your *** handed to you if a Scat Pack even considered to play with you even with a 1000 lb disadvantage Yea, thats how I see a Z now. Adequate at best with 9 year old technology so my advice to you is get a GTR. Nissan has done little to nothing for the Z and it shows. Enjoy driving a car that once was phenomenal but left behind |
I would agree that the American performance game is very strong right now. With the latest generation of Camaro and Mustang, they have done a good job of dropping weight and adding power, helping the pony cars handle much better. The Challenger still seems to fight on with brute force and ignorance.
My last track event, I set up in between a guy with a Hellcat Challenger and a guy with a new Camaro SS. They said they felt like they were fighting their cars keeping them on the track the whole time. They said the only time they were enjoying it was on the straight. They both left early because they said it wasn't very fun for them. Meanwhile, my Z went exactly where I wanted it, and my instructor said that everything I did looked smooth and easy. After riding with him in his Mustang, I understood. He had to throw it in the corners and wrestle with it to get it to go where he wanted. I test drove a 15 Camaro SS, a 15 Mustang GT, and a 15 Challenger SRT-8 before I bought my Z. I've always been a Z fan starting with my 77 280Z, and fell in love all over again with the Z33 and 34, but I knew they were down on power compared to the American pony cars, so I gave them all a shot. Camaro, felt cramped in the interior, car felt big and heavy, power was great. Interior quality felt sub par, and the exterior looks were Ok, not great. Mustang, interior felt good and comfortable, car felt more nimble and precise than the Camaro, power was good, and quality was much better than the Camaro. I thought it looked a lot better than the Camaro also. Challenger, interior felt huge and comfortable, car felt very big and heavy, power was great, interior quality was about the same as the Chevy. I like the looks of the Challenger. Z, small but comfortable interior, handling felt very precise, better than the pony cars, power was adequate, and interior quality was WAY better than the Americans. The Z is one of the sexiest cars on the road, IMHO. The Z is not the fastest car in the world, but ultimate performance is not what I was after when I bought it. I love the style of it, love the layout and feel of the interior, love the handling and performance. The Z was a better car overall for me, because I was looking for a car I could autocross and do HPDEs in. If I was looking for something to drag race, I would have gone American. But it is kind of nice not seeing a Z everywhere, unlike the pony cars.:happydance: TL, DR: I drove the American pony cars before buying my Z, but they were not what I was looking for. |

You sound a little upset. I would be too, if I had bought a Chrysler. :tiphat: |
These brand comparison d**k-measuring threads are always the same, unfold the same, end the same.
|
This whole thread was revived to brag about the 1/4 miles times of the Scat pack?
Agree it's quick, but if I was in the market for a Chrysler SUV, I think I'd get the Jeep SRT8 over the Challenger |
Actually it was revived by a guy who used to take his Z to the drag strip regularly giving his impressions of his new car in comparison.
Tadpole, I'm still interested in making it out sometime. If you're still out there, I'll make the effort. I'll text you after I get some repairs taken care of in a few weeks :tiphat: :driving: |
Fair enough.
But let's be real here, in regards to the comment above, the Challenger is not the epitome of technological advancement, it's just as outdated as a Z. It's advantage is that Chrysler keeps updating it with gigantic engines. |

I'd also like to note that I'm not trying to talk **** about the Challenger, just being real as it's just as dated as a Z.
I do think it's a boat, but so does the rest of the world. There's a guy I talk to regularly at C&C that has an SRT8 with coilovers and a bunch of other suspension mods, intake and cat back and I think the car is great! Sounds wonderful |

I should point out I'm not trying to defend Dodge by any means. I know a Jeep SRT8 that threw a rod with less than 2K miles on the car, and the dealership tried to deny warranty coverage :icon14:

I don't really care really since my Z is for sale and I'm not a fan of any of the three said cars. Really I'm just bored and kicking up dust until my flight this afternoon :D |

I'd be pissed! I really like the SRT8 Jeep. |
Oh he was livid. But once he started explaining the story that it was his wife's DD and she drives like a grandma and it happened while STOPPED, they pretty much had no response.
