STOCK... How many of us have them?
STOCK... engines we can depend on.
Who here has or has decided to keep their Z stock? Can you truly enjoy this vehicle to the fullest if left unmodified? Please chime in your pros and cons. |
So being 22 this was the (realistic) car of my dreams and I said I wouldn't touch it. A few months in a have a complete exhaust system. And a dozen other cheap mods and I'm only getting started. The fact you signed up for a forum shows you have interest in modding. Just do iiiiit.

With that said, can this Z be left untouched and still have fun with it? |
I mean it's still a sports car. And fun is opinionated. Depends on what you would like to do for "fun"
|
You won't be drifting. Or racing. Daily driving Is still enjoyable. But modding is half of w.e fun you look for so....

What fun is stock????????

I had my 2012 sport for 3 years, stock; now I drive a 2015 sport, stock. Each one was/is plenty enough fun for this old man (64).
For extra kicks via mods, I ride a 2003 Harley-Davidson SuperGlide with 147,000 miles, 95" big bore kit, high compression heads, .510" lift Anderson TW37 gear drive cams, 42mm Mukuni flat slide carburetor, Cycle Shack high flow mufflers, RNK Billet high flow air intake, and Daytona TwinTech programmable ignition. BTW, this bike still uses the original drive belt, original clutch, and original primary chain, and the bottom end and transmission have never needed servicing except for oil changes. |
Nope. Not if you count a oil cooler as a mod
|
I have a 40th anny. And plan to do only minimal mods. Illuminated kick plates, stillen exhaust and tint will probably be the extent of the mods I do. Also, it really bothers me when I see other 40th models highly modded. Why not just buy a sport model if you're going to completely change the integrity of the anniversary model to the point you can't tell its an anniversary outside of badges and red interior? Just my opinion

I planned on keeping mine stock but after reading some of the exhaust and intake mods which seem very easy I am leaning more to the (light mod) side. The real thing that keeps pushing me is the youtube videos showing the installs and the great sounds. Not only the sounds but the HP increase you get makes it fun to do.
|
I put a Z emblem on front in place of the NISSAN badge.
Not even doing K&Ns. The only real mod was at 16k replacing the stock Bridgestones for Michelin Pilot AS/3s... now I can actually hear the exhaust! |
Mine still stock, but the intakes, exhausts, and carbon add ons to the exterior are tempting me on a daily basis! I've added the fujimura rear diffuser so far...
|
I never touch nothing until the warranty is over. 350 hp is plenty when you can disable the nanny ****. I have a 2015 5.0 Genesis and its useless I cant shut anything off. That's why you should buy this z and not wait for the next it will have 400hp and no fun. Mac

I bought a 2013 Sports/ touring /Navi/ Bose 6 speed Z, would I like to mod it to make it sound different because really a CAI/ Exhaust will add a few ponies that you will not be able to tell the difference while driving but sure will make you engine bay pretty and your rear end even cuter :driving:, so on that note my Z is staying stock for now (unless you count the winter rims and tires I bought as a mod...:rofl2:)

those modded 40ths that you saw probably was purchased by the owners back in 2010/2011. I once told myself not to change anything to my 40th until one day we had a 40th AE meeting and there were 8 of us showed up! Suddenly deep inside your heart you know your is car is no longer "unique". One 40th owner I know personally is KarotZ who is really passionate about modding his car and he has won many awards. I have big respect for those guys for their hard work and passion. |

Stock what is this....I made a promise to myself that I would never ride stock.

Pros: -if the mods are done right, it could be beneficial for your car. Cons: -as modified performance goes up, reliability goes down. -when it comes time to trade in your car, anything aftermarket will reduce the value of your car. -certain mods can actually hurt your car's reliability AND performance, despite what the aftermarket companies claim. |

OP I say its possible to enjoy the car stock, mods aren't a necessity. |
Bought my 2014 new white touring + sports package 6MT on dec 12th. Now it has 1800 miles , dam snow. only thing i wanted to do with my car was exhaust and intake. BAM, i got motor dyne cat back exhaust with 5 inch blue tips (stock cats) + stillen g3 cold air intake. these 2 mods will do no hard what so ever to your car and you will still have you're warranty. I'm not trying to void my warranty also. Nothing else I'm touching performance wise.

Nothing wrong with being stock. But I challenge you if you keep on being on the forum more often one way or another you cant avoid the itch of modding your Z.
So my advice stop viewing the for sale section. My 2 cents. |

I picked up mine at the end of Aug. 2014. Still stock as of today though the F.I. CBE waiting to go on is going to change that.
|
I'm stock (no tats) and so is my Z. It's perfect the way it is. My old Z32 was perfect stock also.

When I feel the need for major engine modifications then it is my time to buy another car.
|
Mine is stock except for audio. I'd rather wake my neighbors with my stereo than my pipes.
|
I purchased my 2014 touring/sport/nav 12/30/13. Enough fund for an old person 68.
:tiphat: |
I will have a supercharger and an exhaust installed in 3 months after I make my last payment. The main reason is that in Colorado we lose about 15 percent power from the high altitude and I suspect the heat issues are exacerbated since engines work that much harder here. Zs are relatively rare here as well and I have fallen in love with it, so my going boosted is more of a refresh than a desire for insane power.

Does the parts in garage counts ?haha

mine's stock except for a few cosmetic changes... and i plan to keep it that way... LOVE my z the way it is... that's why i bought it
|
2013 Touring/Sport 6M stock. Sadly, only 1900 miles on it.
|
Yes, stock does the trick. 350 hp is not so much compared to what we can find at anytime on the road but at the same time 350 hp is enough to get you in serious trouble. If your intentions are for street race, then you are starting on the wrong place at the wrong time. If you want to do the occasional track day or SCCA event, then is more than enough unless you happen to be an experienced and professional road racer/driver. If you want to drive along and be left alone then you are in the right track.
To me, since I have done my fair share of everything in life, at this point a stock nismo is ok. I bought it for the looks of the car and it already has some "goodies". |
Stock is if you don't boost. Boost is the ultimate mod. I AM STOCK.
