Speeding 370z driver skewered by guard rail in Irving, TX.

"The man was driving around 100 mph and may have been drunk when he lost control of his car on northbound 161 near Belt Line Road around 3:15 a.m. Thursday."

"When his car hit the guard rail, it impaled his car as it came up underneath the floor board behind the driver's wheel well." :icon14:

Guardrail spears through sports car in Irving

RonRizz 01-31-2015 05:48 PM

Holy SH#@. nothing else to say except perhaps I would probably like to impale miss hernandez.

kenchan 01-31-2015 05:49 PM

yah, ms.pint+1 posted that link somewhere few days ago.

mishuko 01-31-2015 05:50 PM

So you're telling me if I drive 100mph and hit a guard rail it could puncture thru the car?

Plus he was drunk?

I hope it wasn't a member here but he deserved it. And I'm glad it was a single car accident and that wasn't another vehicle he decided to swap some paint with.

kenchan 01-31-2015 05:54 PM

This post is hidden because the kenchan is on your ignore list.

Jordo! 01-31-2015 06:30 PM

Ouch.

Spooler 01-31-2015 07:47 PM

There is a big investigation going on about one companies guardrails being unsafe. When a car hits it, it doesn't crumple, it goes through the car.

kenchan 01-31-2015 07:52 PM

Yah but the last time I hit a rail was never..

Ah, no, he didn't deserve it. But given the condition he was in at the time, it's not surprising he was in a crash. Good thing he's the only one who was injured.

Duc_Z09 01-31-2015 09:02 PM

I'd say he deserved to f*ck his car up, but not almost get killed. Either way I doubt he'll be doing anything that stupid ever again.

I wouldn't go that far... :)

DjSquall 02-01-2015 10:59 AM

Karma level: guardrail.

takjak2 02-01-2015 08:05 PM

Should have gotten a sport model.

Amazing that he lived considering where that guardrail is sitting.

Got_Z 02-01-2015 08:10 PM

I wonder if he'll still do a part out...

SouthArk370Z 02-01-2015 09:54 PM

I'm not sure he deserves what he got, but, if he was DUI and driving like an idiot, I'd have a hard time arguing against it.

NeoRacer 02-03-2015 10:24 AM

At least the idiot didn't take out a family of 4. Deserved what he got.

has it been proven he was drunk?

the article says "awaiting toxicology reports".

ever think someone can be driving that late and not be drunk? dude could be working a night shift or something.

don't jump to "he deserved it" nonsense already.

yea I get it that drunk driving is a terrible thing and hurting others is the biggest concern with it. I guarantee there's people who will say something negative and forget that they probably have had a drink or a few and driven home not knowing if they were close or even oh dear....over the limit.

carmelvalleyZ 02-03-2015 11:05 AM

I'm skeptical that guardrail specs include safely stopping a 3200 pound car going 100 MPH - yeah, its probably supposed to crumple but freak things happen at that speed. He could have been skewered by one of the guardrail posts; would we then be saying that those posts ought to break away in a crash?

You can bet there are some lawyers who will be willing to take the case cause the man was injured due to the guard rail.

rooftop 02-03-2015 11:37 AM

Glad he's ok and learned his lesson. Don't drive fast!

If he does....ill take the guardrail....
hah.

Tigger 02-04-2015 11:55 PM

Guard rails aren't designed to stop a vehicle moving 100mph.

Read the attached article. Don't blame the guard rails for tearing up the car. He shouldn't have been doing 100.

Drunk or not he shouldn't have been going that speed on public roads.

I don't think he deserved this. What he deserved was to have his car taken away and given to someone who's not an idiot, and to have his license revoked.

it's only illegal if you get caught......or in this case, wreck. :stirthepot:

don't act like you've never gone 1mph over the posted limit. that is considered speeding and then you would fall into the same category.

breaking the law is breaking the law whether it's 1mph or 100mph.

so either shut up or :gtfo2:

...except it's really not. That's why you get a bigger fine for 25+ over than for 15 over. It's also why words like "reckless driving" and "mandatory suspension" don't get thrown around for low-speed violations.:shakes head:

doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mi................wait.

regardless, we own a sports car. to say you never will take it to or over 100 means you shouldn't own the car. yes there are tracks but it does happen on the highway. get over it.

Have to agree here. There is no way you can own a sports car without having fun once in a while. Not saying going 100+ on the freeway is always a good idea... Just that you bought this car to enjoy it and that's what he was doing. His luck just ran out.

thank you. :tiphat:

why spend X amount of dollars to not use something.

that's like buying a hooker......just to talk to her.

buying a tv but not turning it on.

etc etc etc.....

I DD my car and on public roads have not gone above 80mph (in a 70 zone). I go a few times a year to a track and get it moving faster than that. It doesn't happen on the highway when I'm driving or riding in a car. Not to mention if I had a major infraction like that I'd have to report it to the state board, who might put me on probation. If I was drunk/DUI and did something stupid like this the state board WOULD put me on probation and the DEA would take away my license.

Yup I own a sports car, not an invulnerability machine . To each their own, I just will probably live longer and pay a lot less in court fines.

I will fully admit that when I was 16 and stupid I got my civic up much faster than I should have on a public road. I didn't wreck or get a ticket or anything but I will not do that again.

Or buying a gun....and not shooting something living?

buying insurance....and not taking stupid risks?

you're not the only one who DD's. aside from the few winter months here I DD mine. i'm sorry but you just sound to lame and old talking about driving the speed limit.

I think it may come down to driving ability. if you're not a good driver then you're scared of high speeds I guess.

side note: you owned a civic.....also a fail.

yes and yes. :tiphat:

love hunting and why am I paying tons of money in insurance to not live my life and do anything exciting?

your logic is just boring. :shakes head:

I don't want to start a e-thread-war

I'm lame. I did have a civic as my first car (I'd call that responsible parenting). I'm actually trying to purchase an early 90s civic for a DD now. Can't argue with 50mpg and trunk space - makes sense to me. But yeah, I guess I'm boring.

You're right, I'm a crap driver and I'm scared to drive a car fast.

makes zero sense to have a Z and not want to drive it fast.

you paid your money do what you want just don't ever tell me that people who do use the car for it's purpose are idiots and deserve to have the car taken away. if you can be lame with yours let the rest of us enjoy ours.

I guess I enjoy my car a different way. Like track days and autocross. (hopefully I'll have our team's 200sx prepped for Rally-X in a month or two). I know, that makes me pretty homosexual I guess.

To Each Their Own.

never said track events/auto x was "homosexual". you went there on your own with that.

my comments were strictly about you downing on someone who pressed their gas on the highway and what followed.

I guess I have to make sure my son's first car is a civic, so I can be a "responsible parent"
