2014 GT-R Wrecked - Back to 370Z

So here is my sob story folks, I HAD a beautiful 2014 Nissan GT-R Black Edition. I say HAD because I was hit and it was totaled on 12/12/2014, just finally got that decision last week  *!~It only had 1,795 Miles on it~!* :-( :crying:
*I'm a Retired 100% Service Connected Disabled Veteran and a Medically Retired GOVT Employee (DEPT of VA-IT Specialist). I have Gulf War Syndrome, a cluster of about 6 Medical problems, and other issues...so I wasn't able/didn't get to drive it nearly as much as I wished...
So now, I'm back to the 370Z, this time a Pearl White 2015 NISMO~! Before the GT-R I had a 2012 Pearl White 370Z (Non-Nismo). I came to the conclusion after this accident that while the GT-R was awesome/perfect/sweet etc., I did not need a $120K NASCAR Auto-SuperCar in my garage, especially with as little as I have been driving. :shakes head:
*If anyone has any advice/tips/tricks/tunes/addons/performance mods-parts etc. for me on my New Car (2015 370Z NISMO) it would be greatly and sincerely appreciated, I have been out of the Z Scene for quite a bit. :bowrofl:
Please see PICS attached, avert your eyes if you don't want to see GTR Hell!
:roflpuke2::eek::mad:

but congrats on the new ride!

break it in and maybe get an intake (takeda / gen3) save some money and get some new sticky tires too!

and if you're really missing the power get a TT :) altho probably won't be as fun or the same as the r

Wow! Glad to hear that you are ok and thank you for your service.

I'd be surprised if the Z brings you that same satisfaction after owning a GT-R and having both in my stable at this time the Z is meh at best. You'll be back in Godzilla before you know it.

Someone hit you on the passenger side? Did he/she come into your lane or pull out in front of you?

JC-Nismo 01-20-2015 11:15 PM

^^^ Exactly, what the heck hit you???

Sad to see such a beautiful car get totaled but glad to see you're ok and have moved on.

Still don't get why you mentioned your military service medical history.

Toyster 01-21-2015 11:26 AM

Thanks very much ALL! I'm still here that's what counts, a car is just a car!

Thanks very much all for your welcome back (I was a premium member previously), your support and especially for the kind words/empathy. Not only about/for the Car but for my Health and Military Service as well, would like to send a salute (and a beer perhaps) ;-) to all of my brothers and sisters on here and everywhere for that matter!

*The reason I mentioned my Military Service and Medical condition(s)/state is to explain the reason for the low miles on the Car, had it for a year+, also I tend to mention my service and medical condition(s) most times in conversations/posts as it impacts my life every single day quite heavily, 20 years in the Military and 10 years as a GOVT employee-USDA & DEPT of VA and I am VERY proud of both. :hello:  http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/se...e-usa-flag.gif

It happened during a downpour of rain about 2 blocks from my house, just some guy backing out of his driveway not looking then wham right into a $100K car! :-( It hit the passenger front end/right side, luckily I was only doing 28MPH, the Steering Wheel Airbag Deployed and I think I was out briefly, still kind of blurry, broke my right foot as well somehow?!

**Unfortunately since it is "Totaled" I can't keep any parts of it, the Insurance Company owns it now as part of the payoff, but I did manage to get the GT-R Emblem out of the wrecked front grill before they towed it away the next day. The Engine was not damaged whatsoever just the front end, radiator and inter-coolers.

**I will definitely look into those headers/upgrades mentioned tyvm! Because I don't drive much due to the nature of my illness I just felt I couldn't justify spending that amount of $$ again on a Car, and then being paranoid about it being ruined/damaged in any way, yah know? I would rather spend that money on my Family and enjoying a better quality of life which has been impacted greatly by my service connected disabilities.

Thanks again for your kind words/input and cheers!

V/R, Jeff

God-Speed 01-21-2015 12:04 PM

Thank you for your service first off and glad to see that you are ok from the wreck. Nice choice on the Nismo!!!

KrisL 01-21-2015 12:28 PM

Yikes! Those pictures! I'm just glad you walked away from that accident.

Welcome to the 2015 Nismo world though. :hello: We may not be as fast as the GT-R, but boy are we better looking.

makeithappen 01-21-2015 12:58 PM

Glad you are ok after that accident! The 2015 Nismo looks great though so congrats!

carlitos_370z 01-21-2015 01:01 PM

damn dude... sorry to hear about your lost :( the best and more important part is that you are ok... and congrats on your new Nismo :driving:

colbysmith 01-21-2015 01:21 PM

RIP GODZILLA :/ beautiful Nismo though!

Toyster 01-21-2015 01:22 PM

Thanks much all! In the end it was just a Car, glad to still be here!

Thanks everyone for the Congrats on my new 370Z NISMO and sorrow on my loss of the GT-R! I will definitely look into a/the intake (Takeda/Gen3), tyvm! Also going to get an InvisaBra or Invisible Mask installed next week.
*Unfortunately I couldn't keep/save anything from the GT-R, I wish I could have, with it being "Totaled" the Insurance Company now owns it as part of the settlement. :-( Believe it or not the Engine was completely undamaged, just the front bumper/front passenger side, radiator and inter-coolers, and of course the Airbag Deployed. Much of the "mess" you see on the front end/hood is from the Tow Truck Driver, he took ALL the parts that had fallen off and just threw them on the Hood. I did however manage to get the GT-R Logo/Emblem from the front grill before they took it and I get to keep the owners manual etc...

*The guy that hit me was just backing out of his driveway/not looking and it happened only about a mile from my house, it was during a downpour of rain.

*Thanks for the kind words on my Military/GOVT service (20 years Navy/10 years Federal Employee @ USDA & DEPT of VA). I think the reason I bring them up when I post is first in this particular situation to explain why I had so few miles on such a beautiful Car I had for more than a year, and second is because of pride and the fact my "conditions" are something I have to confront and deal with every day...but, given a choice I would do it all over again! :tiphat: :hello:

2011 Nismo#91 01-22-2015 08:29 AM

Sorry to hear about the accident, nice to see another NISMO, and thanks for your service. There's not really much big upgrades you "need" to do if your not going for more speed/power. Besides what was already mentioned.
1. Audio. Anything is better then what comes from the dealer. Check out the Audio section
2. Lighting. Lots of things you can do with the headlights, ONEighty has some nice things to think about. LED lights for the interior and rear license plate to replace the yellowish non led lights. Oh and the GT-R start button =P.
3. Clutch helper spring change to help the feel of the clutch if you have the manual. Hood struts the replace the cheap looking rod that holds the hood up.
4. Exterior. I personally like the Zspeed under shroud, much better then that plastic crap under the car. Finally not sure about your state rules for front license plates but a retractable holder would be nice, but there are many good options out there w/o the dealer drilling holes in your bumper.

5. Oh and change out the seats and sell them to me. ;) JK, I wish I had the seats that come with the new Nismo Zs and Jukes. No need to ever change those.

There are many little improvements that you can do and I am sure in time you'll see them all mentioned here.

Mt Tam I am 01-22-2015 10:05 AM

Toyster: Thank you for your service and I recognize that dealing with injury everyday does make for better driving days than others.

You have many options to upgrade your Z and before you do, make a plan so you do not waste your money on a whimsical build.

Welcome and I hope to see more of you around the forum. :tiphat:

Patrick@AAMComp 01-22-2015 11:34 AM

Toyster, thank you for your service and happy to hear you're okay! I hope your right foot is healing well since that operates the fun control petal! :icon17:

Welcome back to the Z world!!

edk370 01-24-2015 08:08 PM

Question, can GT-R motor fit in 370 engine bay? Anyone?

Jordo! 01-24-2015 08:50 PM

Above and beyond an obligatory expression of gratitude: I am sincerely glad you are back from your military service, intact (albeit enduring a great deal of hardships to manage, the likes of which I can only barely begin to imagine), and also glad that you survived the crash -- you, sir, are tough as nails, a fighter and a survivor, and for that alone, I salute you.

It's a shame the GT-R is a wash -- but you have the picked up sweetest of Z34's. Continue to endure, survive, and thrive and, of course, do so in style, having fun with the new Z

So, with that in mind, my humble suggestions for what to do with the new car:

1. Intakes - easy and massive-bang-for-the-buck --> K&N (or similar) panel filters + cobb (or similar) smooth (i.e., not "accordion" style) intake tubing. Money to burn and bumper removal a fun occasional Sunday in the garage, Stillen G3's, for a little more top end and growl.

2. Exhaust. Keep the OEM H pipe and cat back one, but replace the OEM cats with either high flow (RESONATED!) variants, or, if for various reasons you would just as soon as dispose of the bottleneck entirely: resonated test pipes or long tube headers (recommended: PPE).

3. Suspension/Brakes: The Nismo is stiffer than the non-nismo; add additional bracing, if you wish, in keeping with your goals, and some consideration of how over/under/neutral you like to be. OEM is fine.

Likewise with alignment, but going lower will demand more camber correction. For dampers and springs, I say, forgo coilovers, and get a set of Koni yellows and Swift sport springs. There are detailed threads on this combo, but in short: lower, flatter, firmer (the OEM Nismos, I believe, are not progressively wound, and thus can be uncomfortable when not hunkering down to take a corner -- it's always hunkering down to the same extent...).

In theory, you have stiffer lines and pads with better bite already -- I recommend Goodrich SS lines and Project Mu pads if you want a bit more out of them.

4. Tuning: If available for your car, look into Osiris Uprev -- more of a necessity if you do the Stillen G3's and definitely if you do headers or test pipes. Otherwise, a bit less critical for panel filters+tubes+HFC's.

5. Tires/wheels: OEM is quite good on the Nismo -- but you may want to look into spacers -- say 20 mm in F and 25 MM in back. This is, frankly, more cosmetic than anything -- the effect on overall handling is nominal at best.

6. Fluids: Redline 5w30 seems to fare very well on UOA's, while also quieting our noisy VVEL heads. Eventually, you'll want Redline for your other fluids too. Pretty well liked around here, and so it seems, deservedly so.

7. Oil cooling: At need. See where you tend to hover. If you rarely creep past 230*F, try some Arc cool fins (search). Inexpensive but effective. If you will be tracking or find yourself running well over 230* F quite a bit, look into replacing the OEM cooler with an aftermarket oil cooler -- numerous threads on it.

Enjoy! :tiphat:

Even if it could, the fabwork to make everything else mate up would be an enormous undertaking.

Then there's getting the ECU to work -- would have to be something like Motech full stand alone, drive train, etc etc.

It would be cheaper and easier to buy a salvage title GT-R and modify the body to look however you wish, perhaps custom retrofitting Z bumpers and the like, if the aim is a GT-R powered AWD Z.

There's virtually no shared parts between the platforms -- bear in mind that even the G and Z have some differences where everything doesn't simply bolt right into place (e.g., exhaust components) and those are practically identical vehicles built off the same exact platform.

Toyster 01-25-2015 11:02 PM

Tytytyvm All~!

Thanks again all, I would LOVE IT if I could have had/saved that GT-R Handbuilt Engine ;-)

*Here's some pics of the Car back in it's glory days, loved every minute I had it!

Buying a salvaged hipo car is not worth it imo. Chassis damage, water damage, electrical lemon law car, mechanical...screw that.

Well, couldn't you at least use the GTR's ECU? People who do motor swap use the ECU to the corresponding engine they swap. In 5 yrs. or less, someone will swap a GT-R engine into a 370, and Chevy LS V8s....

Jordo! 01-27-2015 01:09 PM

To use the ECU and motor, you would also need the high tech trans and you would have to make all that fit along with cluster, all sensors, harness the whole shebang.

It could be done, but not for less than the cost of a used GT-R. You would need a gutted Z chassis and essentially have to build all bracketry, possibly go through the firewall.

The clue that this would be an ENORMOUS undertaking is that no one has tried to do it yet.

These tricks are easier with a standard trans, and even then you have a lot of fabwork to do.

You can't even swap ECU's on the same model Z or easily swap out nav systems between one MY and the next on the same vehicle anymore -- if this project can be done it will need to be done by a sponsored race team, and the car will not be reliable or street legal.

It's way more than just a motor swap. Find a shop that does big projects like this, tell them you have a Z chassis and all the GT-R parts in your garage and ask them to give you a time and labor estimate... see what they say.

If you just want the motor + turbos and not the trans, then you almost definitely need a stand alone (and maybe an aftermarket cluster) to run it or wire both ECU's to run in tandem (it can be done, but it is a major headache). But for the cost and effort of all that, you could just turbo the Z motor and call it a day at a fraction of the cost.

Tadpole 01-27-2015 01:37 PM

Just slap some twin screws in your Z and call it a day.

edk370 01-27-2015 04:11 PM

^that GT-R motor is pretty though!
