Same brakes, but according to all the major car reviews the sports package stops in 102 feet and the NImso in 120feet. Nismo weighs more remember

HAHAHAHA thats the most retarded thing ive ever heard. Yes it weighs more.....by like 60 lbs. And with the upgraded break lines and fluid, not to mention 20mm wider tires i seriously doubt the base/sport stops TWENTY FEET shorter. There is also tests saying the sports faster too. Well thats been proven time and time again to not be true. Thats like saying a wrx is faster than a wrx sti. Its what non sti owners argue.

Is it me or are Nismo owners starting to sound like BMW owners?

Lol. Just some of them.

Some of the braking distance discrepancy may be due to the stiffer Nismo suspension. If it's too stiff to allow weight to transfer around, you may see a longer braking distance. Lines and fluid are more for feel and repeatability, and they do very little in terms of stopping distance. The front tires are the same size as the Sport, and almost all braking is done by the front of the car. It's also on different tires, so it's hard to compare apples to apples.

chii370 09-24-2013 10:02 AM

Actually... the nismo is 20mm wider in front and back isnt it? 265 f 285r opposed to 245 265? And yeah i guess ur right, but it seems to push weight fwd just fine, its not THAT stiff. Dif tires to........ so who knows. Also the nismo comes with nismo break pads. If u opted for it. But u can get them on the sport. I have them, maybe thats why i notice a difference?

I just swapped from stock sport tires to Nismo wheels and tires. The front is 245 on both. The wheel itself is wider on the Nismo, but the tire is the same size as sport. Sport rears are 275s, so only a 10mm difference there as well.

chii370 09-24-2013 10:12 AM

Oh cool, didnt know that.

theDreamer 09-24-2013 10:21 AM

Tires are going to be a large factor in handling & stopping, and on the notion that the sport is faster/slower.
It has been shown both are faster, it comes down to what "test" is used. Honestly the Nismo was a let down, they threw on some parts and hoped it sold with no real thought on design and performance. Many owners I know of the Nismo upgrade the tires and see a world of difference, so again it came down to the accountants on the Z picking parts.

Chuck33079 09-24-2013 10:23 AM

The only differences between the two from a suspension standpoint are shocks/springs/sways and a brace in front of the radiator support, right?

theDreamer 09-24-2013 10:25 AM

And they have 2 extra points on the strut bar in the engine bay.

That's right, they gusseted the strut bar. So not a tremendous amount of difference.

Lets be mature and check the facts before we all sound like BMW owners now lol. Facts are facts no matter how much I dislike that.

Edmunds did the test side by side, braking distance gap is less than the other magazine but its the same picture.

Track Tested: 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z vs. 2009 Nissan 370Z Touring

Partly it's the front bumper design resulting in lack of cooling vs the normal bumper. Nissan sacrificed performance for asthetic reason mostly. It is an unacceptable disadvantage vs the sport pkg cars. That's a fact.

It's a dead horse that's been beaten

chii370 09-24-2013 11:16 AM

The nismo in japan comes with 3 extra frame braces that u can buy here as an extra jdm part. The wheels, tires, interior trim, stabalizers, sway bars, suspension, aero kit, exhaust and tune. To be honest the 4500 extra for the nismo isnt close to what ot would cost to get each of those things aftermarket, even CHEAP ****. Let alone something worth having. Dissapointing? Not really, sure u can upgrade from it but if u boil it down its not a bad value. Especially when u consider its all under warranty. I think anything further would have just driven it into a price bracket even hardcore fans wouldnt consider. Would i habe liked a factory 300zx style tt? Sure. Would i have liked leather seats? Sure. And many other things. But then it would be 50k+ .....

Chuck33079 09-24-2013 11:21 AM

It's more than a $4500 difference from a Base+Sport. Buying the Nismo is a good value if you like the body kit and wheels. It's not worth it from a power or handling standpoint, since a base owner can get shocks, sways, springs, an exhaust and tune for less than $4500. It's a great vehicle, but some Nismo owners need to stop thinking that their vehicle isn't functionally 95% exactly the same as a Base+Sport.

chii370 09-24-2013 11:28 AM

Lol its not. Stitch and add leather to ur interior, get AM wheels, AM exhaust, AM body kit, lsd"same as sport, not base" tranny "same as sport not base" springs, sways, dampers, shocks, braces, and a tune...... ur the man if u got ALL that under 4500. And the nismo is BARELY mosre expensive than a loaded sport/touring. Which msrp tips over 40k and dont even mention the convertable. Same car yes. But a lot of hidden value. Value i see more and more as i put AM stuff on it. **** adds up FAST.
