Paint chipping on the front break caliper

Do any of you here have the same issue on this? Just bought the 2013 Nismo and after 2 weeks of having it I notice there is a tiny spot on the top of the caliper that the paint had chipped off. I look on the other side is it's there also on the exact spot. Please chime in so that I can be at ease. Thank you all.

unless a wheel smacked it during install its just a crummy nissan paint issue.

fredstah 02-25-2013 01:20 PM

Going back to the dealer later about this issue.

dmhenderson 02-25-2013 01:45 PM

Yeah just take it back to the dealership. They need to fix that. Not sure if Nissan uses paint or powder but if it's the latter, there's no way you could have done that without taking the caliper off the car.

bb370z 02-25-2013 06:39 PM

Paint? Send your calipers to Mike and have them powder coated.

dmhenderson 02-25-2013 06:45 PM

I'm pretty sure Nissan uses powder on them and not paint but I could be wrong.

diddy535 02-25-2013 07:40 PM

Yeah definitely a dealer issue since the car is so new. Good luck!

dmhenderson 02-25-2013 07:43 PM

Ask Mike if you want to be sure. He could tell you how they come from the factory (paint or powder).

Mike 02-25-2013 08:02 PM

I don't know what it is, I think its a paint, but its much more durable than regular auto paint, even though the OPs have already chipped. Its a bitch to strip off.

That's a really odd damage pattern now that I look at it closer. It looks like it was hit with something starting at the top righthand corner of the caliper and heading down diagonally.

KiwiNismo 02-25-2013 09:52 PM

I have the same issue on the right front caliper of my 2012.
Keep us posted.

fredstah 02-26-2013 08:38 AM

Have you address this issue to the dealer?

Got a call today from Connell Nissan here in Southern California. They say that they will replace both side of the calipers. That is what I call "awesome!". I would have been in tantrum if they say would just touch it up. Also, there is some peeling on the edge of the back bumper. They are aware of it but they say they will touch it up.....I dot think so! For now, Connell Nissan here been great so far.

This should be a sticky subject

dmhenderson 02-26-2013 05:45 PM

I had peeling at both fender joints at about 6 months in. Nissan authorized the repaint and I've had no issues since.

KiwiNismo 02-27-2013 12:20 AM

No, i have not addressed the issue yet.
I have addressed another issue regarding paint on my car at a local dealership (09/2012) and never got a call back.

Glad to hear you are getting your issues addressed.

dmhenderson 02-27-2013 06:47 AM

Go in-person. Repaints require an inspection and authorization by someone from Nissan corporate.

fredstah 02-27-2013 09:16 AM

Do not let that wait any longer.

KiwiNismo 02-27-2013 04:29 PM

i did go in person. they took pics of the issue and my info of course.
I will try again regarding the calipers.

dmhenderson 02-27-2013 04:41 PM

Get the service director's name and badger the **** out of him.

fredstah 02-27-2013 06:47 PM

To tell you guys the truth, there are a lot of imperfections on this vehicle especially coming from Japan. Thought Japanese are clean and detailed people....not!

Yeah let's not get carried away and go all wacky racist here.

There are ferraris and lambos that roll off the assy line with defects. Take the car back to the dealership and articulate your problem. I have had zero problems getting Nissan to cover any defects I have run across.

Lol, I don't expect any I-talian car to be reliable...

But lets keep the thread to posts regarding the problem!

OP, have you heard anything hit your wheels while driving? Is there an possibility a rock hit it or got caught there?
I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT, but maybe? Lol...
In any case, it's a dealershit problem

fredstah 02-27-2013 09:09 PM

Good gawd almighty! Are you asking me if I heard something hitting my wheel? Both side of the calipers is chipped at the exact spot.

Maybe you go off roading? LOL

I'm just trying to think that for paint to chip, something has to hit them... It's just strange is all

fredstah 02-27-2013 09:25 PM

It is for sure from the factory when they installed the wheel. Thank gawd dealer is noticing this issue from others also and they are replacing it.

Wow, god bless them!

fredstah 02-27-2013 09:27 PM

Your comment also is out of subject, mister. All you had to say, stay on the subject.

Eh I disagree. I didn't like the tone of your post and I called you on it. I was contributing to the thread "on subject" as it were prior to that.

I'm done with this thread. I hope the dealership resolves your issue.

fredstah 03-01-2013 12:02 PM

Just got out of the dealer for them to replace the Calipers. What, they are actually brembos but Nissan put their name on the calipers?

Mike 03-01-2013 12:04 PM

no, they are akebono, not brembo. 350z had brembo

:iagree:
So they just ordered you a new set and installed them?
No grief?

fredstah 03-01-2013 10:24 PM

No gried at all. And your request did not work by the way. sorry.

Now, I'll give them a few days then I will be back to them to talk about that rear bumper. It has already been on paper that they will touch it up or repaint it. If they can replace my calipers which I'm sure it's worth more than replacing my bumber instead of touching it up, I'm sure they can't denny my request.

Again, Conell Nissan here in Southern California has done honest work so far me.
