Strange Nismo Noises

Whats up guys - as some of you new - I'm a new Nismo owner. I've had the car now a few days and I have a few questions about some noises I'm hearing. Sorry if these are really stupid questions... I just have BAD OCD, and want to make sure everything is okay. So thanks for all the help in advanced!
:tiphat:

Here is the low down:

1) Parked, in Neutral (car running), with the Clutch NOT Depressed (my foot off of it) = It sounds like something is "spinning", maybe even a lit "rattle"? Is this just the clutch?

2) When changing gears from first to second, or downshifting from third to second - there is something like a light "clanking" noise - I'm guessing the clutch or gearing. Is this normal?

Thanks again guys!

From what I have read and heard myself its normal. Think of it as a race car not sports car they are loud and not quite. The trans is cranky(loud) but you’re dealing with power and race components.

1. I have exactly same noise and I saw others complained about it too. When you press the clutch down, however, the noise is gone right? I guess it's normal.

2. It could be you didn't shift from 1st to 2nd smoothly. It will take some time to get used to. When your SRM is on, try not to apply gas when you shift from 1st to 2nd.

I have the same exact noises, and wondered about them myself! Guess its normal then. Super smooth shifting can mostly illiminate it

Yea, when I press clutch back down it does go away.

I am begging to think I am just being smooth enough....

I don't know if this helps but the Vehicle Dynamic control make lots of funky noises and my new 2013 Nismo makes clinking noises while shifting into first and various times. The dealer contacted the regional rep and he verified this IS normal. Here is the link to the 2012 370Z manual: http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/refgh...issan-370Z.pdf Look at page 5-28. I hope this helps.

The noise you hear when the clutch is out, engine running and in neutral is the throw-out bearing. This is a normal noise in all standard transmissions.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm starting to feel alot better!

I think what you are hearing is pilot bearing and for some reason Nissan has noisy bearings. Usually they are quiet and I think personally it is a design flaw. I have the Nismo and a 370z sport and they both make the same noises.

Trans noise is normal too it makes a lot of clunking and clicking when switching gears.

i think mine has already started.. Did you fix yours? Strong bumps make it clank... I need to try to fix it.

I was worried too when i first drove the car home 2 weeks ago. To me the transmission sounded really clunky/mechanically shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd at low rpm like around 2000, at the same time it didnt feel bad.
In a way i just thought this is how a true rwd sports cars (my first rwd car) transmission is like given that shifting is more direct and it is also closer to me than all other manual fwd cars where the transmission is more in the engine bay.

Glad to read this thread and know its more normal than not.

^^yah my G35 made the same noise and I noticed that the Nismo makes this noise but much quieter. From everything I have read it is the throw out bearing. everything works fine but there is a slight mechanical noise...

Just to further assuage your concerns... I had a 350Z roadster and now have a 370Z Nismo and the transmissions on both made a "ker-thunk" sounds followed by a short rattle when I fully depressed the clutch pedal. Since both cars have made that exact same sound, I presume it's normal.

My hatch has rattled a little since day one... now something on my dash is vibrating. This kinda stuff sucks, but honestly I've owned 2 Nissan Z cars, a Honda Accord, a Lexus ES (gussied up Camry), an old Subaru, an old Saab, and a Toyota MR2 and all of them developed rattles in a very short period of time. It's unavoidable unless you want to rip the car apart and add 100 lbs of Dynamat. That **** is heavy; I don't think that weight estimate is an exaggeration.
