Front license plate mount bracket options?

My vehicle was factory ordered and will be delivered at the end of this month. I specified that I did *not* want front license plate holes drilled assuming I'd be able to use the Stillen mounting bracket here:

http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...T01&c=EX&m=all

Well, I just noticed that it specifically says that the bracket will not fit the NISMO trim. I sent out feelers to Stillen to see if they have any suggestions, but the great state of Maryland requires that I have the plate mounted somewhere on the front of the car.

Suggestions (that don't involve drilling)?

MJB 01-05-2012 02:56 PM

I know another forum member is using this, Nissan - GoMiniGo-Home of Innovative Products for your car. I will probably buy one soon.

takjak2 01-05-2012 05:16 PM

I'm just about finished fabricating my own. It's welded together so that it won't suffer the loosening reported on the Stillen. (And is cheap for me.)

I looked at the gominigo option and would have no problem suggesting that for others.

Check out Moweraxle.com as an alternative. That is what I have on my NISMO. Check out my albulm with it installed at this Link!

My state has a law that requires a front license plate, but after a year and half of driving around I haven't been dinged on it yet. I have been pulled over once by State Patrol and he didn't mention it at all.

So my question is, do other states more aggresively enforce the law?

roplusbee 01-05-2012 07:54 PM

MD....my home state and TX (Fort Hood) because military folks get the put on blast when they get a ticket my the unit! Sux........

forza370z 01-05-2012 09:52 PM

I am from Mass. Haven't been pulled over yet, but had trouble to pass the inspection. So I read the following thread and ordered Moweraxle plate bracket. It's awesome! Easy to install easy to take it off. It looks cool too(I like to rock the plate to the side)! I am having the bracket and the plate in the car just in case if I am pulled over by a cop I could put it on right away to avoid a ticket. :D

forza370z 01-05-2012 09:53 PM

Oops... Here is the thread... Lol!

All of the above are good options for those that need to have a front plate. And..........FUK TX for playing with my emotions about the front plate thing! I don't have any isseus when I go home to Baltimore (having TX plates are a win in that situation) though, lol!

I have the moweraxel plate holder installed its well made, seems solid. I recomend it!

I have four holes in my bumper right now. I m going to try out the color matched bumper plugs till I get the bumper re-done.

I just got the mower deck axle license plate bracket. looks great and works great and got to the house in a couple days.

Anyone have the long EURO-style plate mounted without drilling? If so how did you do it?? I have the mower axle kit that fit the US spec plate but I am nearly at a loss for ideas on how to mount my long plate securely enough so it does not flex while cruising at 130+mph.

roplusbee 02-26-2012 04:03 PM

I spoke with them a long while ago. I remember the gentleman I spoke with asking me what type of license plate I had. Try giving them a call or an email. I am sure that they will do something for you!

Edit: I just shot an email off to Larry (the email address has his name in it) and asked about the possibility of running off a few Euro style plate holders off. I will report back when I get a response.......

roplusbee 02-26-2012 06:02 PM

Just got a reply from Larry. Looks like I was mistaken about the license plate bracket. He does not offer one for the Euro style license plates. Now I am going to go on a search for such a thing. Be back shortly!

stephsparkles 02-26-2012 09:40 PM

Possible solution?

I found this front mount license plate bracket and thought I'd share the link as it looks like a decent alternative.
While I'm not thrilled it still involves making a holes in the bumper at least it's on the underside edge and not directly on the front face....

I'm just going to pay the fine. Mounts + license make the car ugly IMO. Plenty of cops have seen me without the plate and not said anything, maybe I'll reconsider when they pull me over.

Also to the poster above me, those holders look REALLY nice. Much better than the other ones. I'd actually consider those.

Thanks bro, just got back from AFG myself, just in time for spring.

dmhenderson 03-19-2012 04:03 PM

Just got my mower axle bracket and unfortunately, the tow hook area is blocked by my LED running lights. Argh.

Gauge 03-19-2012 06:29 PM

The best option is to drive around without one first. To see if you should even bother. Many cops don't give a hoot about it. If a cop pulls you over, say you didn't know about that law and that your car came without one and you will get one ASAP. He'll let you off with a warning or something. Then you can start searching :)

I also live in Colorado. Never in the last 20 years has anyone I know got pulled over/cited for not having a front plate. It seems very lax here.
Maybe it's just because all the cops only see the back of my car

dmhenderson 03-20-2012 07:49 AM

Larry (from moweraxle) asked me to take some pictures for him. Maybe he can work something out. I'll post the results.

He seems like a genuinely good guy.

dmhenderson 03-24-2012 05:26 PM

So Larry ended up refunding me for the mounting kit because nothing could be done to get around the DLR kit.

It really was a sharp looking, well-built kit. I would definitely recommend the moweraxle to kit to anyone looking for a front bracket solution that doesn't involve drilling.

Larry responded to all of my emails within 24 hrs and even refunded my shipping without me asking for it. Class act.

Hmmm....

Is there only one mounting spot on the car? In other words is the tow hook mount spot the same as the license plate mount spot? So it's one or the other correct? Thx.

On the fence deciding between GoMiniGo offset and Maoweraxle bracket. Are both adjustable in height and laterality from side to side?

I have the GoMiniGo one and absolutely love it. I was worried at first it wouldn't come with enough pieces to be long enough. I ended up with 5 extra washers and even more nuts/bolts.

It's only adjustable from side to side if you get the offset bracket. You can flip it 180 degrees and get two options out of it. There are 3 height levels. However, I've considered using the plate holes as added options to adjustment in height (this would give it 5 height levels).

The moweraxle mount cannot be adjusted (without modification) in any direction. It has a large steel bolt that screws into your towhook that then screws directly into the bracket.

Sorry to bump a dead thread.

I have a 2015 Nismo; is there any reason the P-Tuning Nismo version (listed as 09-12) wouldn't work?

False. The moweraxle mounts to the car but has 6 or 8 holes on the plate itself that allows you to choose the positioning you want it to be at. There are 2 different heights and 4 options left and right

I believe the length of the rod is shorter on the older Nismo's. Your best bet is to get the mount designed for the 15

PTuning sent me this measurement (pic below) for their 09-12 Nismo kit. Looks like about 8 inchs after the threaded portion.

I'll take a measurement when i get home today on the Nismo clearance.

I thought Nismo variants had to be longer due to the longer nose. Moweraxle has a longer one for the '09-14 Nismo than for a base, but one thats an inch shorter (than '09-14 Nismo)for their '15-16 Nismo.

dmatt 12-31-2015 11:41 AM

Yes rod for the '15 will work fine.

Srry for the delay.

Took tape measure, got about 7 inches from toe hook mount to nose of car. To me 8 inches would stick out too much.

I called Ptuning and they said they don't have a mounting rod thats 7 inches with the right thread pitch.

I am going with the Mower Axle one specifically for 15-16 Nismo, since we know it works.

Ptuning did say they'll work on a 2015-16 one when they can get ahold of a test far to sample on. They were pretty helpful overall despite not having a solution that worked for what i wanted.

I received my Mower Axle kit for the 2015-16 bumper. Super easy install, Larry got it shipped out quick as well. 2 day shipping!
