Wtf!

So the story goes like this. I have been let's just say a driver of the German type engineering since i was a child. I am going to give a lineup, not for bragging rights but rather to focus the attention to my current situation.

1986 - VW Golf Diesel (Riced to look like a GTI) Sunk in a freak submarine disaster.
1987 - VW GTI (The car I originally desired) Terrible wreck
1988 - VW Jetta GLI (Sweet 4 door) the good old days of BBS and Blaupunkt
1991 - VW Passt GLX VR6 (Crazy upgrade and a bit of power)
1993 - VW Corrado VR6 Now I have to say that this was a truly elegant sports Coupe for the money. Good power and refined. Love it! Wrecked!
1995 VW Passat Wagon GLX VR6 (Great wagon....Hell Great Car)!!
1996 VW Jetta GLX VR6 fairly well modded. Great handling, quick and tight
1998 BMW 540i To be honest...quick, cool, but....anyway into a wall at 127!
1998 BMW M3 (Tracking begins) Solid Vehicle, excellent on the track, loved it!
2000 BMW M3 Supercharged (Better then before...begin winning!)
2002 BMW M5 (Should have stayed with the M3) HEAVY!!!!
2004 VW R32 (EIP racing exhaust, chipped) For real......this was one of my very favorite cars) Fast, loud and held to the road like GLUE!!
2006 Mercedes SLK55 AMG with racing pack (Awesome N/A speed, good looks, impressive features and certainly turned heads. Blew the F1 Transmission. Car sat idle waiting to be fixed for 2.5 months. I got pissed and traded it!
2007 BMW 335i Coupe (Solid car, awesome engine with very low psi perside on turbos) This car scared the M3 to a V8!

So there it is. Now comes October of 2009. I sell my 3351 and my Dually to Nissan in one day and walk with a 370z Nimso and a Titan. Just like that I run to Japan. I Absolutely love my Nismo and the Titan. The Nismo will be tracked for sure, but I have a couple of things that need to be done. I will do my best to keep this car N/A at least until a time proven Super Charger comes out. There is a point to this:stirthepot:..........I have written this lengthy note to Prove a point.:icon18:

ALL I WANT TO KNOW FROM NISMO OWNERS ONLY IS WHAT WTF MOD GIVES YOU THE BEST UPFRONT BANG FOR THE BUCK!! Please leave the CAI issue alone as I am positive someone will come out with a much better option then Stillen, Injen or whomever else has tried. This engine bay needs to breath period! The air is tooooo stagnant........needs some venting for sure! Talk to me about HFC's and all that good stuff. Horsepower for N/A engine!!

Thanks

Josh@STILLEN 02-14-2010 03:48 AM

lol.. 17.5whp from a cold air intake isn't bang for the buck?

We can help you build a full race car if you're interested.. we've done quite a few..

chrisn 02-14-2010 04:59 AM

I would say that it is a decent bang for the buck Josh, but the i would prefer to just have a different channeling of the intake itself.....so much pipe. The point of my message was that you could go on for months reading about CAI's and inevitably it is going to end in some JA calling some other JA a boob for their preference. I do not want a race car, but a weekend track car that will push the buttons on the Euro's. is there any difference is the install for the Nismo. Really......no BS......PM me with some real info about everything you have available and maybe we can get me where I want to be. Am i special? Nope, but I would love to explore the world of the Z while i have one.

Staying NA is easy and plenty of options, since you say you want to track the car you should also look at brakes (pads, fluids, etc.). For performance numbers the best so far (ie you can buy today): Stillen Gen III intake, Berk HFC, and Stillen CBE.
Unknown items that are in production are Fast Intenstion long tube headers, Berk CBE, AEM intake.

Other items to look into upgrading with no clear cut winner in performance, pulley (Stillen or NonStopTuning), lighter flywheel, tuen (Cobb or Uprev). Since you have a Nismo you might like the stock suspension for awhile, but I can bet over time you will want to upgrade that also.

Best bag for the buck is the intake or the HFC's IMO. My plans for a little extra power are Stillen Gen III intake, Berk HFC, jim wolf clutch package (the z has a extremely heavy flywheel, 32lbs I think, wolfs is a 16 lber), at some point swaping the Cat back out for a Berk system, some non-stop tunning pulleys and a tune from cobb. And I have to agree with you that the corrado was an amazing car, a friend had one back in college and I always wanted one, loved driving it.

Best suspension upgrade for the Nismo is to remove the shipping spacers the dealer left on the front springs, best of all it's free!

chrisn 02-14-2010 03:26 PM

Did it. Couldn't believe it! I still wonder if a few of the preliminary reviews on the suspension were due to this. I had 3 per side front and 2 per side rear. I still need to know abouit fitment issues with the Nismo and the Stillen CAI aside from the cutout. Anyone??

theDreamer 02-14-2010 03:29 PM

Only one person I know has done the Stillen Gen III install on the Nismo and he got them to work, but the Nismo has some extra plates or something for the bumper which either had to be removed or modified.

chrisn 02-14-2010 03:56 PM

That is what I figured. Maybe Josh can chime in here? What about the ARC brand boxes? Anyone?

nismo upgrades

I agree with you. It seems most posts address the regular Z, yet the nismo probably has fitment issues for intakes, exhaust, etc. Can the nismo exhaust be modified at all? Are HFC's enough, both for performance and sound? The Cobb guys that tuned my STI said many are going back to the stock box for air intake and just a K&N type filter. This could be a great thread for me. Thanks, in advance.

theDreamer 02-14-2010 05:54 PM

Well so far it is not 100% if the extra HP is from the tune or the exhaust so HFC are a nice addition to any setup. Exhaust wise we have seen many exhaust systems thrown on the Nismo already that were only tested on the Coupe.

I bet you can do a 350whp *minimum* SAE corrected (+/- 15whp depending on dyno) all motor Nismo 370z.... 93 octane, Fitch Fuel catalyst, injen sp1990p intakes, eneos 0w50 oil or 5w40, ppe 837001 long tube headers, pick an exhaust, do the new exhaust cams, nismo upgraded tune, jwt or OS Giken clutch / flywheel, and eneos mtf. Forgot to mention a Nismo 4.083 Ring & Pinion, the new Enkei PF01 18x10.5" wheels all around, and A'Pexi S1 Dampers.

Half that list is the worst bang for the buck you can buy for the Nismo, plus some of it does not help. If you want bang for the buck for the Nismo performance, start with HFC and then on to intake. After that you are with everyone else (coupe/roadster) in terms of upgrades needed for track or other needs.
