Its not too hard to do it yourself but if the dealer is close save yourself the hassle. Pretty sure its just the front bro.

Matt 12-15-2009 04:01 PM

The dealer explained to me that there are 3 of these spacers installed on the car during shipment. They only saw the outer 2, and accidentally left this 3rd in place.

Apparently the PDI does not indicate how many there are, only that they are to be removed, which explains why this is so common.

Drives a lot better now!

G Fo12ce 12-15-2009 05:24 PM

I usually take the streets and a 2 lane highway (Silverado Canyon Road) to work, but today I took the freeway to try it out. As expected much much better on expansion gaps and those repetitive stretches of bumps. The ride is still firm and sporty but a lot less harsh.

I remeber thinking "what was Nissan was thinking making the valving this stiff" haha. Problem solved.

Maybe I should email Nissan  and to make them aware there is a communication problem about these spacers.

BTW thanks for the rep points :excited:

I have to think that played with the handling a bit.

On the bright side, this is the cheapest Mod I've done so far!

I had to work or I woulda probably meet some of you guys. Hopefully on the next one.

motoextreme 12-15-2009 10:24 PM

I lied...I left them on for a stiffer ride. Cant afford Coil overs so I'm going to keep adding spacers until I get that skateboard ride I've always wanted!!

That's F'd up!!!! Funny though!!! I get the douchbag award, please remove one point...oh wait, I only have one :)

NismoZ34_078 12-16-2009 12:51 AM

Dude... I just removed mine today after reading the post. Great find!!! Stupid F'rs at Nissan. Can't believe it. I had all 3 on the right and left springs. Can't wait to drive it tomorrow. Was curious why it was soo god damn stiff. Moto, you're not the only douche.

motoextreme 12-16-2009 01:03 AM

HAHAHAHAHA...I can think of worst things to be! :bowrofl:

I'm cracking up here. I'm supposed to be catching up on emails but I'm getting a huge kick out of the threads tonight. I can't recall the last time I even heard the term Douche Bag....still laughing!

corner3garage 12-16-2009 02:25 AM

Sounds like my joke that Nissan screwed up on the spring rates and just added plastic spacers to "firm up the ride" :p

Matt 12-16-2009 07:43 AM

I almost went off on the dealership when I got mine removed yesterday.

After my car was given back to me, I asked if they removed the spacers. The supervisor told me "There were none on the fronts, but 1 in the rear was removed so you're good now".

I laughed, and pointed out that the 2 on my front that were there earlier were no longer there, and that's it's funny that one in the rear was removed since there are none in the rear.

She went back into the shop and came back out and admitted she pretty much just made all that up.

Not only am I not going to this dealer for normal maintenance, I will no longer be going back for ANYTHING, even warranty stuff. I will be going to the dealership 30+ miles away should any warranty issues arise.

Sunbelt Nissan in Augusta, GA.

I'm writing a letter to Nissan this week about the dealer. It's pretty sad everything I've been through so far with this POS dealer.

vipor 12-16-2009 08:09 AM

that's terrible Matt. c'mon, why lie about something like that? http://www.the370z.com/members/vipor...culasaurus.gif

G Fo12ce 12-17-2009 12:21 AM

Wow I feel lucky to not really make it on the douche-radar finding this after only 10 days of ownership. Thanks for jumping on the sword for me fellas by leaving them on longer lol.

All kidding aside, if Nissan had been better about communicating this to dealers and/or the lacky lube/PDI techs were better trained we would not have to deal with this. Maybe I should link this post on an email to Nissan. I'm sure there is a % of owners who don't participate on the forum who have this problem and don't even know it.

AK370Z 12-22-2009 05:38 PM

It's now sticked in the Nismo blog

ATTENTION All Nismo 370Z Owners! Check this thread first before driving your Nismo! - Nismo 350Z / Nismo 370Z Enthusiast Community

mikeyt750 12-22-2009 08:14 PM

OMG! Man, you gt to be kidding me. I just went out to the Garage and checked out the whip. I looked when I bought my car in Aug but was looking in the wrong spot. I still have mine on there too! Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Time for some testing....

mikeyt750 12-22-2009 08:17 PM

BTW, thanks for making the Nismo Blog/Section

motoextreme 12-22-2009 08:20 PM

This is SOOOO crazy!

Imagine the lawsuit that could stem from this if it tied to an accident. Not sure that it would but just shows you how irresponsible some of these Mechanics are. $80-90 an hour for these guys...comedy!

you're welcome. I thought Nismo guys needed a special place to just CHILL and admire their beautiful NISMOs .

radianation 12-22-2009 08:44 PM

Thanks for posting this. I need to check mine out too. I thought the suspension felt a little off. It was stiff but didn't handle that great compared to my s14 with coilovers.

motoextreme 12-22-2009 09:35 PM

You're the man AK!

Wait till you see the car bro, changed my mind and made a few last minute changes. Going to be cool!

Dustin@Z1 12-23-2009 09:20 AM

Nissan used something similar to these on other Nissan models too. On my '92 Slicktop 300zx I found that I had these on my rear struts after 208,000 miles. When I added the TEIN coilovers I noticed that they were on there and did not know what they were for at first. Apparently Nissan has had a problem with this for nearly a decade now.Lol.

Good find btw.

wow, looks like i'm gonna hit up my friend with a z32 and take a gander lol

Dustin@Z1 12-23-2009 09:50 AM

Yeah they are alot smaller. They are about 1" wide and are about 4" ~ 5" long. I joked because they resemble a set of Rubber Brass Knuckles.

We see quite a few Z32's come thru here with them still attached.

aliveZ 12-24-2009 01:06 AM

3 months and 1900 miles later... Add another member to the d-bag list. I just went out to the garage and looked. I saw at least one on either side. Going to the dealer this weekend. Thanks for the tip.

motoextreme 12-24-2009 01:11 AM

I've decided to open a shop. Its a suspension shop but all we do is remove these stupid damn spacers. We dont sell parts, just do simple fixes to Nismo's.

So...$500 and I'll guarantee you a better ride. Please book ahead as we are really busy fixing dumb as Mechanics Oversights. Yes, the same ones you paid 500-1000 or more for Freight and Set up.

Its funny yet frustrating how widespread this is.

nope

White, Black, Silver, Red, Graphite only

stiso 12-26-2009 05:35 PM

Now that it's off, i kinda miss the stiffness while cornering, might need to look into stiffer springs up front!

DJ_TJ 01-01-2010 09:40 PM

when i first got mine i jacked up the front and pulled off one of these from each side. then when i pulled off my wheels for the first time a couple hundred miles later, i found two more on each side!

aliveZ 01-03-2010 12:16 AM

they're reproducing under there.:icon18:
