4th Brake light

I installed a smoked out 4th brake light yesterday and I thought that I would share the results with the community, the install took about 3hr's and was fairly easy to do, I did brake 1 clip on the back panel but it didn't make a difference once I re-installed it (thank god) my wife wouldn't let me forget it or I would need to buy a new one, anyway if anyone has any questions feel free to ask, in one of the pictures it shows the wires covered with aluminum tape, I felt that it ran really close to the muffler and shield plate, also I used black tape to wrap the wires all the way to the top sorry that I didn't take any pic's of the install I thought about it afterwards any way here are the pictures. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...psaxtkfteg.jpghttp://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspkp4z4ul.jpghttp://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...psckynajyt.jpghttp://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskukznuul.jpghttp://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgquyifkt.jpghttp://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps8xgbryop.jpg

IJDMTOY.COM the smoked lens.

Also I didn't mention in the original post that I soldered the connections I think that's a very important step that's not mentioned in the directions and
I am very happy with the quality and the price($79).

Matt, just a couple of tips to be aware of if you are doing the install your self, splicing the wires is a bit tricky, I put masking tape on the area around the car that I was working around to prevent any scratches and then I unplugged the tail light from the car (it makes it easier), I used wire strippers to notch between the area that I wanted to tap to and then an Exacto knife to slice the plastic coating, then I wrapped the 4th brake light wire around the bare tail light wires soldered them and wrapped the individual wires with black tape and then bundled the wires with more black tape and finally I zip tied it all together for a good clean fit hope this helps Tim.

Hey Tim, thanks for tips! I'll be sure to remove over of the rear lamps to make life easier for myself! I'm pretty nervous about splicing into the stock wires. Did it during a reverse camera to my 350 - they don't leave much room for error!
I'm going to look at wiring options as we need to run a fog light in the UK, but I might look at using the brighter red for both fog and brakes. Did it to my old MR2 using some diodes.

I'd done the same install immediately after purchase back in September!

Nice install, i assume the rear fender doesn't need to be removed to fit the 4th brake light ?

Nithmo 02-20-2017 05:52 PM

The rear fender is not removable. It is part of the physical car body, unlike a front fender, which can be removed.

Does the white light help with visibility when backing up? Or is there no difference? I'm looking into solutions to provide more lighting while reversing, and this might be an option...

I have the non-smoked version and yes, the white LEDS do help a bit when backing up @ night...of course, I have super dark tint on my rear glass.

The red outline in ijdmtoy light goes well with the red lines on the Nismo kit.
