Things that annoy me driving my Nismo

I've noticed things from other drivers on the road when I'm in my Nismo that I don't experience when I'm driving my FIT(daily car), and it irritates the hell outta me.

Vehicles ahead of me will slow down for me to get up to them. Vehicles behind me will speed up to catch up to me. I'm constantly surrounded by cars on all sides, like a herd of freakin cattle.

Vehicles at intersections will "peel off", even when they're going opposite direction or crossing in front of me. Light turns green and they're off to the races, as if flexing their muscles "Hey, look at me!"

I get it, being challenge by a car next to me at intersections.. I ignore them and let them take off. But then the ones BEHIND me will also rev engine and peel off, sometimes almost rear-end me, then aggressively change lanes to pass me. But once they get ahead, they slow their asses down so I would catch up to them, back to the "herd mentality"..

This happens from sports cars, sedans, pickups, Uhauls, priuses.. Every make and models..

I'll park in BFE in parking lots away from other cars. Come back out and there're cars parked next to me. C'on man..

Maybe where I'm at, there's not too many Nismos so they're rare to see. But dammit, it gets irritating lol. Sorry for the vent guys and gals

It happens, you get numb to it. Just think of how bad it would be if you drove a Porche GT3, Lambo, GTR, or some other exotic.
When they start trying to run you off the road because they have an issue, then you can complain. That has happened several times to me. I have had to change my driving style to "A good offense, is a good defense".

I try to drive defensively as well.. try to stay a good distance away from cars ahead of me, also not stay to the side of a car (blind spots) too long by either slowing down or speeding up. That's why I get irritated when other cars intentionally stay close to me on purpose

I've had my 14 Nismo for 2 months now and I can't tell you on all my fingers and toes, how many times I have had run-ins with people like you are describing. Some have been pretty extreme. I drove through a parking lot to get some Taco Bell and some guys in trucks starting yelling and cussing at me, while I was on a date with my woman. Well, we ignore that, then they tried to stalk me on the highway. Dropped a gear and disappeared. But while it's hilarious in some cases, in other cases, it is absolutely annoying and gets very old. There are not a lot, if any, Nismos where I live but I didn't expect the kind of negative attention I would get.

BehindSpace 09-08-2016 06:02 PM

you chose to drive a a 'look at me, too cool for school' car.
the negative attention is not justified but should be expected.

i learned the hard way and sold my 2014 nismo for this reason.
the decision maker for me was having someone in an old pickup truck staring at me in his rearview mirror for over a mile on a 1 way highway. I wasnt tailgating by any means and knew he was staring because of the looks of the car (i was used to the attention by this point and had already been keyed). Then he slowed down about 20mph until i did close to him so he could empty his ashtray full of cigarrette butts and ash out his window directly onto my car.
I pulled off the road and realized it wasn't worth it, it was a no win situation taking the abuse or reacting to it.
car sold for a 14 thousand dollar loss after owning it for about 5 months.

a few hours before that i was waiting in line at a starbucks drivethru and had some guy glaring at me from the outside seating area, next thing i know he's gotten up walking directly behind my car to look to see what kind it is I guess then walks back and sits down while still meanmugging me.

a few days before that have some young kid trying to look hard in his mid 90's civic fly by and cut in front me almost clipping my front bumper pebbling my car with rocks and dust. we get to the light, i see him trying to say something to me and motioning to me so i roll down my window to hear "you feel my dust bitch?"

What??? You let someone else dictate what you can drive. You lost when that happened. I would have kicked that Civic guys door in. The old truck, I would have taken care of that too.

Is it weird that Fearless, BehindSpace and myself have/had '14 Nismos? Is it the 2 tone that get these reactions? Lol

No, I have gotten the same with a 2012 and 2013 Nismo. First of all, don't let it get under your skin. Deal with the situation and move on peacefully. Hard to do sometimes.

Is it just Nismo's that get all this negative attention? Does the average non-Z owner know the difference between a Nismo and a Base Z from a distance, other than perhaps the wing?

I read with interest the issues some of you have had and would agree it would get very aggravating. In my area, I get no attention at all with my '14 Base Z, either positive or negative...guess I am lucky. I might as well be driving a Honda Accord.

Guess the country bumpkins think it is an exotic car in my area. LOL

Z's are still leaning to being uncommon, so they do yield all kinds of attention. Only time I really set off is when I simply want distance from what I presume to be a reckless driver.

Other day Mr. Civic with his tasteless blue lights tried denying my lane change. He was a couple car lengths back and we were coming off a stop light so it's not like he was already "at speed". He knew exactly what he was trying to do.

So I get in, find a legit grandpa in my way, and casually go around. Civic is literally on my tail for no good reason through that sequence. Road was then clear and well, you know.

It's really just the econocar drivers that give me problems. Sounds snobbish but I mean the Z isn't entirely the definition of "fast" in the face of a V8 and so forth. So in other words, I don't think these people understand they're legitimately...slow. Straights and corners, even worse at braking as well. Imagine the sudden gap when you short stop someone and take off right away.

And I really emphasize econocars and family cars in general (vans and SUV's) because Miata and FR-S drivers never try anything with me. Like, they "get it".

:icon18: I get the same treatment in my none nismo base. Jealousy maybe? Who knows... Actually I started running with cameras this week and I have an audible Focus w/fart cannon rev while trying to get me race him and also a Golf did it as well. Can't a man just drive and enjoy his sports car without hassle? Probably not, haters gonna hate. I'll see if I can find that clip, I just laughed it off but can be annoying.

Wow, I don't know if it's just your neck of the woods but in my area I get nothing but respect. The Civic kids will slow down but only to give me thumbs up. I even had an M3 driver come beside me once trying to see what it was. He had a confused but impressed look on his face. He did not rev his engine or try to race. He just respectfully kept his distance.

By the way, a 370Z Nismo is as rare as a unicorn in my area.

I was hassled all the time with my previous car, Corvette C5. You would not believe all the hate that car got.

In the end, you need to drive what you like regardless of what people think. You need to learn to ignore them. Just remember that 99% of those drivers would never try that sh!t in person. They're just cowards hiding behind the veil of anonymity and perceived protection their car offers.

Id say it's the Nismos particularly 2014 with the 2 tone and big wing. I always thought id get less attention in a ferrari than that car when i drove it and im not joking. Mine was red which probably added to to the effect.

Wow you guys have had some pretty rough encounters. I usually get positive remarks about my car, at one point someone asked if it was a Porsche, but I said it was an electric car.

I sometimes do have people that like tailing me on the freeway, but I just give them a brake check and they usually back off.

The only thing I'm really worried about is parking in public places, I never street park and i park in the very front of the mall or wherever I am so there are lots of people and I can run back to my car.
