Bye Bye Miata...bought 370Z

New here. Come from a family of racers/ kit car builders. I've always been a motorcycle girl myself. Haven't raced cars in about 5 yrs. getting back into it with my new 370Z purchase. Ex never would let me race our miata....still bitter about that. Decided rather than hop it up, to buy something sexier and less plain. Tired of racing my folks ZO6 (awesome for straight, sucks for SCCA), dads cobra too....(550 hp, but no comfort and stiff controls for me). Currently building another Super 7 with my dad. Should be complete this month ( assuming he doesn't decide to fabricate some new part on the milling machine! ) Then we are on to putting the factory 5 together. I bought an LS7 for it. This one won't be sold...all mine baby! Expect we'll be working on that 2-3 yrs. Pics and albums to come... It will be obvious, but just so all you gearheads know, I know less than S**t about engines, mechanics, electrical etc... I like to race, do body work, and paint/ design stuff. Excited about making any new Z friends (any girls out there?)

There are a few girls on the forum

welcome! If you are going to track the Z, you will need to do an oil cooler first thing! brake cooling ducts and power steering cooler are also recommended upgrades.

I would love to be your future ex if I can play with your cars. I'd even let you race my Miata.

Guess that makes the decision for me on the areo kits I've been waffling on (OEM nismo s-tune/stillin)...Stillin's front end is made for cooling. They don't have a 2013 front out yet so I'll have to mod for the vertical LED's and who knows what other fit issues....patience is not one of my virtues. Ha. How much is oil cooler going to cost me and what do you rec on that?

Scubasubiker 02-14-2013 03:44 AM

LOL. Sorry but with a hat and stash like that you wouldn't even make it to date one! I do like comedians tho. :)

Are you planning on true tracking on a road coarse or SCCA Solo AutoX kind of events? The 2013 comes with a factory oil cooler (small sandwich plate) that is sufficient for autoX. I took mine out on Sunday to the first event in 90 degree weather and my oil temps never even hit 220. 200ish is what it sits at normally. Had more then enough time in between runs too cool down. Road course racing and you will definitely need atleast a 25 row.

Scubasubiker 02-14-2013 04:18 AM

both.

Mike 02-14-2013 08:30 AM

I like the Z1 kit. I have their biggest, but my car is off road use only. When it was a street car, oil temps barely ever hit 180 with it and it requires a block off plate for daily use, but it keeps the oil in the 240 range on the track, even in summer.

ajc1884 02-14-2013 11:26 AM

Scubasubiker....
that bike your sitting on looks like a Yamaha Seca II...I used to have one.
is it?

Scubasubiker 02-14-2013 09:25 PM

It's a Kawasaki 600 Ninja. Have 4 bikes right now and that's the oldest and slowest. I keep it around to teach others how to ride.

This is the loaner car i have till mine arrives. I like these. Anyone know what brand they are?

they look like these?

You can get them at the z store..here's the link

Motorsport! Lower Rear Side Scoop Kit, 09-12 370Z - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts

btw I see your from joplin Missouri...Man driving through that snow Tuesday night was terrible! Or I think that was joplin..was driving down to Texas from st. Louis.

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 05:47 AM

THX!

Nice to see someone on here from my state. When I have time I'll look for a local Z group. From a small town so probably will have to drive an hour to AK.

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 04:09 PM

Uhg!! Went to pick up my shiny new solid red 370z at the dealer after waiting FOREVER and they handed me a new stock coupe with eighteens and no sport pkg...WTF! Just cause I'm a girl, do they think I'm and idiot?! My heels are made of SS and I was ready to plant them! Give me what I ordered or prepare to see my claws!.......... Car arriving tomorrow, curbside service, with back up cam in mirror and door plate lighting...compliments of the house (((smiles widely)))

High Heels Rock!

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 04:16 PM

and sport package?

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 04:20 PM

SI! You think I'd accept anything less?! Bought this car to race, not drive miss daisy.

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 04:37 PM

haha, awesome. Just like everyone mentioned, some good pads, ss lines, and fluid, those brakes will work well (maybe a vacuum canister for ice mode). A good oil cooler and chucking the stock diff should be high on the list as well for anyone tracking the car. Update with pics :)

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 04:45 PM

exhaust

What made you choose that exhaust specifically and what others did you consider?

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 04:48 PM

It was a mid pipe exhaust and considered quiet. I wanted to run HFC's with long tube headers and this was the only way at the time. With Tanabe having the same bolting points as stock, it was an easy choice. The Tanabe helps keep rasp down and my ear drums from exploding. I have vids in my sig. Also dyno's, videos and reviews on everything I bought. Might help you down the run when/if you mod your new Z.

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 04:50 PM

:) Haven't you heard loud pipes save lives?

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 04:51 PM

haha, but do they maintain happy Wives? For bikes, definitely. Especially in Vegas, noone can drive here. But yeah, it's still deafening when I'm on it, especially in a tunnel, near walls or a walled neighborhood

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 04:56 PM

Not if...only when. Sound is important to me. That said, got 86'ed off the track in TX for too high Deci. on second run two months ago in my bro's Super7. :(

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 05:01 PM

Was a wife. NEVER AGAIN. But totally happy for you.

Back to shop talk...vacuum canister for ice mode? Tell me more about that. All you guys will figure it out, but I just like to drive and do body work/design/painting etc. NOT a gear head. Explain it like I'm a 2 yr old ha!

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 05:06 PM

With the options we have now, it's easier. M.Bonani (Mike) in Vegas runs Fast Intentions long tube headers, exhaust (18" resonators) and HFC's on the exhaust. He's well below the limits. I've yet to take mine out, but Laguna Seca is on my list of places to go and they have a terrible db limit. I think I should still be okay. There are a lot of good options. Motordyne makes a great exhaust too, might be too loud depending on where you go. It's over 104db wide open.

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 05:08 PM

I know Shamu posted pics of it. I'm definitely no expert and hoping I got the terminology right, but basically it makes ice mode a remote chance instead of a good one for people hard on the brakes.

Scubasubiker 02-15-2013 05:13 PM

ah. THX.

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 05:21 PM

Reading this might help. Has Shamu posting pics of the canister.

This one as well. There is a bit more detail at the end of the thread regarding ice mode.

Scubasubiker 02-18-2013 05:36 PM

Ss F...Will check it out. After body mod, stereo, and oil cooler, exhaust will be next.

Airwalk 02-19-2013 05:00 PM

Welcome aboard and I hope you love your car, I know I do!

Scubasubiker 02-19-2013 08:46 PM

Already do thanks! Really liked the nismo s-tune rear spoiler so put it on today. Was made for 2012 so mounting did not match up to the stock sport spoiler, but I made it happen. Body mods are first on my list. Decided on amuse rear end (way tough)! Thinking stillin or fuji front bumper and side skirts...got talked out of duraflex because its crap but also unique and my style.

Z-Girl 12 02-20-2013 05:49 PM

Welcome to the family and congrats!

Scubasubiker 02-20-2013 06:11 PM

Yay! A chica! THX. Pm me girl... PSW to the ladies lounge...
