370Z... modern day FD RX-7?

hi all,

i've been following the 370Z and am really impressed. as the owner of a super clean '94 RX-7 - i find that the 2 cars have a parallel spirit... my car even has RAYS forged wheels! what do you all think?

when i realize that i need a more 'modern' version of my RX-7, i may pursue a 2009 370Z.

for now, here are few photos of my RX-7.

I LOVE 3rd gen RX-7's. Yours looks very nice. I kind of agree with you. They both are 2 seater sports cars that looks very nice and have about the same power stock...(RX-7 has less power but weighs less so they accelerate about the same). If I was rich, I would rather have a 3rd gen RX-7 than the 370Z, but sice I am not rich and I can only afford 1 car, I chose the Z.

I almost bout a 94 rx7. Black with tan leather interoir and the stock rear wing, and 3in exhaust. I didnt because of the reliability issues however. I know they say get the upgraded gauges and silicone hoses but I didnt want to risk it. How many miles are on yours and have you had to rebuild or replace the motor yet?

I love it. They should just break out the old tooling. the FD would easily pass as a 2010 model.

WOW that is probably the mintiest FD rx7 i have ever seen

thanks guys. the FD is an enthusiasts car that is really unique in so many ways. everything about it was engineered with keeping the weight down... the seat frames are carbon fiber (for a 15 year old car - that's pretty cool). all of the 'reliability' issues have been addressed with my car (long list of Pettit gear, KOYO radiator, etc.) plus it has been upgraded with a complete 3" exhaust - but it's all tasteful... not loud... even sourced a 3" high performance catalytic mid-pipe. It has north of 340 HP at the wheels... the car weighs around 2,600#.

The car is documented (window sticker, all receipts, etc.) and has ~84K. It has original paint and interior... everything looks almost new. The red leather 'Touring' edition is supposedly 1 of 23 delivered to the US in '94.

I just realized that it sounds as if I'm writing a want ad... I'm not ready to sell it but when I do I will look to this forum first for a nice 'enthusiast owned' Z car. You all are a great community.

you got to get a Z with orange interior to try and match the cars together

i like RX-7's, Supra's, then G's & Z's

That is a nice looking RX-7. Mazda took a giant step backwards with the RX-8 IMHO.

Whatever happened to flip up headlights on cars. Are they now illegal, or just no longer in style?

Mazda has been working on a new rotary called the 16x with DI, more power, and better mpg than the current 13b in the rx-8. I wish they would hurry up with it. That 7 is legendary, but mazda doesn't seem to want to match or better it.

I have yet to feel the same way about any car as I did when I sat in and drove a RX 7. I felt like I was in the cockpit of a fighter jet.

RX 7>370z.

I heard a rumor they are bringing the RX 7 back........

^ unfortunately, too. i'm a sucker for the FC RX-7s. not the convertibles, though, that seems kind of pointless to me.

style is a part of the change - looks butt ugly with the lights up for sure...

cars are not as low in the front end anymore for modern lighting issues and more recently, due to NHSTA mandates addressing pedestrian frontal impact design. have you noticed the huge change recently in front bumper/grill/hood areas? take a look at how the MINI Cooper, Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry, etc. have evolved. You can even see it in the new 370Z and GTR. The front end is almost completely squared off to address the pedestrian vs. automobile issue. Sad...
