New owner in AZ

My name is Dan and I have been into all things cars since I was a little kid. I had a 280Z back in the early 90s. I am also an old school muscle car guy. I have a 63 nova project car too. (auto cross and drag racing) My wife is a car lover too. She drives a VW GTI.

I bought my 370Z a week ago. It is my first new car I have ever bought. Heck first time I went to a dealership to get a car.

My Z is a pearl white with the sport package with the AT. I wanted as basic as possible so I could put in the car what I want. (stereo system, NAV, etc) My wife's one stipulation was it had to be an automatic. But I am old so it works out.

Before I bought the car I ordered most of the stereo. Alpine 927hd HU, 2 JL amps, stealthbox, 6 inch component alpine speakers, cap, etc. I have only done the head untit so far.

I also have my Stillen intake and exhaust waiting to go in. (probably tomorrow) I will add the oil cooler after my first two free oil changes. I will also have the car tuned by Xactdyno in Tempe after that.

There is very few cosmetics going on. I replaced the 370 badge with a fairlady badge. (I am a poser hahaha) I ordered the hood struts from Z1 and the "fog light" set up too. It is my only daily driver so I cannot got too wild. That is what the nova is for.

I look forward to meeting some new folks. Maybe I run into some folks at the car shows.

Welcome and Congrats! :hello:

Hi

brutusvk 06-02-2014 12:06 AM

Got some work in today. Installed the "fog light" and the new stillen exhaust. Taking out the oem exhaust was harder than installing the new one. Sounds great. Tomorrow we will install the intake. Then I have to return to the real work and work for 5 days. lol

Welcome, and congrats!

What part of Phoenix (assuming Phx since you mentioned a tune in Tempe)?

brutusvk 06-02-2014 09:36 AM

NW Valley. Not too far from Arrowhead Mall.

You'll probably see me driving around then. I'm up that way constantly at my buddy's house.

I'm over by Westgate (sort of), just more towards El Mirage Rd on Olive.

pfdaxe 06-02-2014 11:38 AM

Welcome. Looks like you have a great start. I'm close to Arrowhead area also (67th ave N. of 101), so you may get a glimse of the black unicorn. I only call it that, because I drive it about one or twice a week so it's a rare sighting.

:tiphat:

brutusvk 06-02-2014 12:37 PM

I am over by westgate quite a bit. (Cabela's and Grimaldi's lol) So maybe we'll cross paths.

I live right by you pfdaxe. You ever go to the car show by Mixteca on 67th and Bell? I used to be out there with the nova all the time but it is in the middle of transformation. So it it the Z's turn.

Haboob 06-02-2014 01:07 PM

Hit up the AZ thread, there's a few more of us somewhat active on the forums over there.

Welcome and Congrat on your Z !

VRSean 06-02-2014 07:58 PM

Welcome!

brutusvk 06-02-2014 08:55 PM

Ok, first off, it was way to hot to do this today. But we did. And two fat guys are out of place working on one little car. lol But we got er done.

The car is still learning the new set up. I have only driven it a couple miles. But it seems to work well. Now, if that "new exhaust" smell and smoke would go away I would be happy. lol I forgot how much I hate that!

It should be easier doing the oil cooler now that we know how to remove the bumper.

Congrats on the Z! Welcome!

Very nice. Good color choice for AZ too. Good start on the mods as well. Congrats & welcome.

Super Werty 06-07-2014 11:02 AM

looks good but having those t-bolt clamps on the intake flipped like that would drive me nuts!

I already flipped them. We were still making sure stuff fit at that point. And that was easiest to mess with. I still need to adjust the exhaust a bit too. But it may need to go on a lift to get it just right.

productive weekend

Got some stuff done.

None of the wiring is done. I am not doing that. Having the security system/remote start, camera and amp install done at a shop. I am getting all the dyna mat done too. Then it is just a few more odds and ends and get her tuned at the dyno shop!

pfdaxe 06-08-2014 11:34 PM

Keep us posted on the tune and the shop you're using. I'm still debating on a tune ;)

brutusvk 06-09-2014 12:52 AM

Will do. I already spoke to the owner of Xactdyno in Tempe. He is an uprev tuner.

jckilla 06-09-2014 03:20 AM

Spoke with Tim @ Xactdyno a few times, going in either tomorrow or Tuesday for my tune. I'll be posting #s -

brutusvk 06-09-2014 09:51 AM

Awesome. Can't wait to see the numbers.

brutusvk 06-10-2014 01:41 PM

I ordered the oil cooler from Z1 (Thanks Jon). Going to get the stereo done, put on the new badging (the Nissan emblems are chrome and the rest are satin... that is annoying!), the exhaust lined up as perfect as possible and then get her tuned. Then I am grounded from the Z. Then it is back to the Nova for a while!

brutusvk 06-17-2014 01:33 AM

Installed the oil cooler. Also swapped out bulbs for LEDs. Was supposed to get my engine cover but I missed the delivery guy.

Only a few things left to do with the car. It is gonna suck next week not having my car. It is going to be in the stereo shop most of the week getting the rest of the system install, sound deadener and security. I will drop off the strut brace at the same time to get coated. A week or so after that, tune it and she is done. My poor Nova is getting jealous anyways.

My only project today...

brutusvk 06-23-2014 09:35 PM

Dropped the Z off at the stereo shop. I was impressed with the place. And the owner drives a turbo g35 so he is a Z fan too. It will be awesome when it is done. But I have a Versa as a rental intil then. This car sucks! Need to call The dyno shop to schedule the appointment next week. Pretty exciting stuff for me.

brutusvk 06-27-2014 06:07 PM

Stereo is all done. Dynamat all done. Got the strut tower brace back too. Tuning the car monday. I received the FairladyZ 'black pearl' emblem. Then I am just waiting for the front and rear emblems. I got the tow hook but I may have it altered a bit. It is a bit too long. I want a tight, clean look. But, the car is pretty much done. Took one month and WAY too much of my money.

Here is the brace powder coated in black chrome. Hard to photograph though.

Super Werty 06-28-2014 12:20 AM

did you remove the OEM oil cooler?

brutusvk 06-28-2014 02:06 AM

No. I talked to the folks at Z1 and they said the factory cooler stays.

brutusvk 07-25-2014 01:54 PM

After a lot of grief... I am still happier with these then stock or the flat aluminum color. The colors change as light hits them. Kinda cool.

Turns out the guy that tuned my car has done many Stillen supercharger installs. And since it fits what I am looking for best right now, I am planning to have a kit installed. Just ordered a gauge mount for the boost gauge too. Thank God my wife is understanding... we have TWO car builds. (three if you count the mods on her GTI!)

Mbreese 10-13-2014 10:12 PM

Looking good !!!
