Just traded 650rwhp 5.0 for 10' Z
I had a good learning experience with my 2013 mustang gt 5.0 / track pack / Recaro/ Paxton build. I had a full BMR suspension, short shifter, aluminum driveshaft, full 3" exhaust, Paxton 2200sl....ect. I hated the way it drove. So many sounds and clunks from all of the parts and was a pain to warm up and drive. Basically, it was fast and agile, but wasn't any fun to drive.
I test drove a pre-certified 10' 370 with 17k miles a few days ago and forgot what it was like to drive a smooth car. I parted the big stuff like the supercharger and fuel mods out and traded it in. It came with the K&N typhoon CAIs, but I know they don't really do anything. Everything else is stock as far as I can tell. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psa3f9be74.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pscd4dc84b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psd6e20886.jpg I don't think I'm going to dive into modding quite yet, because I'm loving the 8 year/100,000 mile warranty. |
 omg! That silver is hawt!!
 welcome and congrats!!! :driving::happydance: |
Wel-come to the club ... :hello:
|
Hi
|
Welcome! I think you'll enjoy the Z... let the modding begin!
|
welcome. Any plans with the Z? parts for the Z are almost twice as much then A mustang. just in case you didn't know what your getting your self into. What that your first mustang?
|
congrats..did you run the quarter in that beast? If so what times did it pull?

I had a 2011 v6 mustang with CAI, tune, and exhaust. I had a 2009 civic Si before that. |
Pretty cool 5.0 there but.... Z forever! :worship:
|
Damn, sick 5.0. Full BMR suspension... I can imagine it being annoying to drive around!

I went with steeds sport springs on my '11 for that reason. Didn't want to scrape everywhere.
|
Congrats
I love driving the Z. I went with a better set of wheels and tires with super offsets. Get looks and compliments every time out.
|
Congrats and Welcome!
|
Damn 650whp? That's almost 750 at crank. I know your Z feels slow as F$ck at full throttle. I'm sorry! But lets be real now. 650hp 5.0 is no joke!!!

No chance I would've made that swap down, unless I had money off hand to build it immediately |
I agree. That mustang is beautiful man. The Z is a great platform though, you'll enjoy it!
|
Welcome aboard! Was it hard to part with the Mustang, or was it amicable?
|
Congrats on the new ride and enjoy the Z! While I'm not a fan of Mustangs, that's sure a lot of whp. How are you adjusting?
|
welcome man :hello:!! and to piggyback on the other comments already made you had an awesome looking mustang there. Ive always been a fan of them but older body styles like the 5.0 foxbody coupes :yum:..Hope you truly enjoy the Z though and im sure the Hp difference will take some getting used to but i guess thats the give and take
|
Nicely done! I was on the fence about getting the Mustang rather than the 370z for a while as well. Welcome to the silver Z family :)
|
Soooo yeah. I would have at least gotten a sport package or Nismo...and a TT kit.
I don't think I could've traded down ~375 WHP and given up good brakes and a limited slip. Glad you're happier though! |
Here is my take. With in sight of my drive way I can see 3 houses with Mustangs, 3 with Chargers, and 2 with Cameros. In all of my community including what I can't see from my drive way I am the only one with a 370Z. I like to be different..........

Yeah, dare to be different...no matter the cost, right?
I'm sorry, a 650whp car that can turn and stop can't really be replaced by an unmodified base model 370Z. It just can't. That said, if you get to where you just loathe the car and anything else is better, I actually understand that from previous cars. Sometimes you gotta just get into something new. But the fact you're talking about not doing anything to the Z tells me that's probably not the case, and there's probably more to the story than we've heard. :P |
Every time I see a mustang next to any Z I am so freaking happy I bought my Z. Its so beautiful to look at, it looks like its doing 80 standing still and the mustang looks like a guy on roids who cant even wash his armpits his body is so ridiculously shaped and typical looking.
|
Obviously the OP took the power difference into consideration and still got rid of his Mustang. So yes, I guess a Z (base) can replace it. Everyone is different.
|
In the grand scheme of things, the Mustangs seem to stand for power, while the Z stands for more style and control.
To each his own, but style and control usually draw more attention from Male/Female crowds. Whereas Mustang or muscle cars for that matter will usually draw a guy-heavy gathering. I'm in it for the ladies. Z FTW  |

Both the Z and Mustang are about speed, style, fun. They both do it differently. |
Welcome... but man, my jaw dropped and my heart sank.

welcome. I also have a brilliant silver Z and am in san diego :)
you won't void your warranty by modding. there are laws that protect us. exhaust, intake, brakes, wheels, rear diff., audio... all of these should be fine. did you not see a Z with a sport package? |

IDK what to tell you guys. How many times do you use 650 rwhp? I used mine on the dyno and when i was datalogging.... that was about it. When i drove it around, i just kept thinking that my block would blow. I didnt have the money or time to be messing with that business. The new 5.0s are famous for the #8 cylinder going, as well as the tranny.... i just didnt want to go down that road. Not to mention that if i did a pull in 2nd gear, that would put me at about 60 mph, 3rd would be 90 mph.... so thats pretty fast for the street.
It was easy to get caught up in the numbers game, but in the end, I hated that mustang for every headache it gave me. If you road course your car, then I would advise you to get the sport packages and do all of the suspension upgrades and whatnot, but for a daily commuter? It was just too much. I would run rich with my id1000s and got about 10 mpg city..... not fun with cali gas prices. My mustang was a drama queen. I better let it warm up for a full 3 mins before I drive anywhere, or its going to buck me around and clank a lot in the process. I better also keep it out of the heat, or im going to hear tranny whine my whole trip. With the z, i didnt see the point in the sport package. Bigger brakes? I had them and all it did on the street was give me more brake dust. Bigger tires? Stock Z's dont make enough power to over power the 245's. I had 305s on the stang. Limited slip diff? How many times do you need that? I had it on the stang and would actually prefer whipping the rear end out more easily. Syncro-rev? Not my style either. I just got out of the military and needed a reliable, fun, sports car for the next 4 years of college. Im sure between here and there, I will start modding the Z. But not in the near future. |
