be carefull this is way more car then a 16yr should have so just be smart. the minute you dont respect the car it could hurt you even kill you. i have owned many sports cars with high horse power and believe me you need to take it slow an learn how the car handles. be safe and enjoy ,just be careful.

first of all, i would like to applaud everyone here for being so open to a 16 yr old getting a Z. on my350z, this kid woulda had to put a flamesuit on.
like people have said before, its not the age, its the maturity. my first car was a sports car, and I havent changed the theme since, and i have yet to be in an accident (thank God). Have fun, but be careful in the rain/snow. I can say keep it to the track, but there will be those times when some gay srt-4/evo/sti will wanna race...u shouldnt do it, but you will and its fun, just be careful. anyway, Congrats! and welcome to the community!:driving:

:icon18:Holy crap man! That was my first car! When I was 15 my Dad got me a superlight r500. that car was fantastic! i used to fly around everywhere. It was like a big go-cart. as fun as it was, it was super impractical. unfortunately, my mom said that i will get myself killed in it and sold it when i was on a polo trip. that was gay, but then i got a Z!

my first car was a pearel white 76' Buick Century with red vinyl interior. My retired neighbor gave it to me after years of shoveling her snow. It only had 20k miles on it and I got soooooooo many compliments and offers to buy it. I probbaly got 8 MPG tho. I wish I still had it but I gave it to my brother when I went to college.

You are lucky my first car was a 98 Camry. Too bad it got rear ended by a semi and totaled.
So I have one thing to say beware of semi's.^^
I would say you should go around couple thousand miles before you really see how she feels.

Ah... Traction control on my Trans Am did that to me. I started turning it off once I got the hang of my car. I tried doing a reverse 180 once and forgot to turn off TCS, and as soon as I turned the wheel, the car straightened out and wouldn't let me do the 180. LOL

You are extremely lucky to be afforded such an opportunity at such a young age.
Remember that any RWD vehicle is going to handle differently than one that is FWD or AWD.

Take it slow and easy. This car has a lot of power and little weight for a stock vehicle, but this
may be a wonderful experience for you to have a high powered RWD vehicle to start out on.

This 370Z shows itself off, so you don't need to show off for it.

I many times in the past have been frustrated with a slow driver in front of me, and in my
frustration when I had an opportunity to pass, I put the pedal to the floor. In a fwd car this is
easy enough(though not smart), but in a RWD vehicle with usable power, you can easily lose control.
Fishtailing can be scary if done unintentionally, and can lead to a major collision.

I agree with earlier posters that suggested taking a track safety course. Driving schools are lots of
fun and will provide you with knowledge and experience that will last you all the years you are on the road.

I always think of people driving the same model as me, as another spokesperson for that model, and when
I see another driver do something irresponsible and dangerous, I always see it as reflecting poorly on me.

So be safe, keep your car safe, and don't let anyone have a reason to think that just because a person is
young that they have to be a bad driver.

Anyways, some advice to you...
1. Don't let your friends drive no matter what. Don't mess up your car and your friendship.
2. Stable throttle control especially in the rain.
3. Stay away from inner left lanes when raining to avoid hydroplaning
4. Don't accelerate through turns. Remember, we're RWD!
5. Always try to find the biggest parking lot available. I hate it when careless people place dings and scratches on my door.

- and I would add... Never accelerate hard when leaving a roundabout*, especially a small one, unless you like seeing your ar$e in a wall.

Yes, you're absolutely right - VDC off is the way to go - but we are trying to be old and sensible ...and remember all those posters and their pics of overturned cars and their pleas of, "I have no idea how it happened - there must have been oil/diesel/ice/a dog/slipperiness of some kind/a herd of slugs/zombie slime ..on the road".

The ideal combination, imo, is VDC off + careful. But do you need to build up to it, maybe?

You'll be in for a disappointment if you decide to have a run in with any cam-swapped LSX-based car, then heh...

$1000 to have a 400+ WHP F-body/almost 500 WHP C6 Corvette is no joke. And the mere fact you can get a low-miles Z51 Corvette used for the same price as a new 370Z is somewhat sobering since it outperforms it in just about every manner in stock form...

But, hey, I'm that guy selling his stupid fast, loud, obnoxious F-body and getting a 370Z so I can track the ever-living **** out of it...why not get a C6 you ask? Meh, want to try something different. Nothing more, really.
