If they were in fact doing 45 in a 15 technically speed would still be the main contributing factor in the accident considering that is 3 times the posted speed limit. None the less he was a major factor in my passion for cars.. RIP to Paul and his friend Roger, gone way to soon way too young.

being a carrera gt did not help the situation, body build on carbon fiber, having mid engine and gas tank in front, they probably would have survived if it was not that kind of car or has not caught on fire, but who knows..

I am thinking he took the corner too fast probably 70-80 miles and lost the corner( gt are very light front end) skid and hit the curb and the light pole ..

CGT doesn't have tank in front it's located behind passenger area? It's likely mid mounted tank is what caused fire as that's where car impacted.

Listened to an interview with a guy that was there. (Forget his name) The damage to the trees and light post indicated a high speed impact that he felt would have killed them on impact. Looking at the damage, I'd agree. They most likely were dead or unconscious before the car blew up and burned them to char. He also said investigation showed power steering fluid on the ground before the impact spot. Leading them to believe it was car failure that caused the accident. The skid marks leading up to the first tree were straight showing an inability to correct the car if it was out of control. They said had they been trying to regain control of the car, there would have been a more curvy skid mark left behind. So I'm guessing they impacted head on or at an angle sliding straight trying to go into a corner or coming out of one?

Just crazy this happened. Really opens your eyes to how quickly things can change and one misstep or variable can dramatically change things. Really sad. His GF and daughter were at the benefit when this happened.

Well blaming a design flaw or failure of an OEM component in the Porsche is a big step, I'm betting Porsche will be all over that and will not take that statement lying down. The alleged power steering hose failure will be hard to prove as I'm guessing it melted away. Plus for insurance purposes and wrongful death law suits, its easier to blame the car itself than the driver who made an error. I hate to say this but the Walker family could file such a wrongful suit and recover damages.

Yeah I don't suspect it was mechanical failure. Even if it was blown power steering hose isn't unrecoverable if you are going close to speed limit. It was drivers fault for speeding on a city street where hard stuff (poles and trees) , cars, unpredictable road surfaces etc exist. Streets are not race tracks. And people learn this hard lesson too quickly all the time everyday with loss of their lives and others who they take with them.

This isn't any more or less tragic than other fatal street racing crashes. We can grieve for families and close friends and offer condolences but bottom line the deaths in this case were due to criminal street racing by driver of the car. Many People truly don't respect physics and what can happen on public roads when they push a car to its limits.

This focus on mechanical issue glosses over fact that mr rodas was putting all around him in danger when he decided to speed.on this public street. When you hit solid stuff fast cars and people don't fair well. Gas tanks rupture fires start, cars crumple like tin foil, people die, etc when you hit hard stuff.
