I'm in Ohio for the night, so that's why i was a no show

JacksonZ33 08-13-2012 10:51 AM

It was actually one of the biggest turnouts i've ever seen. Granted for some reason i'd say 30% were just spectator/daily cars.

I saw some people couldn't find a place to park so immediately turned around and left. KC trends really doesn't have enough parking. everyone ends up so spread out on busy nights.

(jackson dreams potential cars and coffee)

ya i saw that. not fare to call that cc. thats 8 friends that got together.

imo opinion CC needs to welcome young people (like FF crowd,) older guys (hot rodders,) rich peeps (exotics) and even bystanders that just saw it when they drove by.

the fact that no one knew about it is horrible. (elitist-nazi car club)

mcconned 08-14-2012 12:51 PM

Yes, this is not a formal "Cars & Coffee". As Jackson said it's a bunch of friends who get together informally to hang out and go on drives. Angel has posted pictures of this for a long time. Chad is a new "member" to this group since he bought his Maseratti.

.... but really....

I agree with Jackson. :hello:

I saw we start getting together and inviting as many people as possible.

Slowly spread the word and hopefully the crowd will grow.

Have to start somewhere right?

JacksonZ33 08-14-2012 03:48 PM

:icon17: i make myself laugh sometimes.

i've thought about this a lil.... let me share

In my opinion it's all about location, location, location. kc is very spread out so which side of the city, down to the parking lot, are crucial

and crowd. all people young, old, rich or poor, AS LONG AS YOUR RESPECTIVE, should be welcome. i feel like the FF crowd isnt for some people. Just because its you guys i'll say this, there needs be less punk kids & more adults (coming from a punk kid hehe). but I think the nature of early morning car show will level that ratio a lil

my fear, if you start small, people wont think it's cool when they see pics and will forever be a uphill climb.

gotta land it on the first try really. mass promote. posters in auto parts stores, invite all auto&bike clubs within kc, spread word on interwebz like it was end of world. heck bring in a news crew/newspaper to first one to keep it self-sustaining.

think of it like this, if only handful of people showed up to the first couple FF's then i dont think it would have never got off the ground.

mcconned 08-15-2012 07:15 AM

I checked out some of the Cars & Coffee and they seem to happened at Starbucks. Maybe you should start there...Find a Starbucks to sponsor this.

Re. location I recommend south Johnson County. Lot's of exotic cars there which accounts for their attendance at FF.

There is a Starbucks on the north side of 135th east of Metcalf.....across the street from the Winsteads by Church of the Resurrection.

Again, the ones I've checked into are morning events starting about 8 am to about 10:30 am. That way they won't disrupt the nearby businesses and can even draw customers.

edub370 08-15-2012 08:21 AM

i say we give it a shot. i agree that if its gonna be done, it has to be done right on the first try.

so how do we get tha ball rolling on this?

i think johnson county is a given. but what forums do we need to post on/what forums do we need to stay away from? open to all?

totally agree with joco. and time frame and i do like the idea of this lot, altho it isn't very "attractive location" if ya know what i mean. A lil worried that the city of overland park wont like us either. (chad's experience with them so far)

as soon as we get into permits and such its gunna get expensive. then we gotta bring in sponsors.:shakes head:

im a lil impartial to a location more inner city, but have yet to find ideal location.
plaza/pv/leawood. Town center has a huge lot, old folks home in prairie village hosts car shows all the time, 100 yards to starbucks. And trust me there are plenty of exotics there too.

but with the 135th location we'd at least know that people are willing to drive there (as seen from FF's)

im totally up for discussion on location. this crucial aspect

the balls are rolling now, im committed to see it through. i'll need help tho

first off gotta get permission from the property manager for the lot.

as far as getting word out. we gotta grab more than just internet, but that is still a given.

i'd start by inviting all the car clubs & internet clubs. they have all the enthusiasts, with mailing lists, and they know how to assemble for meets. help set a standards for behavior and keep it classy

and while I do hate on others choices sometimes, this should be open to everyone, like I said before, as long as their respectful.

i really do want an event that both guys young and old feel comfortable at. imports and hot rods alike.

i'll volunteer to build a website, and design/print/distribute posters to make it look professional.

that kinda gets to the point is this just an informal morning meet, or can we make this bigger than FF?

some pictures to level out all this rambling...........

Jackson, that particular location is in Leawood which may make a difference, maybe not.

As I mentioned before, the C&C I've checked out have been at Starbucks. Maybe they are the unofficial sponsors and could offer you guidance, contact the landlord, etc. Maybe they have a "Cars & Coffees for Dummies" book. :D

JacksonZ33 08-15-2012 12:09 PM

im really not as concerned with it being next to a starbucks, as the location being easy to find, tell someone about, or simply see just driving by. oh and getting free access to.

think the original in cali is at mazda headquarters, not at any coffee shop at all.

if you really had a crowd, a food truck could easily be requested. (found this guy in 30 sec. CoffeeCakeKC LLC )

i really do have a 100 ideas for locations, but find problems with all.

I totally think were capable of pulling off a C&C on our own. and better than other states too.

edit.....

not opposed to starbucks either, they can offer acces to their lot, and coffee fro guests.
just all in weird spots

JacksonZ33 08-15-2012 02:06 PM

idk after thinknig about it starbucks kinda way to go. think about bathroom and such with a bunch of guys drinking coffee

i came up with this one at lunch......

abandoned lot across from ward parkway mall. its huge!!!!! and best of all there's never ever in cars there. kinda not most glamourous side of town tho. altho it is still leawood.

tunnel under stateline to the starbucks ward parkway map

I went to a car show at that location last year. That location is virtually hidden from State Line. That show had almost zero visibility. Just sayin'......
