Day 10
Desert Hot Springs, a Ghost town and Las Vegas

Today started out in Palm Spring Nissan. Big props to Alex and Chris who swapped the Esther, brake fluid, and a bunch of filters. Alex also fixed a squeak i was hearing with either the shocks or the swaybars.. anyhow nice job.

I drove out through the desert through a small town called Barstow and to a little old mining town where i panned for a couple ounces of silver.

then from there - across more desert with a ton of other people into Las Vegas...

Day 11
Hoover Dam and Historic Route 66

I left the lights behind and headed to the Hoover Dam. I got a private tour from the Deputy Area Manager of the Dept of Interior - very special. got to go into all kinds of restricted areas. That place is pretty awesome.

After a couple hours there - i proceeded to Kingman, AZ where there is a pretty big historic 66 look and feel. I decided to drive on historic 66 for about 50 miles to the next town instead of using the main highway. I made much better time on this road as there was very very little traffic. but disappointingly, there was virtually nothing along that road. when you finally do get to the next gas station, it was filled with route 66 trinkets.

Finally made it to Williams AZ before getting tired - there is snow on the ground here... not used to that :)

eastwest2300 02-26-2013 07:47 PM

where are the pics at duuuuude.. come on man, you earned this one... damn!

Nice to get all the way down the dam, I've never gotten that privilege even though I've been there lot of times before 911

eastwest2300 02-26-2013 09:25 PM

I'd like to see the Hoover dam.

djpathfinder 02-26-2013 11:49 PM

The Hoover Dam tour was awesome...and you get to see where they kept NBE1 (aka Megatron)...ok, maybe not. LOL! Anyway, HD is a must see.

eastwest2300 02-27-2013 09:21 AM

damn dude... this is going on the bucket list.. hahaha

RandyD 02-27-2013 08:46 PM

Day 12
The Grand Canyon, a meteor, and some stony trees.

The day started with a frozen 17 degrees in the mountain town of Williams AZ - from there it is a pretty 45 minute drive north to the Grand Canyon park. $25 gets you in, and then you get to explore the beauty.

I hiked a bit on the rim trail - before making my way on a certain bucket list road - route 64 East. This road is awesome - both for curves, and for scenery. It has some cool wildlife signs like a mountain lion next 10 miles...

after that, i had a high speed run down to rt 40 and then over to the Meteor Crater - $16 bucks here - nice to see but nothing compared to the canyon.

finally - i made it through the petrified forest, and painted desert before stopping in Gallup NM.

wowwwww sick azz pictures, excellent job Mr. Greyhound.

I really hope you've made a point to check out the night sky while out in the middle of nowhere AZ! Seeing the milky way in person in a really good dark sky is awe inspiring. It's a true shame the majority of the human population will never get to experience this nowadays.

eastwest2300 02-28-2013 07:26 AM

I got to see it when I was in the military doing rotations at Ft. Irwin (in the desert out in s. california). Its pretty cool.

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 07:30 AM

Sick. I remember going to see the crater when I was a kid.

RandyD 03-03-2013 07:52 AM

That was one thing I noticed my first time on a ship at sea beyond the coast. With no man-made lights to interfere you can see the Milky Way just like you were looking at it in the science books from school. Awe inspiring! Welcome home Randy!

RandyD 03-03-2013 08:58 PM

now that I'm home, I have a good internet connection again.. I'll upload some vids..
