This sounds like an awesome trip.. would you eat / drink in the Z?

We are planning on doing a similar trip in the summer prolly 2 CARs or a RV but not in the Z..

I did the I-40 trip from NM to PA a couple of times when I was stationed out there. Never did any sightseeing along the way so I can't offer much advice. Will say this, watch yer cornhole crossing TN. They seemed to have more highway patrol than anywhere else I've been. Also, in AZ anything 11 and over in the construction zone will get you impounded (and they are always working on I-40). Flagstaff is nice but a short run and too many hippies.

eastwest2300 01-02-2013 12:07 PM

Dude, AZ is nasty.. the police are REAL quick to pull a shotgun on you..

RandyD 01-02-2013 04:58 PM

updated idea...

I'm now planning on seeing the Blue Man Group while in Vegas..
also, ordered my radar detector :driving:

The Petrified Forest. and Painted Dessert is near the Grand Canyon, wouldn't be a bad side trip in AZ. I made the trip from Macon, GA to Phoenix, AZ in a Civic Si and it wasn't too bad. Texas did seem to take a while to get across, but the thunderstorm probably slowed me down some. Up near the Grand Canyon is Rte. 66 so you can hit two icons at the same time. I made a similar trip in 1972 in my 240Z from San Francisco to Pittsburgh on the northern route, and returned the southern route. It was an interesting trip.

anyone have any special places to visit sorta on the way? :)
edit: updated route to hit Vegas on the way out... (can't put too many destinations on google map)

Ok wow. One I'm upset you're not dropping me off in LA. With all the great places you are heading once you get to LA, grab a Poor Boy sandwich!

Coon-azz 01-03-2013 05:26 PM

I'd pack a pistol for such a long trip, but thats just me.

MMC Racing 01-03-2013 05:36 PM

That is a lot of driving in barren, boring landscape. Too bad you can't postpone to do the northern route.

2010ZilverZ 01-03-2013 10:35 PM

Drop by the Infantry Museum at Ft.Benning ...

Well worth the trip

supunna_picta 01-03-2013 11:13 PM

Too bad you aren't returning a little further north, I could recommend beautiful country/parks in Utah and excellent mountain roads in Colorado.

Beale Street in Memphis would be a great lunch/dinner stop - cool music scene with tons of bars
Albuquerque you'll want to hit old town for lunch/dinner/quick tour and the Petroglyph National Mnmt for a short hike.
The Biosphere II in Tucson was entertaining as well.

Most of your trip you will be wishing we had German Autobahn rules (no speed limits where it makes sense)...

RandyD 02-10-2013 08:58 AM

:driving: OK - new road for me - i am now going to shoot a little south after Austin to ride on the Twisted Sisters...

eastwest2300 02-10-2013 01:04 PM

haaaa you're crazy...

If you update to the forum along the way, we can all share in the adventure! Should be a fun trip. My old man used to spend a lot of time exploring the country in his later years. He was a big old west buff so his road trips were in the Southwest (Arizona/New Mexico/Texas) and up North to see the Battle of the Little Bighorn monument, etc. Tons of great experiences he had. Have a great trip!

It's not that I hate Macs hardware. Quite the opposite, actuality.

But their business practices and pricing are complete bulls*it. Give people old hardware for outrageous prices?! Why not!

No no, I'll stick to building my own systems, thank you. lol

hahaha, I can agree with that, I personally hate how they upgrade their stuff 2 to 3 times a year, but its how they do it. Im still making money nonetheless.

Hey, it happens, as long as the company is innovative, and theres a demand, they'll always be profitable.

Maybe because they are advertising such innovative features in their phone, such as a second microphone that kills off background noise during phone calls on the iPhone.

Oh, wait, almost every single phone has had that for YEARS now.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread Randy. I demand daily pictar/video updates.

Ever play a game called Lemmings? :-/

People are suckers for buying things that make them look cool, but they have no idea how to use it.

Day 0
Packing the car...

2 weeks of clothes and supplies pretty much fills up the roadster.
Got a full tank of gas, new tires, an oil change - tightened the whitelines on stiffest, got a couple books on disc, and resprayed the plasti-dip on the fangs for extra chip protection...

Today i made Google Maps of each days hopeful route... I'll post the actual route i managed hopefully when i stop at night.

no guarantees that each place will have internet connectivity though :) like Deals Gap for one.

eastwest2300 02-15-2013 04:21 PM

good look, and safe travels...

b1adesofcha0s 02-15-2013 04:24 PM

Good luck and have fun Randy!

MightyBobo 02-15-2013 05:20 PM

Good luck Randy, I'll make sure your daughters are ok!
