I saw this last year when checking in at the Lodge. Crazy, I tell you!!! The driver said that it held up pretty well. I have mine wrapped with the Clear Bra which really helped last year. It didn't help the windshield when I was behind the gravel truck in WV! Rocks were flying everywhere, so I had to do about 100 to get away from this idiot. Fortunately, the window only suffered a very small nick which didn't require any fix. To those who are going to use painters tape; make sure not to wrap the windows!!!

speedfreek 02-06-2013 02:31 PM

Just tape the whole car and roll in Monterrey Blue for the day.

i plan on doing at least half my hood, half fenders, possibly mirrors, and possibly fender flare corners (rockers) where rocks may kick out.

eastwest2300 02-06-2013 02:54 PM

Dude, you guys are really serious about this tape thing.

speedfreek 02-06-2013 02:55 PM

Well I am attending this year so since I do not own any painters tape at the moment I may opt for the green stuff. But you can dare to be different and mix 'n' match. Throw in some performance stickers on top for good measure though. Or at least some scratch 'n' sniff stickers.

My advice to you and any other first timers...

When driving the Dragon, the Hellbender, and/or the Cherohala Skyway for the first time...

Be patient and take your time. Learn those roads first before pushing anything. They have the reputation for being dangerous for a reason. The folks who have been there for several years running may attempt to drive it faster, but that's because they have an expectation of what's around every corner. And even then, you never fully KNOW what's around that next blind corner. Could be a semi or another motorist crossing the center line. Always be aware. I'm sure other Zdayz vets can attest to this.

Also, and this is my personal opinion, be courteous to the locals on the roads. Don't tailgate, don't be rude at shops and gas stops. Don't flip people off. Don't instigate things with bikers. Probably goes without saying, but the less negative attention we draw to the event, the better.

What kind of person are you saying I am? Lol

I understand that the dragon is not to be messed with until I know it. I'm just tryin to see some cars, drive the roads, see friends, meet new ones, drink so alcohol, and have a great time

Lol I know just making a joke

Mr&Mrs 02-16-2013 06:26 AM

We may not be able to make it now, our new house may be closing the week of Zdayz. Im not canceling yet though because it is just an estimate. A buyer backed out of the contract of the house we were going to build so our 6 month wait is now 3.

FPenvy 02-18-2013 02:12 PM

hey i got a question for you veterans in here. do you have to pay the balance of your cabin/room off prior to going down or when you arrive? i can easily do either i just never thought to ask when i made my reservation lol

jpritche 02-18-2013 02:23 PM

I have driven the dragon numerous times(in the teens), the skyway a few times, but I actually have never driven the hellbender. :(

daisuke149 02-18-2013 02:26 PM

daisuke149 02-18-2013 02:26 PM

I'll be at Carlisle. I'd rather be at this but I was already committed by my club.

when you check out, just like any other hotel. give them the card when you arrive and settle when you leave.

Ok. I probably will pay off my balance in cash when I get there and let them hold the credit card for incidentals.

eastwest2300 02-19-2013 08:34 AM

Hey my family is staying a week in a cabin out in Tennessee in April, I may get to hit the dragon on my way out there and on my way back, depending on where this resort area is.

That's some great advice. I was a virgin last year, and there were a few times that I let others get the best of me. I tried to "push" the Z at a pace that I was not the most confident with, so my survival instincts kicked in and I slowed to a more comfortable driving mindset :driving:. All I know is that the car has greater capabilities than I do. Only drive to your abilities and everything will be fine. When someone is behind you that seems anxious to "open it up", try to get out of their way and let them pass. Like the OP said, "they have a reputation of being dangerous for a reason."
