GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Anne Arundel County police say three adults and one child were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles in Glen Burnie.

Police say it happened Sunday afternoon on Marley Neck Road near Freeman Shores Road.

Investigators have now released the names of the victims in the crash. Police say 30-year-old driver Joseph Allen Oliver Jr. of Glen Burnie was killed, along with his passenger 18-year-old Crystal Jean Benton of Laurel. In the second vehicle, 21-year-old Brittney Marie Ziegler of Pasadena died. She was driving with 3-year-old Lilly Renee Gross, who also was killed.

A preliminary investigation reveals Oliver tried to pass traffic in a no-passing zone. That’s when his vehicle struck Ziegler’s car head-on.

Four people, including a 3-year-old girl, were killed in a head-on collision Sunday in Glen Burnie after the driver of one car attempted to pass others in a no-passing zone, Anne Arundel County police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that Joseph Allen Olliver Jr., 30, of Glen Burnie attempted to pass traffic across the double yellow line in his 2009 Mazda on Marley Neck Boulevard near Freeman Shores Road at 1:35 p.m.

Traveling northbound in the southbound lane, the Mazda struck a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Brittney Marie Ziegler, 21, of Pasadena. Also in the car was Lilly Renee Gross, 3, of Glen Burnie, police said. Both were killed by the impact.

Olliver and a passenger in his car, Crystal Jean Benton, 18, of Laurel, also died in the wreck.

The impact caused the Pontiac to overturn and pushed it back 75 feet before coming to rest on the east side of the road.

The Mazda continued traveling northbound for another 100 feet before the car broke apart and came to rest in the southbound lane, police said.

Zeigler was ejected from the car after it broke apart. The car’s engine came to rest in a wooded area 60 feet west of the roadway, police said.

Excessive speed by Olliver’s Mazda appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, police said.

As of this morning, it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.

I talked to that viper guy's mom for a while. She drove her 350z to the show and wanted to check out the 370. Nice folks :/

Probably in poor taste but at least he died happy.

Woot it wasn't the viper guy. Cool.

When I left out, I got into line with 2 Ferrari's, 1 Lambo, 3 BMW's and a STI. All of them going over 90mph on 95.

Crazy!

dmhenderson 11-19-2012 10:47 AM

Yeah I left with a Viper, a tricked out Audi A8 and a chevy cobolt trying valiantly to keep up with us.

People were NOT behaving coming in and out of that meet. Really surprised the car show wasn't mentioned. Might be because they paid for police to be there and the accident still wasn't prevented.

There's a slight chance it could have been unrelated to the meet. It happened at 1:35 pm so he either left really early or got there late for the meet.

I was with a 350, gs350, engine swapped civic, and 2 M5's on my way out and we had some fun on 97. I think there might have been some Lamborghinis and Ferraris who left after us but took a different exit from 100.

I saw an aventador and a gallardo pull in with a ferrari and a STI but those were the only exotics I saw (other than the GT-Rs if you count those)

When the hell did an Aventador get there and how did I not see it?????

I saw like 6 Gallardos there, around 4-5 Ferraris, and the McLaren.

It came in late and was in the side lot with me.
