Cold-weather, long-range shooting...

So... Where do we stand on this? Months ago you MD guys were talking about your outdoor ranges and setting up some shooting day...

eastwest2300 01-24-2012 11:28 AM

I own nothing but am interested in this. I've been shooting once so far and loved it. Definitely willing to chip in for ammo costs!

I very much want to go shooting with you guys!

m4a1mustang 01-24-2012 07:51 PM

I want to go shooting with you guys too but only if it's so damn cold outside I am miserable and feel like I'm going to die.

Doesn't matter. As angry as you are, sending metal down range into paper targets can release much of that.

Doing that while making fun of me... That's just a bonus.

huh, i was thinking quite the opposite... no reason for it to be cold.

outdoors + winter = cold

b1adesofcha0s 01-24-2012 09:32 PM

Why not pick a day when it will be unusually warm outside, like today was?

Because shooting in the cold is hella fun. Especially if its snowing.

O rly? I generally hate being cold. I'll take a 100* temps over a below freezing temps any day.

No way. I'd like it to be like 12 degrees and snowing when we shoot.

VaGntlmn 01-29-2012 10:25 AM

can I go?
But I'd really prefer to go when it's warm; like above 50, sunny, and not too much wind?

m4a1mustang 01-29-2012 11:18 AM

Anyone can go. At this rate it will be 100 degrees out before we decide on anything

VaGntlmn 01-29-2012 02:30 PM

agreed, so let's see what we can do to move this along.
1) What's your definition of "Long Range"? 50yds, 100yds? 200yds?
2) Where can we go to do that?? Va, Md, or DC?

crap, I guess I should have added my answers
1) 100yds+, better if 150 or 200. I don't know of anyplace longer than 2.
2) either Va or Md. Transportation issues across state lines? Clark Brother in Warrenton, Va (30 mins from Ffx) is 100yds. Hoyt Hollow in Va has 150yds, but they are a trek.
Anybody else?

m4a1mustang 01-29-2012 02:34 PM

200+

Trooper/Kirkster said there were places in MD to go... so I made this thread to motivate them.

VaGntlmn 01-29-2012 03:58 PM

Trooper? Kirkster? What do you know?
"I" see 2 places
1) Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore - Looks like a members only thing, and
2) Delmarva Sporting Clays - which is on the other side of the Bay Bridge.
Other places?
And I'm going to have to do some warmups before I go for 200 :-)

I agree...

eastwest2300 01-29-2012 10:43 PM

I personally dont care about the distance of a range, I just wanna shoot my new AR15 and shotgun..

I think Delmarva goes out to 400 yards... might only be 300...

Barney makes everyone feel like a super shooter at that range...

AGC is members only...

And there is a place up near trooper that is 200????

Ft. Meade is members only also and they go out to 600....

eastwest2300 01-29-2012 10:49 PM

Kirkster, you dont own any land where we can go let off some rounds??

I'm not really, but I went shooting with Steve once and it was pretty fun. Would still be cool to see them though.
