Good 'ole floating caliper. The 5.0 uses those in the rear. Royal PITA to change pads because you have to use a special compressor tool that spins the piston as it compresses so you can fit the new pads.

You can thank Ford and Mazda, among other manufacturers, for that ********...

Boy you guys are really serious about this track stuff..

m4a1mustang 04-14-2012 09:45 PM

Anyone have any experience with the Corbeau FX1 line of seats? I am thinking about buying either one or a pair for the 5.0 as a temporary seat until the leather Recaros are available on the aftermarket (and I am willing to dish out $3k for them).

You aren't alone. And that's fine.

But I will say, do it once, and you'd likely be addicted.

You squeal pretty loud.

Oh, BRAKES

Why do you think I invite my friends to come w/ me whenever I go, just so they can get ride-alongs with other drivers? lol

Instructors, if they have time/space, are more than happy to take people out for a spin...

Last time I went, I got my Mustang-headed friend a ride in this:

eastwest2300 04-15-2012 09:37 AM

That's mostly what I enjoy.

But I want to go to an HPDE, just so I can do crazy stuff like go 140 or oversteer on the edge of losing it, since I can't do that on the street in good conscience.

You're actually in the majority of car owners and that isn't a bad thing.

Agree. People should enjoy their vehicles however they like.

He needs proper summer tires to mount on said wheels and after market lugs before he can think of putting on the wheels....

And before he even does that he should install the Swifts... :stirthepot::bowrofl:

Looks like it will cost me a total of $2k to get my car track ready. Here's a breakdown of the costs:

Oil Cooler (Modshack DIY): $300
Carbotech XP8 Brake Pads: $330
Motul RBF 600 Brake Fluid: $40
RE-11 Tires 245/45/18 F and 275/40/18 R: $1350 shipped/mounted/balanced

Total: $2120

I hope that helps anyone else with a base Z who is interested in tracking their car. Though it would be only be like ~$650 if you already have some summer tires.

Will start buying this stuff once I start my new job after graduation.

damn dude, good luck bro... let me just sit in the passenger seat, just so I can see how the experience is, and if I truly wanna invest that kinda money into my Z.

Sorry, my passenger seat will be occupied by the instructor. You'll have to find someone far more experienced than me for that. You should come Autocrossing with me next time I go, I think you'll like it. It's only like $40 and is much less intense than driving on a road course.

That sounds cool. I might be down for that.

He cant - only an instructor/advanced students will be able to give a ride-along, likely. So if he lets the instructor borrow his car, that might happen :-p

I want to let the instructor drive my car for a bit, with me in the passenger seat, just to see what my car is capable of.
